Bihar: PM Modi to flag off Vande Bharat Express from Patliputra to Gorakhpur, unveil Rs 9,300 crore projects
The event is being held at Patliputra Junction, where senior BJP leaders and local officials have gathered for the ceremonial flag-off.
Speaking to ANI, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'We are here to flag off the Vande Bharat train. The Prime Minister truly loves Bihar and is always concerned about its development. Every time he visits, projects worth thousands of crores are launched or inaugurated.'
In addition to the Vande Bharat Express, the Prime Minister's visit will also include the launch and foundation-laying of several urban and transport development projects in Bihar.
Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin told ANI that schemes worth over Rs 6,000 crore are being unveiled today, including the Patna-Gorakhpur Expressway and the inauguration of the state's largest sewage treatment plant under the Namami Gange initiative.
Calling these developments a 'major gift' for Bihar, Nabin added, 'These projects will significantly improve connectivity and infrastructure in the region. We are grateful to the Hon'ble Prime Minister.'
However, the visit sparked criticism from opposition leaders. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari alleged that such visits were timed for political advantage. 'The PM conducts visits and does inaugurations in a state when elections are approaching. This will continue till November,' he said.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'They are calling today a 'rain of lies'--but is the Vande Bharat train a lie? Are highways and sewer plants fiction? Development speaks for itself. Those who refuse to see it are the ones losing ground politically.'
Executive Director of Information and Publicity (EDIP) at the Railway Board, Dilip Kumar, told ANI, 'Vande Bharat Express, Namo Rapid Rail, and Amrit Bharat Express constitute the trinity of the modern transport system of Indian Railways, and to strengthen this trinity, the new Vande Bharat will start today. This train will be run between Patliputra and Gorakhpur stations and will cover the distance between both stations in 7 hours'
'This train goes on from places where the transportation system of Vande Bharat didn't exist... This makes it the first Vande Bharat in this area, and it is crucial since one section of society has been demanding this for a long time...,' he added.
The Prime Minister's visit is being closely watched as it comes months ahead of the crucial Bihar Assembly elections, where infrastructure and connectivity are expected to be key electoral issues. (ANI)

Tripura Chief Minister To Expand Cabinet Tomorrow: Report
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha would expand his council of ministers on July 3, sources said on Wednesday. Sources said that on the advice of the Chief Minister, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu would administer the oath of office and secrecy to the new minister at the Raj Bhavan. One probable name -- Kishore Barman -- is doing the rounds about the possible minister. BJP MLA Barman was elected in the 2023 Assembly polls from Nalchar constituency in Sepahijala district. As per the constitutional mandate, the size of the council of ministers is 12, including the Chief Minister. One ministerial berth has been lying vacant. The sources said that at least five BJP MLAs are the contenders for the ministerial berths. On March 8, 2023, the BJP and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) coalition government led by Saha came to power for the second consecutive term. The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), headed by former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, contested the 2023 Assembly polls separately but in March last year, after signing a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government, joined the BJP-IPFT coalition government, adding a new twist to Tripura politics. Accordingly, two TMP MLAs -- Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma -- were inducted into the ministry. The IPFT currently has one minister -- Sukla Charan Noatia -- in the 11-member council of the ministry. The BJP-IPFT alliance had retained power in Tripura by winning 33 seats in the 60-member Assembly. The TMP, which contested the Assembly elections in 2023 for the first time, won 13 seats of the 42 seats it contested, emerging as the second largest party after the BJP. The CPI-M won 11 seats in the elections while the Congress bagged three. The CPI-M-led Left Front and the Congress had a seat-sharing arrangement for the elections. The TMP became a political force in April 2021 after it wrested power in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The politically important TTAADC has jurisdiction over two-thirds of Tripura's 10,491 sq km area, and is home to over 1,21,6000 people, of which around 84 per cent are tribals.

Raut accuses NCP MLA of illegal mining in letter to CM
Pune: Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, alleging that NCP MLA Sunil Shelke and his family members carried out illegal mining at Maval tehsil's Ambale village and cheated the govt out of crores of rupees by not paying the royalty. Raut also alleged that Shelke, in connivance with some MIDC officials, made the govt acquire a piece of land unsuitable for industrial purposes because the mining activity was being carried out. "The valuation of Shelke's plot was Rs 73 lakh per acre. After acquiring that plot, the proposal of giving an alternative piece of land valued at Rs2.5 crore per acre as compensation is pending with the MIDC." Refuting the allegations, Shelke dared Raut to come out with evidence against him. Anurag Bende

Speeding SUV crashes into house injuring residents
Lucknow: A speeding SUV, allegedly with a BJP block chief sticker and an Uttarakhand number plate, rammed into a house in Santguru Ravidas Nagar late Tuesday leaving two residents injured and triggering a political row. The vehicle ploughed through a shop front and boundary wall around 1:50 am, crashing into the living quarters of Vijay and his wife, Gyanmati. The couple's shop and household items were severely damaged while Vijay and their son, Deepak, suffered minor injuries. The vehicle also hit and injured one of its passengers, but the remaining three occupants, including a woman, fled the scene, said police. The incident took place under the Hazratganj police station limits. SHO Vikram Singh said an FIR was registered based on a written complaint from Gyanmati. The vehicle was seized, and legal action is underway under BNS sections 281 (rash driving), 125(b) (causing damage), and 324(5) (causing hurt by dangerous means). "Four people, including the driver, have been booked," he added. Police also recovered liquor bottles and other intoxicants from the SUV. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was being driven recklessly at high speed. "There were three men and a woman inside the vehicle. All appeared intoxicated. One remained inside the vehicle with injuries while others managed to escape," a senior officer at the scene said. The Congress party accused the BJP of promoting a culture of impunity. "Beer bottles on the dashboard, drunk BJP men fleeing after wrecking a house—this is the true face of the ruling party," the UP Congress posted on X.
