Burjeel Holdings acquires the Medeor Hospital building in Bur Dubai

Healthcare provider Burjeel Holdings has acquired the Medeor 24×7 Hospital building, located near BurJuman Centre in Bur Dubai for AED170 million ($46.3 million).
The Medeor 24×7 Hospital served as a trusted community healthcare provider in Bur Dubai for over a decade. Prior to the acquisition, it was operated under a long-term lease agreement, the company said in a statement.
The remaining fixed rental commitment was of approximately AED343 million ($93.4 million) over the next 15 years. The strategic transaction eliminates that significant liability and replaces it with asset ownership in a high-performing and strategically located facility.

The hospital's infrastructure is already optimised for efficient healthcare delivery and supports potential upgrades such as day surgeries and specialty clinics.
By securing full control of the hospital, Burjeel Holdings will ensure uninterrupted operations and avoid the risks and costs associated with relocation. It also enhances operational flexibility, allowing for future expansion, reconfiguration, and diversification of services without the landlord's restrictions.
This acquisition aligns with Burjeel's long-term strategy to enhance operational control, reduce fixed lease liabilities, and reinforce its asset base in strategic locations.
The hospital's location and strong patient volumes align with Burjeel Holdings' regional growth objectives, as it prioritises an increased presence across Dubai and the Northern Emirates, regions with strong demographic demand and high potential for scalable service delivery.
John Sunil, CEO of Burjeel Holdings, commented: 'This acquisition reflects our disciplined capital strategy and commitment to long-term value creation. By transitioning from leasehold to ownership in a key market, we reinforce our operational resilience and strengthen our platform for growth.
'Dubai, along with the Northern Emirates, remains a central focus of our expansion strategy, and securing full control of this asset enables us to deepen our presence and better serve these high-demand markets.'
Established in 2015, Medeor 24×7 Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital, offering a wide range of services, including mother and childcare, congenital malformation surgeries of the brain and spine, cardiology and various speciality surgeries. The hospital also houses a College of American Pathologists-accredited laboratory.

Syrian conjoined twins successfully separated in Saudi after complex 8-hour surgery

Syrian conjoined twins Selin and Elin, aged one year and five months, have been successfully separated after a highly complex surgical procedure in Saudi Arabia. The intricate procedure, which lasted eight continuous hours, was performed by a multidisciplinary team of 24 medical specialists. 'This achievement is a testament to the high calibre of Saudi medical professionals and the Kingdom's humanitarian mission to serve people worldwide," said Dr Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, head of the surgical team and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief). According to Saudi Gazette, the operation took place at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City, under the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh. The surgical team included experts in paediatric surgery, anaesthesiology, plastic surgery, and other key fields, ensuring every stage of the procedure was performed with maximum precision and safety. The twins' family expressed heartfelt thanks to King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the dedicated medical team for the exceptional care their daughters received. This marks the fourth successful separation of conjoined twins from Syria and the 66th surgery completed under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme — a globally recognised initiative that has evaluated 150 cases from 27 countries over the past 35 years. The surgical team included specialists in paediatric surgery, anaesthesiology, plastic surgery, and other critical disciplines, ensuring every stage of the procedure was performed with maximum precision and safety. The procedure took place at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City, under the Ministry of National Guard in Riyadh. The successful operation also drew praise from Syrian officials. Hussein Abdulaziz, chargé d'affaires at the Syrian Embassy in Riyadh, thanked the Saudi government, KSrelief, and the entire medical team. He highlighted the advanced capabilities of the Kingdom's healthcare system and noted the operation as a powerful symbol of the strong brotherly ties between Saudi Arabia and Syria. This is not the first time Saudi Arabia has extended its advanced medical services to children from abroad. In June last year, a similar procedure was performed on six-month-old Filipino conjoined twins, Akeiza and Aisha. The surgery, which was conducted in five stages over 7.5 hours, had a projected success rate of 70 per cent and was also carried out at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital.

UAE: Visa waiver for some Pakistani passport holders comes into effect at all airports

The UAE and Pakistan have activated a visa waiver for diplomatic and official passport holders, said Ishaq Dar, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan. In a statement on social media platform X, Dar said he met Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs earlier this week, where he was informed that the visa waiver has come into effect from July 25, 2025. The two countries signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passports in the last week of July during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Abu Dhabi. "In my meeting at Abu Dhabi on June 24, 2025, with my brother Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we agreed mutual visa waivers on diplomatic and official passports between our two brotherly countries and we both signed a Memorandum of Understanding to make this arrangement effective and operative after 30 days of the signing of the said MoU. "I am pleased to confirm that I have been informed by the UAE authorities that the visa waiver for diplomatic and official Pakistani passports entering the UAE has been activated, effective July 25, 2025, at all UAE airports,' Dar said. On the reciprocal basis, he added that similar arrangements have also been activated for UAE nationals at all Pakistani airports. The UAE and Pakistan have close diplomatic, cultural and trade ties. There are over 1.7 million Pakistanis living and working in the UAE. In addition, hundreds of thousands of tourists from Pakistan visit the Gulf country every year. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has visited the UAE numerous times ever since he took office. Importantly, this waiver is only for diplomatic and official passport holders and it is not applicable for ordinary passports.
