Australia come close to matching India's dominance with 8-0 whitewash in West Indies

Australian cricket team blanked West Indies 3-0 in the Test series and 5-0 in the T20I series. (Image: X/CricketComAU) Australia completed a historic sweep of their Caribbean tour, defeating West Indies by three wickets in the final Twenty20 international cricket match on Monday, achieving an unprecedented 8-0 record across all formats. The victory marked Australia's first-ever sweep of a five-game T20 series, becoming only the second team to accomplish this feat at the elite level after India's success against New Zealand in 2019-20. Australia won the toss for the eighth consecutive time and elected to field first, restricting West Indies to 170 runs in 19.4 overs. Shimron Hetmyer scored 52 from 31 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford contributed 35 off 17 deliveries. Ben Dwarshuis led the Australian bowling attack with figures of 3-41, supported by Nathan Ellis who took 2-32. Adam Zampa marked his 100th T20 international with 1-20. "To be honest, I didn't expect 5-0," Australia captain Mitchell Marsh said. "It was something we spoke about after the fourth game. We knew no Australian team had done it. It'll be something we're very proud of. Across the board over the five games, we played some really good cricket." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo Australia chased down the target, reaching 173-7 with three overs remaining. Mitchell Owen (37 off 17) and Cameron Green (32 off 18) stabilised the innings with a crucial 63-run partnership for the fifth wicket, while Aaron Hardie remained unbeaten on 28. The West Indies bowlers initially put Australia under pressure, with Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph claiming two wickets each in the powerplay. Holder dismissed Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck and Josh Inglis for 10 runs. Joseph removed Marsh (14) and Tim David (30 off 12) as Australia struggled at 60-4 in the fifth over. Owen and Green then took control with aggressive batting, including a memorable six by Owen that landed on a pavilion roof. Akeal Hosein's late introduction to the bowling attack proved effective as he claimed 3-17, dismissing Owen, Green, and Dwarshuis. "A lot of guys had great series," said Green, who was named Player of the Series. "We've got about half a team who're allrounders. That's the beauty of what we're trying to build here. A lot of depth." Green further added: "You always want to win every game you can. T20 can be a bit of a lottery at times, so to build a bit of consistency is important. Good signs." The series victory included three previous dominant performances: a three-wicket win in the opener, an eight-wicket victory in Jamaica that marked Andre Russell's final match for West Indies, and a win highlighted by Tim David's 37-ball century in St. Kitts. Australia's upcoming schedule includes a T20 series against South Africa next month, while West Indies will face Pakistan in a series comprising three T20s and three one-day internationals. Washington Sundar's father hits out at selectors: 'One failure and he's dropped'

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - JULY 27: India batsman Washington Sundar celebrates his century during day five of the 4th Test Match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford on July 27, 2025 in Manchester, England. (Photo by) All-rounder Washington Sundar has drawn a lot of praise after helping Team India pull off a crucial draw in the fourth Test against England, stitching an unbeaten 203-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja on Day 5 at the Old Trafford. Sundar registered his maiden century in international cricket, scoring an unbeaten 101 off 206 balls in a knock comprising nine fours and a six. The Tamil Nadu cricketer's father M Sundar expressed his happiness following his son's match saving but also expressed concerns over people forgetting his performances. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Washington has been doing very well consistently. However, people tend to avoid and forget his performances. Other players get regular chances, only my son doesn't get them. Washington should consistently bat at number five like he did in the second innings of the fourth Test and get five to ten straight chances. My son was surprisingly not picked for the first Test against England. The selectors should watch his performances," said the cricketer's father M Sundar in an exclusive interaction with Gautam Gambhir fiery press conference: Slams critics, big update on Jasprit Bumrah, Karun vs Sai "My son gets dropped even if he fails in just one or two matches. It is not fair. Washington scored an unbeaten 85 on a rank turner in Chennai against England back in 2021 and 96* against the same opposition in Ahmedabad during the same year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Undo He would have been dropped even if those two knocks had ended up in centuries. Has this kind of an approach been maintained for any other Indian cricketer? He has become very strong after all this and the result is the performance which people are witnessing now," he added. Washington father further highlighted Washington's performances during the 2017/18 Nidahas Trophy, where he was named the Player of the Series, helping India lift the trophy. Poll Should Washington Sundar be given more consistent opportunities to play for the national team? Yes, absolutely No, he needs to earn it Maybe, depending on future performances "My son was very economical despite it being his first overseas tour. He was dropped for 11 straight matches by RCB in the next edition of the IPL, despite his quality performances. Can you imagine his mentality? Washington scored a 14-ball 40 in his first match for SRH during the IPL 2022 season. He was sent at number six in the next match," he said. "Even his current team (GT) don't give him regular chances. He showcased his calibre in the IPL 2025 Eliminator against Mumbai Indians (MI), smashing 48 off 24 balls. Look at the way Yashasvi Jaiswal has been backed by RR. Washington hasn't been able to enjoy a consistent run even in case of domestic cricket," added Sundar's father. Clean sweep as Ireland celebrate T20 International series success

