Is this team the Rams' biggest rival in 2025?
The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to that idea, and they'll have some interesting matches in 2025 that could be considered rivalries. Their six NFC West games are certainly on that level, and you could even wrap the 2024 NFC Divisional Round rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3 as well.
But which team is the Rams' biggest rival this year? Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano writes that its the San Francisco 49ers.
There might not be a better rivalry between head coaches than Sean McVay vs. Kyle Shanahan. McVay's Rams have won the past three meetings against Shanahan's 49ers, but their most significant win occurred when Los Angeles beat San Francisco in the NFC title game before winning the Super Bowl in the 2021 season.
Shanahan, however, has a 10–7 advantage in the meetings with McVay as head coaches.
It's hard to pick another team for this spot given the divisional battle as well as the ties that bind McVay and Shanahan together. They were both hired as head coaches in 2017 and both have competed in Super Bowls. However, McVay has one ring and Shanahan doesn't.
Coincidentally, the Rams were not picked as the 49ers' main rival. That honor went to the Kansas City Chiefs, who've beaten San Francisco in two Super Bowls.
The Rams were, however, named as the Detroit Lions' biggest rival. The main reason only manifested a few years ago after the Matthew Stafford-Jared Goff trade, but the games they've played have also been exciting. They'll face off again in Week 15.
The Rams got the better end of the deal with Stafford winning a Super Bowl in his first year in Los Angeles after many losing seasons in Detroit. But since then, the Lions have become a powerhouse and knocked off the Rams in the wild-card round during the 2023 season.
These two teams also had an overtime thriller in Week 1 last year, with Detroit winning, 26–20. It wouldn't be a surprise if these two rivals meet in the postseason again in 2025.
It'll be interesting how either rivalry looks if and when the main characters aren't there anymore. The 49ers will likely always be rivals because of their California and divisional connection, but the Lions' one is predicated mainly on the Stafford vs. Goff dynamic, which won't last forever.

Jauan Jennings dealing with dangerous injury for 2nd time this offseason
The San Francisco 49ers have another injury at the top of their receiving corps. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings left Sunday's practice early because of a calf issue. It's the second time this offseason he's dealt with a calf problem. Jennings also had a calf ailment in OTAs according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Eric Branch. This is a tenuous situation for the 49ers because they desperately need Jennings to be healthy this season. He led the team's wide receivers with 975 yards a year ago and he looked to be in line for a similar role to start the 2025 campaign. Calf injuries are tricky because of the proximity to and potential impact on the Achilles. Just last season running back Christian McCaffrey missed virtually all of training camp with what the team called a calf injury. It turns out it was Achilles tendinitis that cost the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year the first eight weeks of the regular season. Jennings joins Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing in the group of 49ers WRs dealing with injuries early in camp. Aiyuk is still recovering from a major knee injury he sustained in Week 7 last year, and Cowing is out for some time because of a hamstring injury he suffered on the first day of camp. Pearsall missed the start of camp because of a hamstring injury, but he did return to the field Sunday. If Jennings winds up missing significant time, it leaves the door wide open for Pearsall to take on the No. 1 WR role. The problem is the rest of the depth chart where veteran Demarcus Robinson is probably next up as the WR2. Rookie fourth-round pick Jordan Watkins could see additional reps with the first team, and veterans like Russell Gage could make their case for a roster spot if the top of the depth chart continues having health problems. Ideally Jennings won't miss a ton of time, but the location of his injury means the team should be smart with him and ensure they're not rushing him back into action. More 49ers: A former 7th-round pick could become a surprise receiving threat for the 49ers

Jeremiah Trotter Jr views pressure as a route to new opportunities with the Eagles
New responsibilities and Eagles injuries could crack the door for Jeremiah Trotter. We're entering year two of our discussions about nepotism and the Philadelphia Eagles' roster. Earlier this offseason, it was reported that there might be team interest in Asante Samuel Jr., but so far, the rumors have not led to any real action. That said, it seems more constructive to discuss a franchise legend's son who is already on the roster. It feels damn good to see the number 54 jersey on defense and know it belongs to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. This is Junior Axe Man. To most, he needs no introduction. His father was a big deal in midnight green. How fitting is it that his young lad was a proud member of Philadelphia's 2024 NFL Draft class? Some of us met him when we saw Dad holding him in his arms. The rest of the contingent may have met him during a successful run with the Clemson Tigers. Trotter Jr. enters his second Eagles training camp. Things seem to be going well. He appears to be making progress and has taken on a new responsibility that should provide him with more experience. That should benefit him as he walks into another regular season. There is also the injury to Nakobe Dean. He opens camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. After spending most of his rookie season contributing primarily on special teams, Trotter could see more meaningful snaps during games that count, but no one knows what that may look like at this point. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. adds to his palette at Eagles practice Jeremiah Trotter Sr. never won a Super Bowl with the Birds, though he did secure preferred seating at both victory parades. The younger Jeremiah Trotter won football's biggest game during his inaugural NFL season. He played primarily on special teams. One of the questions now is whether he will do so again this season. Most expected that, when he was drafted, 'Junior' would back up Nakobe Dean. No one expected, at that time, that Zack Baun would morph into a First-Team All-Pro. Thank Heaven that he did. It's always great to have as many great players on the roster as possible, but that shoved Trot Jr. further down the depth chart. Then came the selection of Jihaad Campbell during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That seemingly clouded Trotter's picture even further. It would have seen that he would have tumbled down the depth chart had it not been for injury concerns surrounding Campbell and Dean entering Eagles training camp. Everyone has been in the mix. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has added to the mix of first- and second-year stars. Campbell has gotten snaps with the defense's first team. Trotter has been splitting play-calling duties with Zack Baun during training camp. Both may see significant roles. No one is 100% certain of what those roles are yet, not even Vic Fangio. Thankfully, none of us has to perform the balancing acts.
