F1 director explains why Simone Ashley's role was cut from final version of Brad Pitt film

Express Tribune18-06-2025

Simone Ashley's role in the upcoming racing drama F1 has been largely removed from the final version of the film, which premieres in theaters on June 27. Although her casting alongside Brad Pitt and Damson Idris was announced in July 2024 and she was photographed filming, the Bridgerton star's appearance in the movie is minimal—with no dialogue.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, director Joseph Kosinski explained the decision, noting that 'two or three storylines' didn't make it into the final cut. 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use,' Kosinski said. Still, he praised Ashley as 'an incredible talent' and expressed interest in working with her again.
Ashley has not publicly commented on the edit, but in a recent interview with ELLE, she called the filming experience 'crazy' and said, 'I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie.' She also recalled attending multiple Grands Prix and described the adrenaline-filled set: 'Sometimes we literally had one take for certain shots… It was kind of like theater. It felt so live.'
In an earlier interview with Who What Wear, Ashley shared that she had met for the film before Bridgerton even aired. 'It's Damson and Brad's movie,' she said. 'I'm just so grateful that I can be part of it.'
F1—also starring Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem—is scheduled for theatrical release and IMAX on June 27, 2025.

Brad Pitt's Los Angeles home burglarised

Burglars broke into Brad Pitt's Los Angeles home on Thursday, ransacking the property and fleeing with stolen items while the Oscar-winning actor was travelling to promote his new racing thriller F1, US media reported. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told NBC News that a break-in took place at a residence in the Los Feliz neighbourhood around 10:30PM (0530 GMT), without officially confirming who owned the home. Police sources told NBC News and the Los Angeles Times that three suspects climbed over a front fence and broke in through the home's front window before ransacking the location and fleeing with some belongings. The value of the stolen items has not been disclosed. Pitt was not home at the time, as he has been on a global promotional tour for his new movie F1. The 61-year-old actor attended the film's premiere in London this week. The property was purchased by Pitt in 2023 for $5.5 million, according to Variety magazine. Pitt is among the most recent celebrities to have their Los Angeles homes burglarized. About $500,000 of jewellery was allegedly stolen from the home of French striker Olivier Giroud of MLS side Los Angeles FC in a burglary in February. That same month, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's residence was reportedly burglarized. On the work front, Pitt has been grabbing headlines with his Formula One film. Formula One is hoping the film cements the appeal of the Netflix docu-series Drive to Survive that has boosted Formula One's popularity and growth worldwide and particularly in the key US market. "I think there's this perception that Drive to Survive turned America onto F1 but I think there's just so many more people out there that don't know anything about it," said director Joseph Kosinski. "So there's a lot of potential still there."

Forget ‘Friends'. Jennifer Aniston wants to reboot this comedy classic

Jennifer Aniston isn't planning a return to Friends anytime soon but there is another past project she's seriously considering revisiting. In a new interview with People, the actress revealed that she and her former co-stars from Horrible Bosses have discussed bringing the chaotic comedy back. 'Oh my God, this literally came up the other day,' Aniston said, referring to the 2011 film and its 2014 sequel. 'Jason Bateman and I were talking about it, and Charlie Day has been talking about it a lot too.' The actress, now 56, says the idea of reuniting with the original cast to revisit those outrageous characters feels more timely than ever. 'The characters are hilarious, and we need comedy,' Aniston shared. 'I personally think comedy is a necessity. That's one we would have a really fun time going back to, seeing where those crazy cats are today.' While her role as Rachel Green in Friends remains iconic, Aniston has built a diverse career across film and television, including hits like Marley & Me, We're the Millers, and The Morning Show, where she currently stars and serves as producer. But there's still one thing left on her bucket list: Broadway. 'I definitely want to do a Broadway play,' she said, noting that the challenge lies in finding the right story and timing. In the meantime, fans can catch Aniston this fall when The Morning Show returns for season 4 on Apple TV+.
