MasterChef Australia star announces huge career move after shock elimination

Daily Mail29-05-2025

MasterChef Australia contestant Rue Mupedzi is setting herself up for a huge career in the culinary world after her shock elimination from the Back to Win season on Tuesday.
Instead of hanging up her apron for good, the 29-year-old dental hygienist is planning on becoming a pastry chef.
Rue, who is known as the 'dessert queen' by fans, announced she plans to head to Europe to pursue her dream as soon as possible.
'My vision board is to go to France and gain work experience in the pastry world for six months to a year, as well as explore Europe,' she said in a new interview with Yahoo Lifestyle on Wednesday.
The WA-based kitchen star said her long-term plans included opening her own pastry shop.

Elsewhere, Rue opened up about her return to MasterChef after her headline making appearance on the show in 2023.
'I still wanted to work really hard and do well, but the most important thing to me was to have a good time,' she said.
'Coming back was like riding a bike. It felt like I never left! I integrated back into the kitchen so quickly.'
Rue scored a major win on her first go on the hit cooking competition, when she won one of the biggest prizes the contest has seen.
The Zimbabwe-born cook was left speechless when she came first in an immunity challenge after judges fell in love with her sweet and spicy BBQ sauce recipe, BarbeRue.
Not only was she free from elimination that week, she won the life-changing prize of having her sauce produced, packaged and sold in all Coles stores across Australia for a limited time.
Rue suffered the heartache of a second MasterChef Australia elimination this week after a tricky pudding failed to impress the judges.
Rue, Tim, Audra and Sarah were tasked with remaking Variations of Sourdough and Strawberry with Elderflower and Balsamic dessert from O.MY restaurant's Blayne Bertoncello.
The dish included a strawberry sorbet which sat atop a sourdough-infused crème pâtissière, a strawberry gum emulsion, macerated strawberries, sourdough tuilles and fried elderflower crisps - all finished off with a balsamic gel.
As Rue, Audra, and Tim all struggled with their emulsion, which split and was too runny when compared to Blayne's, the temperatures began to soar in the kitchen.
In the end, it was the dessert queen herself who was sent home over her grainy crème pâtissière.
In tears, Rue told the judges that it had been an honour cooking for them and being on the show for a second time around.
'Just being called back among such amazing chefs made me realise I'm also part of the great people,' she shared.
Jean-Christophe Novelli sang high praises of the contestant and her presence on the show.
'You are unique, you've got the most amazing spirit and, for me, I believe you are a ray of sunshine in any kitchen,' he told Rue in a heartfelt speech.
Speaking of her final cook with 10Play, Season 15's Rue was left disappointed after being eliminated in a challenge she considered to be her bread and butter.
'I really felt like this was a cook that I was supposed to shine in, and I didn't,' Rue said.
'I had done all these elements over a thousand times, and somehow that didn't show. You couldn't see that on the plate.'

Would you wear this to a wedding? Bethenny Frankel admits she broke golden rule at BFF's nuptials

Bethenny Frankel has admitted to breaking a cardinal rule of wedding day fashion. The RHONY alum 'just realized' she wore white to her best friend's wedding 30 years ago. A mortified Frankel said her memory was jogged thanks to the controversy surrounding Kylie Jenner, who attended Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos ' wedding in a silver and blue dress that looked white in certain lighting. Bethenny admitted she was unaware of the rule at the time she purchased the dress, as she was scrambling to find an outfit after losing her luggage. Fortunately, her friend was clearly no upset by Bethenny's unfortunate fashion faux pas, and even stood up for her friend in the comments section. 'As the bride, I must add that Bethenny's luggage never arrived, so she had to hunt for a black tie outfit the day of the wedding (in Marbella, no less, which had very few fashion stores at the time). Needless to say in true B 'fashion' she managed to find the most iconic dress and made quite an indelible impression on many men that evening... I was just happy she didn't show up naked!!! :-))'

BREAKING NEWS Channel Nine confirms veteran will make a sensational return to TV after quitting radio gig