THE IRELAND WOMEN'S cricket team completed a clean sweep in their T20I series against Zimbabwe with another dominant performance in Dublin. Ireland clinched the series last night, and made it 3-0 today at Pembroke Cricket Club. Advertisement The match began with Ireland winning the toss and choosing to bat first with a new opening pair out in the middle, Amy Hunter and Rebecca Stokell. The openers put on 96 for the first wicket as both batters proved very effective in the powerplay. Ireland posted 179-4 with Hunter (59) and Stokell (41) the main aggressors, while Orla Prendergast in particular did some late damage thanks to her 24* off 9 balls batting at number six in a reconfigured batting line up. Amy Hunter, who was dropped twice during her innings, also managed to pass 2,000 runs across formats for her country. In response, Zimbabwe managed just 129-7 from their 20 overs, giving Ireland a 50-run victory and a series clean sweep. Ava Canning (2-18) and Sophie MacMahon (2-21) were the pick of the Irish bowlers, while two run outs also proved crucial in maintaining pressure with the ball. Hunter received the Player of the Match award for her half century while captain Gaby Lewis claimed the Player of the Series accolade for her 154 runs at a strike rate of 155.56 across just the two innings having not batted in the third T20I.

Girls in Green complete series whitewash with easy T20 win over Zimbabwe at Sydney Parade

After two single-figure scores, Hunter set the tone for the Girls in Green with 59 from 40 balls, including nine fours and a maximum, to lay the foundations for an imposing total of 180-4. Rebecca Stokell, given the chance to open, added 96 with Hunter and looked set for a half-century of her own before she was run out for 45 from 28 but the momentum continued with lively cameos from Louise Little and Orla Prendergast. The total was well beyond Zimbabwe's capabilities and skipper Gaby Lewis was able to juggle seven bowlers as the tourists were restricted to 129-7. Ava Canning and Sophie MacMahon claimed two wickets each, leg-spinner Cara Murray added another to take her haul to seven from the three games and there were two run-outs. Lewis didn't bat or bowl but was still voted Player of the Series for her 67 and 87 in the first two games. 'It was great to watch from the sidelines but it felt so weird because I can't remember the last time I didn't open the batting for Ireland,' Lewis said. 'Everyone who comes in is really pushing for a starting spot and it's great to see the depth we're building in the squad, and it's only going to get better.' After extending their unbeaten record against Zimbabwe to 10 games in T20s, Ireland will look to follow up with a series win in Belfast when the sides meet for two one-day internationals over the weekend.

WATCH: Harmanpreet's heartwarming gesture, shares POTM Trophy with Kranti Gaud for her six-wicket haul after series win

After India women beat England women by 13 runs in the third and final ODI at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday to win the three-match ODI series 2-1, the star of the match, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, was named the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series. But it was her sweet gesture of sharing her POTM trophy with young Kranti Gaud that is being praised. 'I have got the player of the match. I want to share it with Kranti because she bowled one of the best spells of her career. I think it's a great achievement as a bowler. For an Indian team, for such fast bowlers, we have been dying for that. She has brought the experience from WPL and domestic and is executing herself here. I think she deserves to share this. I am really happy for this ball,' Harmanpreet said in a video shared by BCCI on X. Kranti Gaud, the 21-year-old pacer, was clinical with the ball for India and picked six wickets, helping India win the match and seal the series. Earlier, it was all Harmanpreet's show in the first innings, who recorded her 7th ODI ton in just 82 balls, taking India to a total of 318 which eventually proved enough. She also crossed 4000 ODI runs in the process. From Captain with lots of heart and love ❤️ A special gesture for a special spell 👌👌 Captain @ImHarmanpreet shares her Player of the Match award with Kranti Gaud and presents her with a signed ball & a special message ✍️#TeamIndia | #ENGvIND — BCCI Women (@BCCIWomen) July 23, 2025 'Great moment for all of us. Happy with the way we played throughout the series,' said Harmanpreet after the match. 'We are giving our best on the field and gelling well as a team. They have been great on and off the field, whenever they get an opportunity, they want to grab it with both hands and I am happy that we are getting to see the results now,' she added. Apart from Kranti Gaud, another youngster, left-arm spinner Shree Charani has been grabbing eyeballs with her consistent performance. 'Both (Shree Charani and Kranti Goud) of them got good experience in WPL and that is where we thought that if we give them an opportunity, they will do well for the country as well. This series win means a lot to us. Credit goes to our fielding coach (Munish Bali), he has been working really hard,' added India captain.
