Religious, Ethnic Pluralism in Greater Asia.. Seminar at RIBF

Mohamed Mandour
As part of its cultural program at the 30th edition of the Rabat International Book Fair, the Muslim Council of Elders organized a seminar titled "Religion and the Nations of Greater Asia."
The session was moderated by Dr. Samir Boudinar, Director of the Al Hokama Center for Peace Research, and presented by Dr. Fouad Farahawi, Professor at the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Social Sciences at Mohammed I University (MIU) in Oujda.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Samir Boudinar noted that the theme was drawn from a recently published book by the Al Hokama Center for Peace Research, titled "Religion and the Nations of Greater Asia: Managing Religious and Ethnic Pluralism in China and India."
The book, a collaborative work by the research team behind the project Peace and the Religious and Ethnic Map of Asia, was overseen by Dr. Fouad Farahawi. It delves into the complexities of religious and ethnic diversity in Asia, with a particular focus on China and India, two of the most populous and culturally diverse nations in the region.
The book also explores the issue of identity, especially in India, as the second most populous country in Asia.
Dr. Fouad Farahawi emphasized that the book highlights Asia as the world's richest and most diverse region for Muslim populations, according to global demographic data.
He pointed out that the region plays a pivotal role in shaping the future global balance of power, especially with the cultural, economic, and strategic rise of both China and India.
He further noted that global peace is closely linked to stability in Asia, as patterns of cooperation and conflict in the region often reverberate across other parts of the world, including Africa, the Arab region, Europe, and the Americas.
He stressed that the reality and future of Muslims in Asia cannot be viewed in isolation from the historical evolution of the other nations, religions, and civilizations in the region. Given the broad ethnic and linguistic diversity of Muslims in Asia, it is only natural to find points of intersection with the ethnic compositions of other religious and philosophical traditions in the region.

US Imposes Sanctions on Cuban President

Israa Farhan The United States announced new sanctions on Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday, marking a significant escalation in pressure against the island's leadership. The move comes exactly four years after the largest anti-government protests Cuba has seen in decades. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington has imposed visa restrictions on Díaz-Canel for what it described as his role in the Cuban regime's violent repression of its citizens during and after the 2021 demonstrations. In addition to the Cuban president, the sanctions also target senior officials within the government. These include Defence Minister Álvaro López Miera and Interior Minister Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, both accused of playing key roles in the crackdown on dissent. The protests that erupted across Cuba in July 2021 were driven by widespread public frustration over economic hardship, food shortages, and restrictions on freedoms. The government responded with mass arrests and heavy-handed tactics that drew international condemnation. This new wave of sanctions highlights the Biden administration's firm stance on human rights abuses in Cuba, as well as its commitment to supporting democratic movements across the region. The sanctions are expected to further limit the ability of targeted officials to travel and access assets abroad. Washington's decision also signals a shift toward increased accountability for foreign leaders accused of systemic repression, potentially setting a precedent for future policy actions in Latin America and beyond. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Syria Temporarily Closes Border Crossing with Turkey

Israa Farhan Syria has temporarily closed the Kasab border crossing with Turkey due to rapidly spreading wildfires in the coastal mountain ranges that have reached dangerously close to the frontier. The announcement was made on Saturday by Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the General Authority of Syrian Land and Sea Ports, who confirmed the closure via a statement on X. He stated that Turkish authorities decided as a precautionary measure in response to the advancing fires in the Latakia countryside. Firefighting and civil defense teams in Syria are actively engaged on three major fronts to contain the blaze: Burj Zahia, the forests of al-Furunluq, and the area surrounding Nab' al-Mur near the town of Kasab. These regions are particularly difficult to access due to dense forestation, rugged terrain, and the presence of landmines and wartime remnants. According to the Syrian Civil Defense, operations have been significantly hindered by strong winds, which have caused the flames to reignite and leap beyond established firebreaks. The situation is further complicated by the hazardous topography and the presence of unexploded ordnance. The civil defense unit reported that wind gusts on Friday led to the rapid expansion of the fire, particularly in the Nab' al-Mur sector, which remains one of the most challenging areas for containment efforts. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
