Doctor Who favourite backs Fringe premier for paranormal thriller
The Omega Factor: By The Pricking of My Thumbs, by Natasha Gerson, daughter of series' creator Jack Gerson, and award-winning playwright Liam Rudden, is an immersive play that invites audiences to join the cast of a private radio recording of Shakespeare's Macbeth at the mystical Rosslyn Chapel, where they soon discover they are pawns in a chilling battle for their souls.
With the stakes rising by the second, the eternal battle reaches terrifying climax. Drexel is back, determined that this time, with the help of his demons, he will not be thwarted.
Set in Edinburgh and shot in and around the capital and Glasgow, the original TV series starred Louise Jameson, fresh from her stint as Doctor Who's companion Leela, and the late James Hazeldine, best remembered as Bayleaf in ITV's London's Burning.
The Omega Factor introduced viewers to journalist Tom Crane (Hazeldine), a man with latent psychic powers who finds himself recruited to secret government organisation Department 7, led by physicist Dr Anne Reynolds (Jameson). Joining Department 7's fight to defeat powerful, rogue psychic Edward Drexel, played with suave malevolence by the late Cyril Luckham, Crane and Reynolds investigated a host of unexplained supernatural phenomena.
As the never-ending battle between good and evil raged across 10 episodes terrifying viewers, the dark nature of the programme quickly caught the attention of Mary Whitehouse, the reactionary founder of the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, who had questions raised in the House of Commons about the show's moral compass. A planned second series was quietly axed.
The Omega Factor would not die, however, and later enjoyed three spin-off novels and four audio series, produced by Big Finish Productions.
Gerson, who also played the character of Morag in the television series, a role she reprised the audio productions between 2015 and 2023, is delighted to have the support of another original cast member for the Fringe show, Dr Anne Reynold's herself, Louise Jameson, who currently plays Mary Goskirk in Emmerdale and is much loved for her roles in Tenko and Bergerac.
Jameson said: 'I'm backing The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs wholeheartedly. I always thought there was more life in the series and that the BBC made a faux pas by taking it off air too early – hey ho – onwards. I hope it is a marvellous success.'
Gerson concurred: 'We all wanted to do a second series, but it never happened. I know that my Dad was very disappointed by that.'
With a smile, she reflected: 'The Omega Factor's original title was The Undiscovered Country. It was a project close to my Dad's heart and mine as it was my first acting role on telly, working on it with James Hazeldine, producer George Gallaccio and, of course, Louise, who were all highly skilled and supportive, was a joy.'
The seven strong cast of The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs includes Edward Cory, Lorraine Pritchard, Lee Fanning, Ross Jamieson, and acclaimed Edinburgh-actor Michael Daviot, who will soon be seen in the lead role of Dr Helberson in A Watcher By The Dead, one of four stories comprising In The Grip Of Terror, the first Amicus film to be made in nearly 50 years, as The Stranger.
The World Premiere of The Omega Factor: By The Pricking Of My Thumbs, will run for five nights only, from 19-23 August, 2025, at Braw Theatres @ Grand Lodge, 96 George Street.

Lorraine Kelly films show for ITV rival amid 'opening eyes' to new projects
Lorraine Kelly was away filming last month and it's now been reported that she was working on a 'big budget' travel show for Channel 4 ahead of changes to her ITV talk show TV presenter Lorraine Kelly is said to have filmed a "big budget" project for Channel 4 recently. Ahead of changes to her long-running ITV talk show next year, it's been teased that she's considering other options that she could explore. Lorraine, now 65, has fronted her eponymous show for more than a decade, with it having launched in 2010. It was however announced by ITV earlier this year that, from January next year, episodes will be reduced to 30 minutes. It was also revealed that the show will then only run for 30 weeks each year. Following the news, last month, Lorraine shared that she was away and teased that she was having "big filming adventures" in Norway. She said in a video message on Instagram: "I'm in the land of the midnight sun. It's absolutely glorious. It's a project that I've wanted to do for years and years, and finally it's actually happening. I'm heading really, really far north." It's now been reported by the Sun that Lorraine flew to the country last month to work on a travel show for Channel 4, rather than ITV. A source told the outlet that the broadcaster was "delighted" to have signed up Lorraine for the project. The source said it was "exciting" for her to do "something different" and to be back on location somewhere. They teased that amid the shake-up at ITV daytime shows, her "loyal" fans will support Lorraine "wherever she goes". They said: "Despite the apparent slight in the ITV daytime shake-up, Lorraine's loyal fanbase isn't to be underestimated and they will follow her wherever she goes. She's survived in this business a long time, and she's a master at rolling with the punches." It's also been reported by the outlet that the production role Head of Lorraine is being axed at ITV. It's claimed that her two producers are set to instead report to bosses on This Morning. The source said that it casts doubt on the future of the talk show and claimed that her current contract finishes next year. The source teased: "She's opening her eyes up to the many options available to her." ITV said in a statement: "We have always said that from January 2026, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be three editorially distinct shows which will be produced by one team. These changes are not about the performance of the shows or the staff. We can assure our viewers that their favourite daytime shows will remain familiar to them on screen." Although best known for her work on ITV, Lorraine has appeared on other channels over the years too. It includes her having been on Channel 4's the Last Leg on several occasions and she mentioned the show on a podcast recently. She teased last month that she's able to be "a bit naughty" on shows away from ITV's Lorraine. As reported at the time, she said to Tom Kerridge on the Proper Tasty podcast: "40 years in TV last year was incredible. I got a BAFTA. 'Here's a BAFTA for being alive.' I thought, 'Hang on a minute, I'm not done yet'. "I think now I can be a lot cheekier. Because I've always been a bit naughty. Not so much in the morning, but if I do a wee show on Channel 4, or The Last Leg, or something like that." She teased: "You can be unleashed. And I quite like that. You do have to have a self-edit button and I'm finding mine is not operating as much as it should."