Channel Nine has confirmed Deborah Knight will be stepping away from her role on 2GB's Money News and returning to a full-time television role at the network. The seasoned journalist is set to take on the role of presenter for the national 9News Morning bulletin at 11:30am each weekday from July 21. The 52-year-old will also present 9News Afternoon each weekday in Sydney and will continue to host A Current Affair on Saturday night. 'I'm incredibly excited to be stepping back into a full-time television role with 9News and Current Affairs,' Deb said. 'It's a fantastic opportunity to be part of the daily news cycle and connect with viewers during these important bulletins. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in radio, particularly hosting Money News, and I'm grateful for the wonderful listeners who tuned in. I'm also very pleased to continue hosting A Current Affair on Saturday nights.' Deb's final show on 2GB will be on Thursday, with a new host set to be announced in the coming weeks. National Content Manager of Nine Radio Greg Byrnes acknowledged her contribution to radio. 'Deb has been an integral part of the 2GB on-air team since 2020, but her ties to talk radio stretch back much further,' he said. 'Nationally, the Money News program with Deb as host, has recorded some of its best ratings on record and she finishes up as No. 1 overall in Sydney. We'll miss Deb on and off the air but as she's remaining in the Nine family she'll never be too far away.' Deb's exit from 2GB will leave the Sydney station without any female presenters during the weekday daytime lineup. She first joined 2GB's afternoon program in 2020, reportedly on a $600,000 salary, before being moved off the role in late 2023 due to disappointing ratings. At the time, the broadcaster was said to be 'shattered' by the decision. Despite the shake-up, Knight quickly bounced back, taking over Money News in November 2023 in a revamped 7pm-8pm slot. And it didn't take long for her to prove the doubters wrong. Knight helped drive Money News to a 13.3 per cent share in the latest ratings survey -ranking her number one in the country for the timeslot, and more than doubling the show's audience in Queensland, where it's also broadcast on Brisbane's 4BC. The program also recorded a 0.6 point increase in the latest survey, contributing to 2GB's strongest ratings result of the year.

John Farnham's son Rob pays moving tribute to his father on his 76th birthday following cancer scare

John Farnham 's son Robert has shared a sweet tribute to the Aussie music icon to mark his 76th birthday on Tuesday. The actor, 45, posted a photo to Instagram of his iconic father alongside a sweet message. 'Massive happy birthday to my dad. You're my idol and my hero. Love you heaps,' he wrote. John recently underwent jaw reconstruction surgery, which lasted 12 hours and required 26 doctors, after he was diagnosed with oral cancer in 2022. After a long recovery out of the spotlight, the hitmaker is back to enjoying life with his loved ones. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. John's son James revealed in February that his famous father was recovering well after having a cancerous growth removed from his mouth in 2022. 'He's doing great,' James said on Sunrise at the time. 'He's walking around, kicking goals, and annoying mum as normal.' 'As long as he's annoying someone, you know he's on the mend,' host Natalie Barr said. John spent long months in recovery during a harrowing cancer battle. He discovered he had the cancerous growth in his mouth after his wife Jill insisted he get a persistent mouth ulcer checked out. Having found a malignant tumour, the resulting operation saw parts of his mouth and jaw removed, and lasted nearly 12 hours. John then underwent eight gruelling weeks of radiation and, 12 months later, was declared cancer-free. In his memoir The Voice Inside, John detailed his cancer ordeal and how it robbed him of his life's passion. 'My facial disfigurement from the surgery means I can't open my mouth wide enough for a strip of spaghetti, let alone to sing,' he wrote. 'I can't get the movement to make the sounds I want to make, that's where the vibrations and my voice come from. It's a very disconcerting thing. And trying hurts.' While he has temporarily been robbed of what was regarded as one of the great voices of popular music, he still has hopes that one day he will perform again. 'I was given a gift and to be able to get out there and affect people in some way was special, I would like to continue doing that,' he shared. John also said he believes the tumour came about as a result of his long-term smoking habit, which he eventually managed to kick. 'Cancer doesn't discriminate, but as soon as I was told the results, I couldn't help thinking it was my own fault, I smoked very heavily all my life,' he said. He said he started smoking at the age of 14 and would do so in secret after his disapproving parents once caught him.
