UPPSC to soon issue notification for hiring 1500 lecturers; makes BEd must
The move comes after the commission decided to begin the recruitment process for 7,466 LT Grade assistant teacher posts in govt schools on July 28.

This is a follow-up to a previous recruitment drive in Dec 2020 when 1,473 lecturer positions were advertised across 16 subjects.
In the current cycle, the directorate of secondary education had initially sent proposals to the commission for 19 subjects for male candidates and one for female candidates. However, the commission has now received proposals for all 20 subjects.
The release of the advertisement has been delayed due to discrepancies in the requisitions for two subjects.
Commission officials have confirmed that discussions with directorate officials are underway, and the issues are expected to be resolved within a week.
Once resolved, the official notification will be issued for nearly 1,500 lecturer positions.
A significant change in the eligibility criteria has been introduced this time. While a postgraduate degree was previously sufficient, the new rules—recently issued by the state govt—now make a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree mandatory.
This aims to standardise the qualifications but has also come as a setback for many aspirants.
The revised recruitment rules have also removed the term "equivalent qualification," which previously led to legal disputes and delays. This clarification is expected to make the recruitment process smoother and timely.
However, this update has disappointed lakhs of candidates who hold only a postgraduate degree and were preparing for the recruitment. These candidates will now need to obtain a BEd degree, typically a two-year course, before becoming eligible to apply in future cycles.
With the revised qualifications and clearer guidelines, UPPSC aims to conduct a more efficient and dispute-free recruitment process this time.

The report is expected to outline the current medical condition of the injured students and specify the compensation provided to the families of the deceased. It should also address whether disciplinary action has been initiated against any officials deemed responsible for the negligence and what preventive steps have been taken to avoid similar tragedies in the future. The NHRC emphasises the urgent need for structural audits of school buildings throughout Rajasthan and a comprehensive reassessment of safety measures across public educational institutions. Prior to this, the Rajasthan government has decided to prioritise the repair of dilapidated school buildings, government institutions, and Anganwadi centres across the state. The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. The Chief Minister announced that the permissible allocation under the Dang, Magra, and Mewat Regional Development Plan for the repair of government institutions, including school buildings and Anganwadi centres, would be increased from 15 per cent to 20 per cent.

Preps done for RO/ARO prelim exam today
Prayagraj: Extensive arrangements have been made to monitor the Review Officer (RO) / Assistant Review Officer (ARO) Preliminary Examination-2023, to be held on Sunday (July 27) at 2,382 centres in the state. Being considered the biggest examination in the history of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) in terms of the number of candidates, the Commission has taken several steps to conduct the pre-exam in a transparent and fair manner. Earlier, in the same examination held on February 11, 2024, the paper was leaked, and the Commission had to cancel the examination. This examination is now going to be held after one and a half years, and during this time, many significant decisions are being taken for the transparency and monitoring of the examination. Importantly, the RO/ARO examination will be conducted for the first time with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). If any candidate looks around, speaks, or murmurs in the examination hall, then with the help of AI technology, which works in synchronization with the high-definition CCTV installed in the room, the candidate concerned will be immediately identified. A total of 10,76,004 candidates have applied for recruitment to 411 posts of RO/ARO. For the first time, the Commission has set up centres in all the districts of the state for this examination. A total of 106 examination centres have been set up in Prayagraj alone. Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Ravindra Mandar while interacting with the media on Saturday said, "We are fully prepared to conduct the RO/ARO exam at 106 exam centres in Prayagraj, wherein over 45,000 candidates will appear. We have trained the sector and static magistrates, along with other staff, who will be deployed to conduct the exam." The DM further said that he, along with other officials of the district administration, inspected the exam control centres on Saturday. Mandar also said that the police, LIU, and all the security agencies are on high alert, and all individuals, especially those involved in alleged paper leaks on previous occasions or those who have a criminal history, are being monitored very closely.

Defending need for SIR in the Supreme Court, Election Commission cites parties' complaints about voter list errors
Defending its decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls in the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of India pointed to the numerous complaints made by political parties about the inaccuracy of voter lists. '[I]n response, and to restore public confidence in the integrity of the electoral roll, the Commission has initiated the SIR,' it told the court in a counter-affidavit filed on July 21. The Commission even submitted copies of these complaints in an annexure to the affidavit, running into 625 pages. The annexure includes complaints made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before the Delhi Assembly polls, and by the Congress and its allies about alleged additions made to voter lists during the Maharashtra Assembly polls last year, as well as by the BJP, AIADMK, and Shiv Sena. '...several recognised political parties across the spectrum have raised serious concerns with the Commission regarding inaccuracies in the electoral rolls — citing the inclusion of ineligible and deceased individuals and exclusion of eligible voters. These concerns arise from the limitations of the summary revision process which does not require fresh preparation of electoral rolls,' the ECI affidavit said. On July 28, the Supreme Court will hear petitions filed by Opposition parties and activists challenging the SIR. Opposition attacks The first phase of the SIR ended on July 25, with the possibility of around 66 lakh names being struck off Bihar's draft electoral roll. Some of these names belong to deceased voters, or those who have migrated out of the State, while other voters were registered to vote in two locations or failed to complete their enumeration forms. Opposition parties, led by the Congress, have been consistently attacking the Election Commission alleging that electoral rolls were manipulated during the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly polls. Earlier this week, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi opened a new front by claiming voter list manipulation in Karnataka as well during last year's Lok Sabha election. The poll body said that political parties across the spectrum have also voiced concerns regarding the accuracy of the electoral rolls revised through the summary revision process, regarding the wrongful inclusion of the names of deceased, migrated and non-citizen voters. In order to restore public confidence and address these concerns, it has decided to undertake the SIR, the ECI said. Unlike summary revisions, the SIR involves a complete, ground-up preparation of the electoral rolls to ensure accuracy, transparency, and inclusion. 'Foundational exercise needed' A senior ECI official told The Hindu that the Commission had also appraised the matter independent of these complaints and had come to a conclusion that an intensive revision was needed. The counter-affidavit submitted in court also reflects this stance. 'The Commission was of the considered view that the absence of any intensive revision for nearly two decades necessitated a more rigorous and foundational exercise,' it said. The poll body also informed the Supreme Court that about 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents have been appointed by political parties to help Booth Level Officers reach out to the voters.
