Edinburgh 'burger king' down on his Lux after admitting domestic abuse charge
Galpin, 24, owner of two Luxford Burgers restaurants, and who claims to run a portfolio of restaurants with an annual turnover of £6 million, appeared at the city's sheriff court and admitted to a charge under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018.
Galpin had been in a six-month relationship with the woman but when she fell pregnant in January 2023 it led to a bust-up. He pressured her to have an abortion but she would not consent to that, leading to confrontation and arguments.
The shame-faced Edinburgh University graduate, who was championed as an upcoming business star by Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and self-promotes his alleged business successes, hid behind an umbrella as he left the court in Chambers Street.

Ironically, in March, Galpin's Luxford Burgers chain boasted about supporting International Women's Day by donating 50p on each sale of a specific burger to the charity Strut Safe, which operates a volunteer support line which 'keeps women and marginalized people safe'. Galpin said at the time: 'It is so important all year round, but especially on International Women's Day, that we all do our best to try to change the world for the better.'
Procurator fiscal Peter Finnon told the court that between 1 March 2023 and 31 October 2024 at 1a Hatton Lane, Warriston, and elsewhere, Galpin had engaged in a course of behaviour which was abusive to his ex-partner.

After one row over the pregnancy, Galpin left the Warriston home and his partner followed him to his car. While she was in the passenger seat he drove off with the door open, before it struck a post and the door closed. Galpin is said to have gone to the passenger door and tried to pull her from the vehicle, causing bruising to her arm.
The couple rekindled the relationship in September 2023 after which Galpin is said to have encouraged the woman to make representations to the court to drop bail conditions which were in place.
The charge – admitted by Galpin – states that he did repeatedly act in an aggressive manner, and encourage her to make representations in support of removal of bail conditions. The charge states that on one occasion, he seized her by the body, pulled her and caused her to fall on a bed, and that he repeatedly contacted her and made offensive remarks.
One of the offensive remarks stood out, said Fiscal Peter Finnon. It was said that his ex-partner had health issues and while on a call to her doctor to seek help, Galpin contacted her with the message: 'Ask if you can get medication for malicious parent syndrome'.
Following the final break up of the relationship in July 2024, Galpin is said to have engaged in what can only be called an 'extreme form' of behaviour which included repeatedly phoning and messaging his ex-partner at all hours of the day.
Defence agent Matt Nicholson said that Galpin had found himself in a 'very fraught and emotional situation and that he had dealt with it badly.' Galpin has no previous convictions and Mr Nicholson said that as the owner of two restaurants, he had a good income, and if appropriate could pay a financial penalty.
However, Sheriff John Cook called for social inquiry reports and ordered Galpin, of Salvesen Crescent, Edinburgh, to return to court on 1 August for sentencing.
The Edinburgh Reporter revealed in February how Galpin and Luxford Burgers were feted by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce as an exemplary business and he was shortlisted for the prestigious 2025 High Growth Business of the Year, which followed him being named the Chamber's 2024 'Rising Star'.
The High Growth Business award nomination stood despite The Edinburgh Reporter informing the Chamber of Commerce prior to the awards ceremony that Mr Galpin had put Luxford Burgers parent company, Secure Kitchens Ltd, into liquidation with debts of almost £120,000.

A report by official liquidator, Begbies Traynor, showed Secure Kitchens Ltd had left 17 creditors – many small local businesses – out of pocket, with the largest amount of £78,000 due to HMRC for unpaid VAT and corporation tax.
Luxford Burgers was started from a shipping container in Leith in 2020 as a 'click and collect' and delivery service before opening its first restaurant in St Leonard's Street in March 2022. A second restaurant in Brandon Terrace opened last September and 'dark kitchen' units operated in Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds.
He continues to run Luxford Burgers through Got Buns Ltd which was set up in June 2024. Galpin, who has fathered a second child by another woman, claims on his LinkedIn profile that he is Executive Director of hospitality management business Galpin Group, which 'owns and operates a portfolio of restaurants across the UK, with a combined gross turnover of £6m+ per annum'.

Conman who faked cancer and dead son admits throttling woman
A convicted conman who tricked victims with fabricated stories of his child's death and pretended to have cancer has pleaded guilty to strangling a woman. Scott Fraser admitted a charge of intentional strangulation of his partner at the time on September 25 last year. Fraser, of Aberdeen, flew into a rage at the couple's home after an argument over a birthday card at a restaurant. • Non-fatal strangulation offence would be a deterrent, mother says He lifted his victim off the floor by the lapel of her dressing gown before threatening to kill her family, Crewe magistrates' court was told. Fraser pleaded guilty to the offence as the trial hearing was due to start on Monday. The court heard how Fraser met his then partner online and had been in a relationship with her for two and a half years. The relationship had been happy but in the six months leading up to the attack there had been regular arguments and verbal abuse from Fraser. Fraser, now of Nantwich, Cheshire, was out with the woman for dinner, having travelled to the venue in a separate car. The victim showed him a birthday card written to one of her friends, who was turning 70. It was signed from the victim and her two daughters, which prompted Fraser to become angry. The court was told that the 57-year-old said: 'You've done it again. F*** off.' The prosecutor told the court: 'She believes that the defendant was referring to her annoying him. She then decided to leave, got in her car and drove off. She went home, and the defendant arrived immediately after her.' Changing into her dressing gown and making tea, the victim tried to be civil with Fraser and calm him down. Fraser would not be placated and became angry about the fact the woman had said she would not accompany him to Aberdeen, where he was due in court for other offences. He told her: 'I'm going to drag you there kicking and screaming.' Fraser, who is 6ft 5in, then grabbed her on the collar of her dressing gown and lifted her off the floor into the air. He added: 'You're coming to Aberdeen with me, or I'll kill your f***ing family. 'I won't do it. I'll get someone else to do it. I've got people on speed dial.' The victim grabbed her phone and went to the bathroom to call her adult daughters but Fraser grabbed it from her and told her she was 'not going anywhere'. He pinned her against a wall by her throat and repeated: 'You're not going anywhere'. Eventually, the woman apologised for upsetting him and he calmed down. Fraser had earlier pleaded guilty to other offences from the same set of charges. He admitted driving without insurance and driving without a licence after being caught behind the wheel of the woman's car on his way to a meeting with his probation officer. The driving offences were heard at Warrington magistrates' court in February and Fraser was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £700 and given six penalty points on his licence. • Serial abuser beat his partner to death while on curfew Fraser was already serving a community sentence after being convicted in September last year at Aberdeen sheriff court of abducting his then partner in Aberdeen and defrauding her of £50,000. The court heard Fraser had a tattoo of a baby, which he claimed to be his dead son despite actually having one daughter. He also falsely claimed to have prostate cancer. He was arrested and charged with the driving offences seven days later, having told the sheriff in the Scottish court he had 'turned over a new leaf'. Crewe magistrates referred the case to Chester crown court for sentencing in July.

