It's hard to believe that DeVonta Smith enters year five as an Eagle. We've come a long way. His first reception doubled as his first TD vs. the Atlanta Falcons in the same Mercedes Benz Stadium in which he caught that pass from Tagovailoa years earlier. He set Philadelphia's franchise rookie record for receiving yards (916). He has won a Super Bowl, catching the aforementioned "Dagger" in his home state of Louisiana,
Fast forward to the present, and Smith, now one of the elder statesmen on offense, is adding a helping hand wherever he can. Recently, a conversation about contested catches with head coach Nick Sirianni led to the introduction of a new drill he once ran as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide while terrorizing the college football landscape en route to his second CFP National Championship and the Heisman Trophy.
Coach Sirianni spoke about this before the Eagles took the field for their fourth training camp practice since returning to the NovaCare Complex.
The next time you see Smith 'Moss' somebody. Remember, he works hard to be as good as and as talented as he is. As of this story's release, he's recovering from some tightness in his back, so he sat out of the aforementioned fourth training camp workout. Fear not. His absence was precautionary. All signs point to him being on the field and present for the regular-season Week 1 opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys.

Lone coach to leave Indiana football has a top quarterback leading UCLA offense, future IU opponent
BLOOMINGTON — Former Indiana football quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri is among the reasons there's a buzz building at UCLA. The 36 year old was hired by UCLA coach Deshaun Foster to rebuild an offense that ranked 16th out of 18 Big Ten teams last season in scoring offense (18.4 points per game), 14th in total offense (328.8 yards per game) and 18th in rushing offense (86.6 yards). While Sunseri is a first-time coordinator, he didn't have any issues winning over the Bruins' locker room. "We saw what happened at Indiana and he was the co-offensive coordinator there,' UCLA offensive lineman Garrett DiGiorgio said at Big Ten media days. 'Seeing those stats, I wasn't too worried about him coming over. They speak for themselves, but he's also come in with a strong will." The former Pitt quarterback jumped into coaching after a stint in the CFL. He was a fast riser in the profession thanks to a gig as a graduate assistant for Nick Saban at Alabama. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti gave Sunseri his first assistant coach job in 2021 as James Madison's quarterbacks coach. Foster's connection with Sunseri predates all of that. 'His dad (Sal) was my defensive line coach in Carolina, I've known Tino since he was 11 or 12,' Foster said. 'Seeing how he's evolved as a coach resonated, this is somebody I want to get on staff." Foster got to see the end result of that evolution when IU made the trip out to the Rose Bowl for a Week 3 game against the Bruins last season. The Hoosiers won 42-13 while putting up 430 total yards of offense. Former Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke threw for 307 yards (25 of 33) with four touchdowns. Rourke went on to put up 3,000-plus yards while setting IU's single-season record for passing touchdowns (29). Foster cited Sunseri's successful track record working with transfer quarterbacks from Todd Centeio (2022) to Jordan McCloud (2023) to Rourke as a key reason he targeted him to run UCLA's offense. 'That's what we are really excited about, that he's taking guys in one year and completely flipped it upside down,' Foster said. "We're looking forward to that." Sunseri will put those skills to the test this year working with Nico Iamaleava, a Tennessee transfer who will likely be one-and-done at the school given his NFL aspirations. The former Vols quarterback put up 2,974 total yards of offense last season (2,616 passing) with 22 total touchdowns while leading the team to the College Football Playoff. The Bruins completed spring practice under the assumption that Joey Aguilar was the team's presumed starter, but that plan went out the window the minute Iamaleava became available. 'Man, I wanted to go play for him the first day I met him,' Iamaleava said. 'I felt that comfortable, he just has that certain presence to him." Indiana fans will get an up-close look at the Sunseri-Iamaleava pairing Oct. 25 when UCLA visits Bloomington for the first time. "Coach Tino brings everything to the table,' Iamaleava said on Big Ten Network. 'I think he truly has an everything offense in his playbook and I'm excited to be a part of it.'

The Outland Trophy, which recognizes standout interior linemen, is celebrating its 80th season and unveiled its preseason watch list on Tuesday, and Fighting Irish offensive linemen Billy Schrauth and Aamil Wagner have both made the cut. This year's preseason list includes 16 offensive tackles, 15 guards, nine centers and 10 defensive tackles. It's an impressive list of the best lineman in college football, and quite the honor to be included for the two Notre Dame stars. ND's offensive line is expected to be one of the team's many strengths as it looks to make another deep run in the College Football Playoff this season. If Schrauth and Wagner play up to the Outland standard, they'll both be in the mix for the award and others as well. Mac McWilliams details his pass breakup of Johnny Wilson, one of his best highlights of his 1st Eagles training camp... Believe it or not, some teams, the Philadelphia Eagles included. The expectations for a rookie are set long before they step on an NFL playing surface. First and second-rounders are typically expected to contribute immediately, or relatively early. They say the third and fourth rounds generally are where you find your role players and the bodies who will serve as most of the meat of the roster. So, what does that mean for everyone in Round 5 and beyond? Truthfully, this isn't an exact science. Teams have found contributors on Day 3 of drafts, but there is also a greater risk. If an organization strikes gold, label it a bonus because few teams expect to find an All-Pro at the end of the draft. That's why Jordan Mailata, a seventh-rounder, is so special. He's an exception. So was Jason Kelce (Round 6). Mac McWilliams (Round 5) hopes to become a great Eagle in his own right. He's off to a good start. He has impressed at Eagles camp. Players met with those same media members once it wrapped. McWilliams was on deck. He didn't speak long, maybe five minutes at the most. He was, however, asked about one of his most impressive plays of camp, his breakup of an end zone toss while in coverage on second-year Bird, 2024 sixth-round draft choice Johnny Wilson. Keep in mind the fact that McWilliams stands at five feet ten and weighs 185 pounds. Wilson is a cool six feet six and tips the scales at 228. Talk about a size mismatch, one Wilson should have won. Philadelphia is hoping Wilson can use that size as a weapon and seize an opportunity at camp. So far, he hasn't. He had better turn the corner quickly because he isn't guaranteed a roster spot. McWilliams, on the other hand, has been impressive, not just in splash plays but on a day-in, day-out basis. Keep those eyes peeled. He has been seen in dime package sets as the fourth corner, and he is expected to assume the role of backup slot corner to Cooper DeJean. There is nothing significant to report yet, other than that, by the looks of things, he appears to be right on schedule.