EastEnders actor arrested on set after 'indecent assault' on female extra
EastEnders cast members were reportedly shocked as an extra was arrested on set for 'indecent assault'. It's claimed that an unnamed man in his fifties tried to forcibly kiss another female cast member without her consent. The woman complained about the incident, causing cameras to stop rolling. It was then that security intervened, which caused a scene as the man fought back. The extra, whose exact role on the show is unknown, was later removed from the set and detained by police in Hertfordshire. A source told The Sun on Sunday: 'In all the years of filming EastEnders, nothing this dramatic has happened—with police turning up at the studios. 'Everyone was quite shaken up by it all. No one could quite believe what was happening. 'The main focus was the woman's welfare, as she was clearly very distressed.' They added that matters became 'very heated when the man squared up to the security staff as they tried to calm things.' 'Eventually, he was questioned and taken away by police.' While the incident is said to have taken place earlier in spring, it is common knowledge that soaps such as EastEnders film months in advance, meaning the scenes involving the accused extra could have already aired. However, this is not known, nor is it known if he will feature at all. As per the publication, the woman involved received attention from BBC staff while filming was halted for a while. Shooting then continued. 'Everyone involved in the production, including the cast and crew, acted very responsibly in an extremely difficult situation,' explained the insider. Crew members were also said to be thankful for how bosses handled the issue with 'professionalism and understanding'. It's believed that the man accused was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and common assault, both against two separate people. The latter is thought to refer to his altercation with security when he was escorted away. The individual is currently on bail as an investigation takes place. In a statement, Hertfordshire Police said: 'We can confirm we did receive a report of an incident that took place in Eldon Avenue, Borehamwood, on Wednesday, May 7. 'The suspect, a man aged in his fifties, was arrested on suspicion of common assault and sexual assault in relation to two victims. 'He is on police bail whilst enquiries continue.' Additionally, the BBC said in a statement to Metro this weekend: 'While we would never comment on individuals, EastEnders has on-site security and well-established procedures in place to safeguard the safety and welfare of everyone who works on the show.' At the time, the likes of Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale and has done so since the soap first aired in 1985, were on set and allegedly witnessed the arrest. Police 'arrested an EastEnders actor on suspicion of indecent assault on set in front of shocked BBC soap opera stars', it has been revealed. The famous cast of the popular soap series had been filming scenes on May 7 when camera crews were abruptly stopped after a woman allegedly complained that a fellow extra had attempted to forcibly kiss her. Following a scuffle with security, the man, aged in his 50s, was eventually handed over to police officers at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, T he Sun has reported. After a 'lengthy break', filming, which was taking place in the iconic fictional Albert Square, is then said to have resumed. The woman involved in the alleged incident was also given specialist care and support from BBC staff. Adam Woodyatt, the longest-serving cast member in the show's history, was reportedly involved in filming on set during the alleged assault, alongside other famous stars of the program. The man was held on suspicion of indecent assault of the female extra, alongside for common assault against another individual. The unnamed actor is said to be remaining on bail while an investigation into the complaint takes place. A source told The Sun that 'everyone' on set was left 'quite shaken' by the 'extremely difficult situation', adding: 'No one could quite believe what was happening'. Describing the woman as 'very distressed', the source told the publication that the man had 'squared up to the security staff as they tried to calm things.' The source also praised both the cast and crew for their responsible approach towards the alleged assault, alongside their 'professionalism and understanding'. Cameras were reportedly unable to capture footage of the alleged attack, with it also unknown whether any scenes filmed on that day have been aired to viewers. In a statement issued to The Sun, Hertfordshire Police confirmed that they had 'received a report of an incident that took place in Eldon Avenue, Borehamwood on Wednesday, May 7'. They added: 'The suspect, a man aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of common assault and sexual assault in relation to two victims. 'He is on police bail whilst enquiries continue.' It comes just days after the charges were dropped against an actor who was arrested while filming the hit TV show Rivals. Nigel Adams, 45, was arrested by Avon and Somerset Police at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire on June 4, while performing a polo scene with former EastEnders star Danny Dyer. Mr Adams, who was also a supporting actor on BBC's Casualty and Doctor Who, was accused of attacking his long-term partner Louise Payne at a house in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset. After spending two nights in a police cell, the TV extra was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his girlfriend in an alleged incident on March 31 of this year. Attending Bristol Crown Court on Monday for a plea and trial preparation hearing, Mr Adams pleaded not guilty to the charge. Christine Hart, prosecuting, said she would be offering no evidence against Mr Adams, saying: 'Subsequent to the case being charged, there is a statement by Ms Payne. 'She is here at court today, she sits in the public gallery. Attending Bristol Crown Court on Monday for a plea and trial preparation hearing, Mr Adams (pictured) pleaded not guilty to the charge. Christine Hart, prosecuting, said she would be offering no evidence against Mr Adams 'She has made it clear she didn't wish to proceed with the case. I have spoken to her at length, as has the officer in charge. 'Taking into account the evidence already in the case and that statement, the only option I have is to offer no evidence on the outstanding count.' Judge William Hart told the court he would formally enter a not-guilty verdict in the case. The judge told Mr Adams: 'A not-guilty verdict, you are free to leave, thank you.' Speaking outside court, Mr Adams and Ms Payne said they were grateful the case had been dropped. Hertfordshire Police, The BBC and The Metropolitan Police were all contacted for comment.
