Australia completed a historic sweep of their Caribbean tour, defeating West Indies by three wickets in the final Twenty20 international cricket match on Monday, achieving an unprecedented 8-0 record across all formats.
The victory marked Australia's first-ever sweep of a five-game T20 series, becoming only the second team to accomplish this feat at the elite level after India's success against New Zealand in 2019-20.
Australia won the toss for the eighth consecutive time and elected to field first, restricting West Indies to 170 runs in 19.4 overs. Shimron Hetmyer scored 52 from 31 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford contributed 35 off 17 deliveries.
Ben Dwarshuis led the Australian bowling attack with figures of 3-41, supported by Nathan Ellis who took 2-32. Adam Zampa marked his 100th T20 international with 1-20.
"To be honest, I didn't expect 5-0," Australia captain
Mitchell Marsh
said. "It was something we spoke about after the fourth game. We knew no Australian team had done it. It'll be something we're very proud of. Across the board over the five games, we played some really good cricket."

Australia chased down the target, reaching 173-7 with three overs remaining. Mitchell Owen (37 off 17) and
Cameron Green
(32 off 18) stabilised the innings with a crucial 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket, while Aaron Hardie remained unbeaten on 28.
The West Indies bowlers initially put Australia under pressure, with Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph claiming two wickets each in the powerplay. Holder dismissed Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck and Josh Inglis for 10 runs.
Joseph removed Marsh (14) and Tim David (30 off 12) as Australia struggled at 60-4 in the fifth over. Owen and Green then took control with aggressive batting, including a memorable six by Owen that landed on a pavilion roof.
Akeal Hosein's late introduction to the bowling attack proved effective as he claimed 3-17, dismissing Owen, Green, and Dwarshuis.
"A lot of guys had great series," said Green, who was named Player of the Series.
"We've got about half a team who're allrounders. That's the beauty of what we're trying to build here. A lot of depth."
Green further added: "You always want to win every game you can. T20 can be a bit of a lottery at times, so to build a bit of consistency is important. Good signs."
The series victory included three previous dominant performances: a three-wicket win in the opener, an eight-wicket victory in Jamaica that marked Andre Russell's final match for West Indies, and a win highlighted by Tim David's 37-ball century in St.
Kitts.
Australia's upcoming schedule includes a T20 series against South Africa next month, while West Indies will face Pakistan in a series comprising three T20s and three one-day internationals.

1st Time In 93 Years: Mohammed Siraj Helps India Script Dramatic Record At The Oval

London: Mohammed Siraj's strong-hearted effort across five Tests reflected in his numbers as well, returning with 23 wickets to go equal with Jasprit Bumrah as an Indian bowler with most wickets in a Test series in England. Bumrah achieved the feat during the 2021-22 series to go past Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19). Siraj is also the highest wicket-taker of the newly-minted Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which ended with a 2-2 verdict after India's epic six-run win win at the Oval here on Monday, followed by England's Josh Tongue (19). Beyond the individual achievements, India also set some team records during the drawn five-match series. Narrowest win The six-run win that they scored at the Oval was India's smallest in terms of runs in Test cricket, surpassing the 13-run victory that they had achieved against Australia at Mumbai in 2004. Meanwhile, India made a total of 3,809 runs in this series, which is the most ever scored by a team in a five-match Test series. Winless streak India have also managed to extend England's winless streak in Test rubbers against them to four dating back to 2018. This is England's second longest barren run in the traditional format after they went winless in five series between 1996 and 2011. Root equals Gavaskar Senior England batter Joe Root's 104 in the second innings of the Oval Test was his 13th hundred against India in Tests and 16th overall, going equal with Australian Steve Smith for the most number of centuries against India in international cricket. Root also equalled batting legend Sunil Gavaskar's record of making 13 hundreds against the West Indies, and now he has only Don Bradman (19 hundreds vs England) ahead of him for most Test hundreds against a single nation. Root also became the first batter to score 6000 runs in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC). The Gill effect India skipper Shubman Gill had a windfall series, scoring 754 runs, along the way overcoming two towering batters from the yore — Gavaskar and former England captain Graham Gooch. Of course, Gill is the highest run-getter in the series. The aggregate saw the elegant right-hander going past Gavaskar's tally of 732 runs to become the Indian captain with most runs in a Test series. Gill also broke Gooch's 35-year-old record (752 runs) for most runs in a Test series between India and England.

