Wearing a specialised headset that tracks blood flow in the brain, the astronauts participated in 'PhotonGrav', a European Space Agency (ESA) and Polish Space Agency (POLSA) experiment exploring whether brain signals alone could one day operate computers and spacecraft systems.
The headset uses near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to monitor attention levels and detect logical errors, capturing neural activity without any physical movement.
If successful, this research could revolutionise how astronauts interact with onboard systems — especially in high-stress or hands-free conditions — by turning thought into action.
While the crew kicked off the study on day four of their stay at the ISS, the project led by Slawosz Uznanski is expected to continue through their stint there. As space missions grow longer and more complex, projects like PhotonGrav could lay the groundwork for more seamless, intuitive interfaces — maybe even bringing science fiction a step closer to everyday use.

These insights may also translate to improved treatments for muscle-wasting conditions on Earth, including those linked to aging and immobility.
'Finally, the crew documented activities for the Astronaut Mental Health study, contributing to research on cognitive well-being in space.
This project can benefit others on Earth by developing remote technologies for diagnosing and treating mental disorders, particularly for individuals in isolated or challenging environments where access to mental health care is limited,' Axiom Space said.
An ultrasound scan was conducted as part of the 'Telemetric Health AI' study, which merges biometric data with mission analytics to better understand how spaceflight affects cardiovascular and balance systems. 'Using advanced data science, the project aims to enable smarter, real-time health monitoring for astronauts with potential applications for remote health care on Earth,' Axiom said.

UT admn finalises plan for critical care hospital in Manimajra
Chandigarh: After deciding against taking MC's land for the ambitious project of constructing a 50-bedded critical care hospital in Manimajra, the UT administration finally finalised a 2.01-acre plot for the first of its kind project. Construction plan of the project, which will come up at Pocket Number 14, Manimajra, has been finalised. The engineering department will float the tender to invite bids. The plan is to construct a building with three floors on 1,28,833 square feet covered area. The structure will comprise both the critical care block and the service or sarai block. Since the total plot area is 87,600 square feet, the Chandigarh administration allowed a 1.50 permissible FAR (Floor Area Ratio) for this project. The new critical care hospital will have facilities such as emergency triage, gynaecology emergency, point of care lab, isolation room, ultrasound room, plaster room, duty room, and DU room. It will also have dialysis, isolation ward, therapeutic diet, duty room, staff room, cafeteria, and kitchen. This building will have chemist shop, tuck shop, cafeteria, kitchen, etc. A basement parking has been planned to prevent issues. A few areas in the basement will also be used for services. The ground, first, second, and third floors of the building will have all the required facilities with modern technologies for treatment of patients. In-depth consultations were held with the UT health department during the planning stage. Each medical aspect related to the project was thoroughly discussed and the floor-wise plan was finalised. The critical care hospital project will be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). Since Manimajra is a densely populated area, the project aims at facilitating a large number of people, mainly from Manimajra, Maulijagran, and adjoining areas. However, the MC rejected the land-swap proposal and sought money against the land. Thereafter, the Chandigarh administration earmarked a new plot of land for the project instead of taking MC's land. Since the MC's land is situated adjacent to the Manimajra Civil Hospital, UT previously found the MC's land more suitable for the critical care centre project. However, since the MC refused the swap, the project is now coming up at another location in Manimajra, decided by the Chandigarh administration. Advocate wins over Rs 4 lakh after health insurer rejects claim
Bengaluru: Denied coverage for a major surgery despite holding a health insurance policy, a senior advocate moved a consumer court, which recently directed the insurer to pay him over Rs 4 lakh for rejecting his claim on "unjustifiable grounds". It all began when Kiran S Javali, 65, bought Tata AIG's Medicare policy in Feb 2022 after an agent assured him that the plan was specifically designed for senior citizens and did not require pre-policy medical tests. He paid a premium of Rs 84,510, and the new policy took effect from Feb 14, 2022. However, within three months, Javali began experiencing severe pain and difficulty in urination. The Vasanthnagar resident was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and, for the first time, hypertension. He underwent surgery at Manipal Hospital in May 2022. When Javali applied for a claim for cashless treatment, he was left in shock after it was denied by the insurer. The company cited non-disclosure of pre-existing conditions—specifically LUTS and hypertension—as the reason for the denial. In its defence, Tata AIG argued that Javali had a history of these health issues for four years, which he allegedly failed to disclose while signing the proposal form. The company cited policy clauses that require full disclosure of material facts, maintaining that the insurance contract operates on the principle of utmost good faith. The insurer also distanced itself from the agent's verbal assurances, contending that such statements are not binding on the company and that the responsibility to declare medical history lies entirely with the applicant. Tata AIG further pointed out that Javali did not undergo a pre-policy medical examination, which, according to them, should have been a standard requirement given his age. The commission observed that Javali was unaware of his medical conditions at the time of applying for the policy and faulted the insurer for not conducting pre-policy medical tests, despite the complainant being a senior citizen. The commission emphasised the need for transparency in the insurance industry, stating, "The contract of insurance is based on utmost good faith." The commission held Tata AIG guilty of deficiency in service and unfair trade practices. The commission, on June 10, 2025, ordered the insurer to reimburse Rs 4 lakh with 6% interest from the date of legal notice till realisation, Rs 10,000 in compensation for mental agony and litigation costs. The insurer has been given 45 days to comply, failing which it will have to pay additional interest at the rate of 8% per annum.
