EastEnders fans spot major Nugget 'blunder' and tell soap to 'sort out' issue

Daily Mirror3 days ago
EastEnders viewers reacted to a scene that aired this week which saw characters Nugget Gulati and Avani Nandra-Hart approach their dad Ravi Gulati about a birthday party
Fans of EastEnders have shared confusion over a scene that aired this week, suggesting that it included a blunder. It featured some of the Panesar family and comes ahead of a special occasion set to take place this month.
The scene in tonight's episode of the BBC show saw Ravi Gulati (played by Aaron Thiara) approached about organising a 'sweet sixteen' party for his daughter Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James). She's set to celebrate her 16th birthday later this month with some of her friends on Albert Square.

She was joined by her older brother Davinder 'Nugget' Gulati (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury) whilst asking their father about planning a party. Nugget suggested in the scene that the siblings start inviting friends ahead of the event.
Encouraging Ravi to let them go ahead with their plans, Avani told him: "Dad, I'm only 16 once y'know?" Nugget then suggested that he will instead be turning 18 soon, saying: "And my 18th ain't far away. I've got to celebrate that too."
Following the episode's early release on BBC iPlayer on Monday, some fans on X have raised questions about the ages referenced in the scene. It's been suggested by viewers that Nugget is thought to be 16 at the moment.

It would mean that he turns 17 on his next birthday, with his 18th then not until next year. His pal Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega), who is thought to be in the same school year, is himself turning 17 "soon", as mentioned just last month.
One viewer wrote: "So confused about the age gap between Nugget & Avani? He's meant to be born in Sept 2008 & her in July 2009 (making them Irish twins, born 10 months apart). But he reckons he's 18 soon & yet is in the same class as Denzel who said he was 17 soon (October)? Help!"
They added in a second post: "Also why are they in uniform if they've both just finished their GCSE exams last month? They'd be off school for the summer by now. Sort out your continuity fails #EastEnders, pedants are watching!"

The post prompted reaction following the release of the episode earlier this week. Some other viewers shared their thoughts in replies.
Someone responded: "I think they've given up on continuity with the ages of these 2." Another said: "Apparently Nugget is 16 and is going to be 17 in September but he's saying that he's turning 18 so I'm confused about that too."
One person wrote on the platform this week: "He would be 17 in September 18 next year, my son was born Jan 09 and he is now 16 1/2. I hate when tv programs and films don't follow through with continuity, it's just messy and lazy!"

Others suggested that it wouldn't be the first time that a character's age has been altered. One fan said: "It's just tradition. Sharon was 13 in 1985 and 17 in 1986." Whilst another wrote: "They also upped Ian's age too I believe."
EastEnders continues tomorrow from 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The next episode is already available through the streaming platform.

Saturday Kitchen fans issue warning to Matt Tebbutt over 'raw' chicken dish

Saturday Kitchen viewers were left feeling queasy as a three-Michelin-starred chef served up a "raw" dish to the studio guests Viewers of Saturday Kitchen advised host Matt Tebbutt to be cautious, following the latest episode when celebrity chef Richard Bainbridge whipped up what some deemed a 'raw' meat dish. The BBC culinary weekend favourite, steered by 50-year-old Matt, featured the chef preparing what was intended to be a delectable feast for their famous guests, among whom were actor Vanessa Williams, chef Ran Shmueli, baker Crystelle Pereira, and wine connoisseur Helen McGinn. ‌ However, as the chef presented his roasted guinea fowl with accompanying roasted pistachio rice, heritage carrots, and shellfish bisque, viewers couldn't help but comment on what appeared to be undercooked poultry. ‌ Spectators quickly took notice that when slicing into the bird, the flesh looked "raw" and "bloody", prompting an instant outpouring of apprehension across social media platforms, reports the Express. One person wrote on X: "#SaturdayKitchen not a good advert for his restaurant if he serves half-cooked food." ‌ Another viewer shared: "#SaturdayKitchen that chicken is NOT cooked. Too pink and the legs are bloody!" A third chimed in adding: 'Raw chicken! Nice one #SaturdayKitchen.' A fourth chimed in with: 'I'm selling my restaurant on national tv. I'll show you how to cook a nice raw chicken [cry-laughing emoji].' Meanwhile, a fifth urged the chef: 'I think he should've cooked that guinea fowl for 50 minutes to an hour... #sturdaykitchen.' Despite the criticism from fans at home, the guests showered the cook with compliments on his lavish dish. Matt enthused: "This is delicious, and the weirdness with the shellfish and the guinea fowl is not weird at all. It's just rich." ‌ Vanessa was equally impressed, remarking: "This is so good, it's amazing" while fellow chef Ran Shmueli added: "What a beautiful day. The birds are singing, the sun is shining and the food is amazing. Usually it gets dry a little bit but this one is made to perfection." Meanwhile, amidst speculation about who will replace Gregg Wallace on MasterChef after his dismissal from the BBC series over misconduct allegations, Matt gave a cryptic response. ‌ Gregg Wallace initially took a step back from the hit cooking show in November as the allegations surfaced. In his stead, the recent episodes of Celebrity MasterChef were hosted by food critic Grace Dent alongside veteran judge John Torode. During a stint on the Grilled by the Staff Canteen podcast, where Matt was posed questions regarding a potential MasterChef hosting role, he conceded: "It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something." Back in March, an insider spilled the beans to The Sun about MasterChef chiefs banking on Matt to "make it his own", revealing he was in discussions to co-host the culinary competition with John. The source divulged: "Matt rose to the challenge of coming into Saturday Kitchen after it was previously hosted by another big name in the world of food, James Martin. "He managed the feat of making it his own and almost making viewers forget who his predecessor was - now Beeb bosses, and the show producers Banijay - will be hoping he can work the same magic on MasterChef."