Former boarding school teacher jailed over sex abuse of boys
A former boarding school teacher who 'exploited his position of trust' has been jailed for nine years for the abuse of boys under his care. William Bain preyed on the pupils while working at three different fee-paying schools across Scotland. The victims included a boy who had gone to Bain for help as he was being bullied. The former physics teacher, 72, was due to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow but instead pleaded guilty on Monday to 11 sex abuse charges. Bain had previously been sentenced to six and a half years in 2016 for similar offences against five boys at a school in Dunbartonshire. He was freed in 2020. It is believed the latest crimes were reported after publicity around that earlier case. Judge Lord Young reduced Bain's sentence from ten years in recognition of his guilty pleas. The charges, for offences committed between 1978 and 1999, consisted of ten charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices against boys aged 13 or younger and one charge of indecent assault on a slightly older boy. Bain first abused a 12-year-old boy at a private school in Edinburgh, where he was later a house tutor. He abused the child after ordering him to stay behind for detention. The next boy would often go to Bain for help with his homework. Shanti Maguire, for the prosecution, told the court: 'It was during these occasions of tutoring that Bain would sexually abuse him.' Bain ordered the child to keep quiet about what happened. • Edinburgh boarding school 'protected' abusers for 60 years Revealing the effect on this victim, Maguire said: 'Due to the nature of these events, he has spent many years blocking out the memory of the incidents in that he cannot recall all of the details.' By the mid-1980s, Bain had moved to a private school in Aberdeen, where he targeted another boy. The pupil was described as 'isolated and homesick' having moved from England to attend the school. Bain, who was a house master, invited the child into his room and told him he would 'look after him'. But, Maguire told the court, instead the teacher abused the child and stopped only when the school bell rang. Bain's next victims were at the same boarding school in Dunbartonshire involved in the 2016 case. One student, then a teenager, was molested on three occasions in the physics teacher's laboratory. Maguire said: 'These incidents took place in view of other pupils. Bain acted as if it was mere wrestling. However, [the victim] believed it was done for other purposes — namely an opportunity for Bain to touch him.' Another boy was the victim of bullying and had described the school as a 'brutal environment'. He was preyed upon in Bain's lab; in a dark room at a photography club run by the teacher; and groped during rugby training sessions and walking trips. • Boarding school agrees six-figure payout over pupil abuse claim A third boy at the school had also been bullied and was grieving following the death of his brother. He was 'drawn' to Bain due to his apparently 'kindly nature'. Bain, a Cambridge graduate, groomed the child by giving him sweets and taking him to fast-food restaurants. The teacher initially exposed himself in the camera club dark room and went on to grope the boy, who described feeling 'trapped'. Other incidents occurred in the lab and in Bain's private flat in the grounds of the school, to which 'a number of pupils' were given access. It was there another teenager was molested while a film was being shown. A further assault occurred while this boy was using a computer at the flat. A sixth boy studying at the school was inappropriately touched but was told by Bain casually 'not to worry'. The victim spoke of feeling 'uncomfortable' as the teacher stood watching him and other pupils as they showered. Another student initially regarded Bain as 'friendly' but was later abused in his bed and while alone with Bain in the flat. The court was told that Bain, of Crieff, Perthshire, had recently been living with his 99-year-old mother. Brian McConnachie KC, for the defence, told the hearing: 'Around the time of the millennium, [Bain] accepted that his behaviour had been out of control and he was determined to put an end to it. 'He has given evidence at the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. He not only spoke about his own offending, but assisted with evidence of the culture that existed at the schools that he was involved with.' Sentencing, the judge said he had read a number of victim impact statements describing the 'terrible legacy' left by Bain's abuse. He said those men were left feeling 'alone and lost' as boys, thinking they would not be believed had they spoken out. Lord Young said: 'These children were entrusted by their parents to the schools. They ought to have been nurtured and educated in a safe environment. 'Instead, it seems that throughout your career as a teacher, you abused this position to pursue your own sexual deviances.' Bain remains on the sex offenders list. Fiona Kirkby, procurator fiscal for High Court sexual offences, said: 'William Bain is a prolific offender who repeatedly exploited his position of trust as a teacher to sexually abuse children in his care. He has now been held accountable and imprisoned for his depraved actions.'
