Heavy rain and flood alert for parts of KZN
Forecaster Sihle Dlamini confirmed that the heavy rain could lead to localised flooding, especially in informal settlements and low-lying areas.
'The areas that are covered by this warning include eThekwini, KwaDukuza, Mandeni, Maphumulo, Ndwedwe, Ray Nkonyeni, Umlazi, as well as Umzumbe,' said Dlamini.
SAWS warns of slippery roads, difficult driving conditions, and potential damage to mud-built homes in the affected regions.
Saturday will mark the arrival of a cold front moving through the province. According to Dlamini, temperatures are expected to fall rapidly behind the system.
'Usually when a cold front passes, just behind it, that's where you're going to find cold temperatures,' he explained.
'In this case, we're going to be falling behind the cold front. That is why you'll encounter cold conditions.'
This sudden dip will be felt across the province, with most areas experiencing a significant chill after the front's passage. Heavy rain and lower temperatures are expected to make outdoor activities uncomfortable, especially along the South Coast.
Rain chances remain high throughout the weekend, with varying intensities forecasted across the region.
Dlamini noted, 'A 30% chance of showers is expected across most areas of KZN,' while the South Coast faces a 60% likelihood of rain.
Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads and reduce speed on slippery surfaces. Emergency services may be on standby to respond to weather-related incidents.

Cloudy and cool conditions are expected in parts of KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal will experience cooler temperatures and cloudy skies today. Despite the cloud cover, no rain is expected. Coastal cities like Durban will see overcast conditions for most of the day, with a high 23°C forecast. The cloudiness will stretch into Pietermaritzburg and other inland areas, although temperatures will remain mild. 'Conditions will be cloudy and cool, especially over Durban and coastal areas,' said weather forecaster Mpho Rasimphi. 'We're expecting a high of 23°C in Durban and 22°C.' Unlike the Eastern Cape, which may receive scattered rainfall, KwaZulu-Natal is not forecast to get significant rain today. However, overcast skies may persist through most of the afternoon. Gauteng to remain sunny and mild
Gauteng residents can expect sunny skies and mild temperatures as a high-pressure system continues to dominate the region's weather. Johannesburg will reach a maximum of 20°C. With no significant cold fronts forecasted, Gauteng will begin the week under relatively stable weather conditions. Clear skies are expected across most parts of the province, including Johannesburg and Pretoria, with overnight temperatures remaining mild for this time of year. 'It's going to be a clear and sunny day across Gauteng,' said Mpho Rasimphi, a weather forecaster. 'Johannesburg will be mild, with a high of 20°C.' The absence of rain or strong winds will offer ideal conditions for commuters and outdoor activity across the region. Although Gauteng remains clear, residents travelling to neighbouring regions such as the Northern Cape and parts of the Western Cape are advised to take caution. Conditions are expected to stay consistent into the next day, so Gauteng will likely enjoy a stable weather pattern for the immediate future. Rain and icy conditions expected across South Africa this week
A cold front is expected to bring widespread rain, chilly temperatures, and possible snow to parts of South Africa from midweek. South Africans can expect a cold and wet week ahead, as showers and cold air are expected to move across the country starting Tuesday. According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), most areas will remain clear initially, but significant changes are on the horizon from midweek. On Tuesday, no severe impact-based weather warnings have been issued, with "NIL" alerts across the country. Fine and partly cloudy conditions are expected in most areas, with isolated morning fog patches over the interior of the Western Cape and southern parts of the Northern Cape. Light 30% chance showers are forecast for coastal areas in the Eastern Cape, particularly around East London and Mthatha. By Wednesday, July 16, cold air starts spreading over much of the central and southern interior. Fine weather will persist over the northern parts of the country, including Limpopo and Mpumalanga, where it will remain warm.