Doctor Who favourite backs Fringe premier for paranormal thriller

Forty-six years after it first terrified a generation of TV viewers BBC's Scotland's chilling paranormal thriller, The Omega Factor, is set to return in a brand new stage production at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Omega Factor: By The Pricking of My Thumbs, by Natasha Gerson, daughter of series' creator Jack Gerson, and award-winning playwright Liam Rudden, is an immersive play that invites audiences to join the cast of a private radio recording of Shakespeare's Macbeth at the mystical Rosslyn Chapel, where they soon discover they are pawns in a chilling battle for their souls. With the stakes rising by the second, the eternal battle reaches terrifying climax. Drexel is back, determined that this time, with the help of his demons, he will not be thwarted. Set in Edinburgh and shot in and around the capital and Glasgow, the original TV series starred Louise Jameson, fresh from her stint as Doctor Who's companion Leela, and the late James Hazeldine, best remembered as Bayleaf in ITV's London's Burning. The Omega Factor introduced viewers to journalist Tom Crane (Hazeldine), a man with latent psychic powers who finds himself recruited to secret government organisation Department 7, led by physicist Dr Anne Reynolds (Jameson). Joining Department 7's fight to defeat powerful, rogue psychic Edward Drexel, played with suave malevolence by the late Cyril Luckham, Crane and Reynolds investigated a host of unexplained supernatural phenomena. As the never-ending battle between good and evil raged across 10 episodes terrifying viewers, the dark nature of the programme quickly caught the attention of Mary Whitehouse, the reactionary founder of the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, who had questions raised in the House of Commons about the show's moral compass. A planned second series was quietly axed. The Omega Factor would not die, however, and later enjoyed three spin-off novels and four audio series, produced by Big Finish Productions. Gerson, who also played the character of Morag in the television series, a role she reprised the audio productions between 2015 and 2023, is delighted to have the support of another original cast member for the Fringe show, Dr Anne Reynold's herself, Louise Jameson, who currently plays Mary Goskirk in Emmerdale and is much loved for her roles in Tenko and Bergerac. Jameson said: 'I'm backing The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs wholeheartedly. I always thought there was more life in the series and that the BBC made a faux pas by taking it off air too early – hey ho – onwards. I hope it is a marvellous success.' Gerson concurred: 'We all wanted to do a second series, but it never happened. I know that my Dad was very disappointed by that.' With a smile, she reflected: 'The Omega Factor's original title was The Undiscovered Country. It was a project close to my Dad's heart and mine as it was my first acting role on telly, working on it with James Hazeldine, producer George Gallaccio and, of course, Louise, who were all highly skilled and supportive, was a joy.' The seven strong cast of The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs includes Edward Cory, Lorraine Pritchard, Lee Fanning, Ross Jamieson, and acclaimed Edinburgh-actor Michael Daviot, who will soon be seen in the lead role of Dr Helberson in A Watcher By The Dead, one of four stories comprising In The Grip Of Terror, the first Amicus film to be made in nearly 50 years, as The Stranger. The World Premiere of The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs, will run for five nights only, from 19-23 August, 2025, at Braw Theatres @ Grand Lodge, 96 George Street.
