FM Sitharaman highlights India's reforms, investment opportunities in FFD4 Summit in Spain

, currently on an official visit to Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, delivered a strong pitch for mobilising private capital for sustainable development at the International Business Forum Leadership Summit titled "From FFD4 Outcome to Implementation: Unlocking the Potential of Private Capital for Sustainable Development" in Seville, Spain.
Addressing global leaders and investors, Sitharaman highlighted that while private investment has shown encouraging growth in recent years, thanks to a rise in innovative financial instruments and traditional sources, much more needs to be done.
In a social media post, the minister said, "Private capital mobilisation remains significantly below what is required, with low and middle-income countries receiving a disproportionately small share. This underscores the urgent need for targeted efforts to overcome investment barriers and better align financial flows with development priorities."

India, she noted, has taken significant steps to overcome these challenges. Sitharaman stated, "India has addressed this challenge by establishing independent regulators, implementing transparent bidding processes, standardising contracts, and improving the

. These reforms have significantly enhanced investor confidence and reduced transaction costs."

The Finance Minister also highlighted the role of strong domestic financial systems. India has focused on strengthening its banking sector and deepening capital markets to support large-scale financing in infrastructure and industry.
She said India's regulatory frameworks now better balance investor protection with innovation and flexibility, creating an enabling environment for long-term investment.

One of the standout examples presented by Sitharaman was India's transformation in the renewable energy sector. From just 2.8 GW of solar energy installed in 2014, India has expanded its capacity to over 110 GW.
This success, she said, "was enabled by clear national targets, streamlined procurement, and government-backed risk mitigation. This model attracted institutional investors, including pension and sovereign wealth funds."
On the sidelines of the FFD4 Summit, Sitharaman also held bilateral meetings with various global leaders.
She met Shane Reti, New Zealand's Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Universities, Statistics, and Pacific Peoples. Both ministers discussed cooperation in defence, education, technology, and agriculture. The two leaders reaffirmed the shared democratic values and strong people-to-people ties between India and New Zealand.
Sitharaman also spoke about India's growing International Financial Services Centre at GIFT City and highlighted investment opportunities in banking, bullion exchange, capital markets, the FinTech ecosystem, insurance, and reinsurance.
She also noted the importance of educational ties, with many Indian students pursuing higher education in New Zealand.
The Finance Minister also held talks with Reem Alabali-Radovan, Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Sitharaman congratulated her on her new role and discussed cooperation under the India-Germany Green and Sustainable Development Partnership.
The discussions included collaboration in areas such as green energy, urban mobility, sustainable urban development, and ecological livelihoods. Minister Alabali-Radovan expressed interest in deepening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation with India.
Sitharaman is leading an Indian delegation from the Department of Economic Affairs during this official trip from June 30 to July 5.
Her itinerary includes a visit to Lisbon, Portugal, where she will hold a bilateral meeting with the Portuguese Finance Minister and interact with the Indian diaspora and investors. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she will address the 10th Annual Meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB) as India's Governor and also participate in the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting.
She is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with her counterparts from Brazil, China, Indonesia, and Russia. (ANI)

Amarnath Yatra Begins: State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) has set up a permanent disaster management complex at Baltal, Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir for pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra. This Disaster Management and Yatri Niwas Complex will become operational on Friday, the company said in a statement. ONGC is developing these complexes at four key locations – Baltal, Nunwan, Bijbehara, and Sidhra – in Jammu and Kashmir, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra from Jammu on July 2. The first batch of pilgrims set off from Lakhanpur to the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu amid tight security arrangements, marking the official start of the Amarnath Yatra 2025. The Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu serves as the primary base camp for pilgrims from across the country before they proceed to the cave shrine of Amarnath nestled in the majestic Himalayas of South Kashmir. "The Baltal Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management Complex, spread across 6,315 square metres, is now fully operational and includes a Yatri Niwas, VIP guest house, security infrastructure, and disaster-response facilities," an ONGC spokesperson said. The 38-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high shrine will commence on July 3 from the Valley via the twin tracks—the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter 14-kilometre but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The yatra will conclude on August 9. The ONGC spokesperson added that the Baltal facility will be formally inaugurated on July 4 by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in the presence of ONGC Chairman and CEO Arun Kumar Singh. The facilities are currently being set up at Nunwan in Anantnag district, measuring 8,500 square metres, and at Bijbehara in Anantnag (7,640 sq m). Both sites are expected to be completed by September 2025, he said. The Sidhra complex in Jammu, designed to serve as a vital hub for boarding, emergency management, and logistical coordination, is targeted for completion by September 2026. These facilities will be operated by the Amarnath Shrine Board under the Jammu and Kashmir government, the spokesperson said, adding that it will provide safe lodging, sanitation, and emergency support to people undertaking the Amarnath Yatra, adding that over five lakh people undertake it every year. This permanent infrastructure will also benefit the local population throughout the year, the spokesperson added. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday asserted that the Narendra Modi government will not hesitate to eliminate terrorists, wherever they are, and that no distinction will be made between masterminds and the regimes which sponsor them. The former BJP president's stern message to Pakistan , without mentioning the neighbouring country by name, came in his address to the party's state executive meeting in Bihar, where assembly elections are due this year. Pharma graduates from a private university in Noida – and recovered 3.7 kg of Tramadol tablets from their possession. The duo confessed to operating a vendor profile on a major Indian B2B platform, from where they sold pharmaceutical pills to clients across US, Europe, and Australia. Further investigation led to the arrest of a key associate from Mayur Vihar in Delhi, who was in touch with a person from Udupi, Karnataka for organising bulk orders to be shipped to the US. The narcotics agency uncovered data on 50 international consignments, including: 29 packages to the US, 18 to Australia, one each to Estonia, Spain and Switzerland, as per the statement. This information was shared with global counterparts and Interpol, leading to the identification and arrest of a bulk re-shipper and money launderer in Alabama in the US by the US DEA, along with a massive haul of controlled medicines. The criminal drug syndicate operated on encrypted communication platforms like Telegram, relied on cryptocurrency payments, PayPal, Western Union and used anonymous international drop shippers to evade detection. Two more Indian nationals from New Delhi and Jaipur, who handled logistics and supply-side operations. Crackdowns In US, Australia After receiving the information from the NCB, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (US DEA) apprehended Joey Hall, a major re-shipper and a key player in the drug network, after a coordinated operation, leading to the seizure of over 17,000 tablets of controlled medication. The kingpin of the operation has been identified and located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the NCB is working actively with UAE authorities. Additionally, the existence of a clandestine pill manufacturing facility in Australia, directly linked to the syndicate, was revealed and dismantled. Authorities also uncovered multiple cryptocurrency wallets and active parcels linked to the syndicate, indicating a sophisticated and tech-enabled trafficking operation. An Indian-American individual identified as a key money launderer in the network is now facing indictment in the US, as per the statement. The DEA successfully intercepted five parcels, resulting in the recovery of approximately 700 grams of Zolpidem tablets, a commonly misused sedative. More members of this syndicate have been identified and further actions are underway.
