LSG announce Bharat Arun as bowling coach

The Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday announced Bharat Arun as their new bowling coach. Arun, who has earned plaudits for his work with the Indian team as a bowling coach in the staff led by Ravi Shastri from 2017 to 2021, joins LSG after a succesfull stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders. 'It's an honour to join the Lucknow Super Giants, a franchise that reflects professionalism, ambition, and vision at every level,' the 62-year-old said in a statement on the franchise's official website. 'My conversations with Dr. Sanjiv Goenka and the management were incredibly energizing – there is a clear intent to invest in young Indian talent and build a long-term legacy. 'What excites me most is the vision for long-term development. LSG has invested in a young, talented, and dynamic group of Indian fast bowlers – Akash deep, Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Akash Singh – and I see immense potential in each of them. My mission is to help shape them into a cohesive, fearless, and tactically sharp pace unit that can challenge the best batting line-ups in the world.' One of the best in the business. He is now a Super Giant ?? — Lucknow Super Giants (@LucknowIPL) July 30, 2025 Arun had been with KKR in the same role for four years. He was part of the coaching staff that powered the team to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title in more than a decade in 2024. However, this was followed by a disappointing eighth-placed finish last season, in which their decision to let go of Shreyas Iyer came under sharp criticism. KKR are rejigging their coaching staff with Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo all set to call the shots. Hence Chandrakant Pandit and Arun, the two veterans, left the team. LSG are yet to announce if they will retain former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan and former Australia opener Justin Langer as mentor and head coach respectively. Both their contracts are set to end before the start of the 2026 season.

photoDetails english 2939155 Updated:Jul 30, 2025, 08:08 PM IST High Stakes Involved 1 / 8 The Indian Premier League is a world of intense pressure and constant evolution, where success is fleeting and expectations are sky-high. As franchises relentlessly seek the perfect winning formula, the coaching staff often finds itself under immense scrutiny. With the massive IPL 2026 mega-auctions on the horizon, the stakes are even higher, promising significant changes. Chandrakant Pandit Resigns from KKR 2 / 8 In a significant development, Chandrakant Pandit has resigned as the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite leading KKR to the IPL 2024 title, a disappointing eighth-place finish in IPL 2025 led to his departure. This move highlights the unforgiving nature of the league, where past glories don't guarantee future security, especially with a major squad overhaul looming. Justin Langer (Lucknow Super Giants - Head Coach) 3 / 8 Justin Langer finds his position as LSG's head coach under scrutiny after their seventh-place finish in IPL 2025. Reports suggest his future is uncertain, particularly with the recent appointment of Bharat Arun as the new bowling coach. LSG's management might be looking for a fresh approach to turn their fortunes around before the mega-auction. They will be focusing on an All India coaching setup. Daniel Vettori (Sunrisers Hyderabad - Head Coach) 4 / 8 Daniel Vettori oversaw SRH's IPL 2025 campaign, where they finished sixth and missed the playoffs. Despite his efforts, the team's inconsistent performances put his role in question. Franchises often seek a complete reset when results don't align with expectations, making a coaching change a likely first step before rebuilding the squad. Kumar Sangakkara (Rajasthan Royals - Director of Cricket & Head Coach) 5 / 8 Kumar Sangakkara, in his dual role for Rajasthan Royals, has seen the team struggle for consistent success, finishing a disappointing ninth in IPL 2025. With a mega-auction on the horizon, the Royals' management might opt for a new strategic direction. This could mean a change at the top to optimize their squad building and on-field performance. Vikram Rathour (Rajasthan Royals - Batting Coach) 6 / 8 As Rajasthan Royals' batting coach, Vikram Rathour is also under pressure following the team's poor IPL 2025 showing. While not the head coach, specialist coaches are often part of a broader review process. The franchise's desire to rebuild and improve performance ahead of the IPL 2026 mega-auction could lead to changes across the entire coaching staff. Paras Mhambrey (Mumbai Indians - Bowling Coach) 7 / 8 Paras Mhambrey, Mumbai Indians' bowling coach, is another key support staff member whose position could be impacted. MI reached the playoffs in IPL 2025 but fell short of the final, a rare occurrence for the five-time champions. In the high-stakes IPL environment, even successful franchises scrutinize all aspects of their setup for a fresh approach. IPL 2026 Auctions: Anything Can Happen! 8 / 8 The IPL 2026 mega-auctions are set to be a watershed moment, promising significant shifts in team compositions and strategies. Coaching changes are often the first domino to fall as franchises prepare for a fresh start. With so many prominent names under pressure, the lead-up to the next season is bound to be filled with drama and anticipation.

After Chandrakant Pandit, Another High-Profile Name Leaves Kolkata Knight Riders: Report

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has been brought on board by Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) as their new bowling coach ahead of 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sources tracking the developments have confirmed to IANS that Arun has joined LSG, who finished at seventh place in IPL 2025. 'Yes, it's confirmed that Arun is onboard LSG as their new bowling coach. LSG had been looking around for a world-class fast-bowling coach within Indian cricketing circles once IPL 2025 was done and they have finally got their wish,' further said sources on Wednesday. IANS has reached out to Arun for a comment on this, but didn't get a reply from him at the time of publishing. Arun moving on to LSG, captained by India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, also means his four-year stint as the bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has come to an end. He had joined KKR ahead of 2022 season, where he was a member of the franchise's 2024 IPL-winning team. Arun leaving KKR comes just a day after the franchise parted ways with their head coach Chandrakant Pandit. IANS understands that apart from Arun joining the LSG coaching staff, there's doubts on future of head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan. 'It is understood that Langer could be out of the franchise, while talks with Zaheer are still happening,' added sources. Arun had two stints with the Indian team as their bowling coach - from 2014 to 2015, and from 2017 to 2021 T20 World Cup, where he played a huge role in shaping the fast-bowling revolution in the men's team. He was part of the India team that won the Under-19 World Cup in Australia in 2012, and also served as coach of Tamil Nadu, Bengal and Hyderabad teams in the domestic cricket circuit. Arun also spent time as bowling coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL from 2015 to 2017.