IND vs ENG: 'Sab sikhaana padta hai bowling ko chhod ke': Arshdeep Singh trolls Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj celebrates after winning the match with Shubman Gill on day five of the 5th Test (Photo by) Moments after India's thrilling six-run win at The Oval to level the five-Test series 2-2, Mohammed Siraj found himself in the middle of a different kind of challenge, but this time, it was off the field. In a video shared by the BCCI, pacer Arshdeep Singh is seen hilariously forcing Siraj into filming a two-second Instagram reel, asking him to say the popular catchphrase, 'Pressure? What pressure?' — a line made famous by football legend Alan Shearer during the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament. The quote has since been used widely by athletes across sports. (Is it for a post or a story?)' only for Arshdeep to quip back, ' Abey, reel seedha, 2 second ki (It's just a simple reel, two seconds long).' Laughing at his teammate's hesitation, Arshdeep added, 'Sab sikhana padta hai, bowling ko chhodke (We have to teach him everything except bowling).' Eventually, Siraj obliged and completed the reel to cheers from the team. ‘You go through this morning and England did panic..: Michael Vaughan on ENG losing the plot at Oval

With the England team suffering only their tenth defeat in 41 Tests under head coach Brendon McCullum since May 2022 with the six-run loss against India in the fifth and final Test at The Oval on Monday, it also meant that the England team only drew a series for the fourth time since 2022. With the hosts placed at 339 for 6 at the start of the fifth day's play, Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna made sure that the Shubman Gill led Indian team won the fifth Test by six runs and helped India to tie the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. Former England captain Michael Vaughan shared how a fit Ben Stokes would have taken England home if he was playing and how he sees the final day's play as the England team panicking. 'This morning, Ben Stokes in that team, England would've won this Test match. He plays such a big role in this team, the mentality. You go through this morning and England did panic. They just needed one partnership. They panicked in the way that they can with the way that they play, they play with a huge amount of aggressiveness. Yesterday afternoon, the Harry Brook dismissal did cause that collapse, but it's the way England play,' Vaughan told BBC's Test Match Special. Prior to Brendon McCullum taking over as England head coach, England had just one win from their previous 17 Tests. The England team had won 23 out of the 36 Tests with McCullum as head coach since 2022 and had come into the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a win against Zimbabwe in the one-off Test in May. Prior to the final Test at The Oval, England captain Ben Stokes was ruled out of the series due to a torn shoulder with pacers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse being rested for the final Test. With England set to play the Ashes against Australia in Australia later this year, Vaughan sees this series as a series helping the England team set more pieces in place. 'It's been a tremendous five matches for England. You've got to be realistic, this week they were down to 10 men, lost one of their bowlers early, and not got Ben Stokes. You're looking at the team going to Australia and I think there's more pieces in place. We'll arrive in Perth for that first Test and know the top seven. It's just a matter of the bowling attack and getting that right. Clearly Ben Stokes is going to have to get fit. With Ben Stokes in the England side they can beat anybody. Without him, they can lose to anybody,' Vaughan added. England were looking on course towards a historic win with Harry Brook and Joe Root taking England to 301 for 3 on the fourth day before Brook was caught by Mohammed Siraj off the bowling of Akash Deep. Prior to that, Brook had scored 118 runs off 98 balls and his dismissal meant that England lost two more wickets including Joe Root before the end of the day's play. Vaughan was of the view that Brook needs to dig in if a similar situation arises in the Ashes. '(Harry) Brook had that thought process that he wanted to hit 30 or 40 quick runs. What Harry needs to learn is in an Ashes series, in a similar situation, just win. I love the way he plays, his approach. At times, he's a genius. He plays the game in a fashion not many have ever played. I don't want to take away from his positivity and flamboyance. But in Sydney, if England are 2-1 up, dig in Harry,' Vaughan concluded.
