Investing in Skills is Investing in Wales' Future
In a world where industries are evolving rapidly and technology continues to reshape how we live, learn and work, the most valuable asset we have in Wales is our people. As Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership, I understand how access to the right training at the right time can strengthen businesses, improve job prospects, and support a more resilient economy. I have a very personal insight into how we train the next generation of workers. I am a time-served engineer who trained and worked in advanced manufacturing, and I will always bring this experience to the table when looking at how we support learners and employers. The Flexible Skills Programme is one of the Welsh Government's most effective tools for supporting that ambition. Employers can access up to 50% of the accredited training costs, up to a maximum of £50,000 per application. From digital and cyber skills to engineering, and green technologies, and more, the programme gives Welsh businesses the support and flexibility to choose training that helps them upskill staff, boost retention, and adapt and grow in an ever-changing landscape. We know that these needs are pressing. In early 2025, the British Chambers of Commerce found that one in five firms had reduced their training budgets, citing financial pressures and competing priorities as challenges. These trends are particularly concerning for SMEs, which often face the greatest barriers to upskilling their workforce. By funding up to 50% of the accredited training costs, the Flexible Skills Programme helps ease the financial pressures and unlock new commercial opportunities. For SMEs in particular, this support can be transformative. Over the past two years, the programme has supported more than 8,000 training grants. With increased investment – from £1.3m to over £7.5million this year – even more individuals and businesses will be able to benefit, especially in skill areas that are critical to Wales' future economy and Net Zero goals. And while many Welsh organisations are increasing their focus on green technologies, 45% report lacking the confidence and skills to implement them effectively. This presents a clear opportunity for the Flexible Skills Programme to bridge the gap and equip our workforce with those critical skills. By developing a more capable workforce, businesses can increase productivity, improve efficiency, and boost staff confidence. In turn, this opens up new opportunities for innovation, service development, and market expansion. Broadening your team's capabilities will ensure both your staff and your business are equipped to meet the demands of tomorrow's economy. We've already seen this in action across Wales. Bisley, a Newport-based manufacturer long known for its steel storage solutions, has used the Flexible Skills Programme to support its expansion into wood furniture and digital design. The funding helped upskill staff in new technical areas, boosting agility, leadership, and productivity. With support from Business Wales, Bisley has adapted to changing customer needs, retained talent, and positioned itself for growth. It's a strong example of how investing in people can drive innovation and long-term success. The support also ensures that employees are not left behind as industries evolve. Whether someone is looking to move into a new role, take on more responsibility, or simply stay current in their field of work, having the opportunity to reskill or upskill is crucial. We want to create a workforce that is ready for the future and give businesses the tools they need to help people shape their careers. "The Social Network 2" in Works
Yara Sameh After teasing a potential sequel to his Oscar-winning drama "The Social Network" for years, Aaron Sorkin seems to have found an angle to tackle for his follow-up film. Sources tell Deadline that Sorkin has been tapped to direct "The Social Network Part II" for Sony Pictures. Insiders say that while it's being called part two, it's not a straight sequel but rather a follow-up to the original movie that explored the origins of what would become the world's biggest social media platform. Jesse Eisenberg starred as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in 'The Social Network,' but casting has yet to be announced for the sequel. Part 2 is in development with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin, and Stuart Besser producing. Sorkin's original screenplay for the new movie explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal's "The Facebook Files" by Jeff Horowitz, an explosive series of articles published in October 2021 that exposed the inner workings of — and multiple harms caused by — the world's largest social network. Released in 2010 by Sony Pictures and based on Ben Mezrich's "The Accidental Millionaires", "The Social Network" was a huge hit with audiences and critics and earned $226 million at the global box office. The pic had also been nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, the film won three, including Sorkin for Best Adapted Screenplay. Since its release, Sorkin has noted on several occasions his interest in doing a follow-up, but he couldn't find the right angle. Following the events of January 6, 2021, when the U.S. Capitol was attacked, Sorkin found his new inspiration. The filmmaker in an interview last year said that he believed Facebook played a part. Sources stress that the new film isn't a 'January 6' movie" and will focus on "not just on the 2020 election but also Facebook's effect on teens, preteens, violence, and countries outside the U.S." Although the original was directed by David Fincher, Sorkin will take on directing duties for this pic having sharpened his skills since the original Social Network came out. "Emily in Paris" Star Thalia Besson Returns for Season 5
Yara Sameh Thalia Besson, who played deceitful antagonist Geneviève in Season 4 of Netflix's hit romantic comedy series 'Emily in Paris,' is back for Season 5, which is currently filming in Paris. Besson, the daughter of French director Luc Besson, is joining the key recurring cast, notably Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who plays Emily's nonchalant boss Sylvie, Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), and Ashley Park, who stars as Emily's best friend, Mindy Chen. Season 5 also features the return of Emily Cooper's new Italian love interest, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), and her one-and-off partners, the sexy French chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and dashing Brit Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). A source says another male character will join the show this season. Geneviève is the second 'villain' from 'Emily in Paris,' following Camille, Gabriel's French partner who was played by Camille Razat in the first four seasons of the show. The American-French stepdaughter of Sylvie, Geneviève, is born out of wedlock. Geneviève is an NYU grad who moved to Paris in Season 4 and got hired at Agence Grateau, where Emily gracefully took her under her wing. However, Geneviève isn't as innocent as she appears to be, and she soon starts to attempt to steal her clients and seduce Emily's boyfriend, Gabriel. The latter ultimately turns down Geneviève and tries to win Emily back after learning that she's moved to Italy. Season 4 wraps with a cliffhanger as Gabriel surprises Emily by showing up on the doorsteps of her new flat in Rome. Season 5 launched filming last month in Rome and returned to the French capital several weeks ago. Amr Diab Reveals Title, Cover Art, First Taste of New Album
Yara Sameh "El Hadaba' Amr Diab has announced that his long-awaited album will be titled "Ebtadena". Diab announced the news social media along with sharing the cover art and first tase of his upcoming record. In the new album, the acclaimed singer collaborates with a large number of poets and composers, including Amr Mostafa, Bahaa El Din Mohamed, Ayman Bahgat Kamar, Tamer Hussein, and Aziz Al-Shafi'i. In December 2023, Diab released his last album "Makanak". The record contains 12 songs bearing surprises that represent major progress in Egyptian and Arab music. In the album, he collaborated with a large number of poets and composers including Bahaa El Din Mohamed, Ayman Bahgat Kamar, Tamer Hussein, mahraganat songwriter Mustafa Hadouta, Aziz Al-Shafi'i, Mohamed Yahya, and Islam Zaki.
