LaGrange police ask public for help solving 2011 cold case homicide
On June 5, 2011, Freddie L. Holmes was robbed and killed on Revis Street, according to police.
Now, police say they've exhausted their efforts to bring the case to justice and are asking the community for more information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.

'Even seemingly minor details may prove crucial in achieving justice and providing closure to the family and loved ones of the victim,' LaGrange police said.
Anyone who may have been near the Lucy Morgan Housing Authority on or around June 5, 2011 is asked to get in contact with the police department. If anyone saw or heard anything unusual at the time, they're asked to get in touch to share the information.

5 victims in Traverse City Walmart stabbing attack released from hospital
Five of the 11 people injured in a stabbing attack at a Traverse City, Michigan, Walmart on July 26 have been treated and released from the hospital, health system officials said Friday. In addition to the five released, four patients are in good condition, and two others have been treated and transferred, according to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, which has been providing medical care. The victims range in age from 29 to 84 years old. "We continue to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the incredible physicians, nurses, surgeons, clinical professionals, and support staff across Munson Healthcare. Their unwavering commitment to care and recovery during this difficult time reflects the strength of our healthcare community," the hospital system said in a statement Friday. "Our thoughts are with all those affected and their loved ones. We stand beside them and remain focused on supporting the health and well-being of everyone in our region." Bradford James Gille, 42, of Afton, Michigan, is accused of using a folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade to attack five men and six women, including one store employee, during the late afternoon hours of July 26. Gille is charged with terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder. He was arraigned on July 28 in the 86th District Court and pleaded not guilty. Gille has a history of mental illness and a criminal record that includes assault and malicious destruction of property, according to Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Noelle Moeggenberg. Authorities are still working to determine a motive behind the attack. The store, where the attack occurred in northwest Michigan, reopened Wednesday morning.

Third man charged in teen's ‘17 drug robbery death
As Anthony Triplett was set to get out of prison for killing a 14-year-old boy, charges were unsealed July 21 for a different criminal case for Diego Serna's Nov. 2, 2017 death in Gary's Miller section. Triplett, 27, of Gary, is the third man charged in Serna's killing. The case has been delayed for years. He has pleaded not guilty. His next hearing is Sept. 11. Against his better instincts, a 20-year-old man went to a Gary apartment complex on Nov. 2, 2017, to sell 1.5 ounces of marijuana to Augustus 'Gus' Johnson, his then-Hammond Walmart co-worker, charges allege. It was a setup. The man ended up seriously wounded and his friend, Serna, 16, of Hammond, was killed. Gary Police responded to the Marquette Apartments, 405 South Huntington St. They found Serna, who appeared lifeless, on his stomach. The marijuana dealer survived. Johnson, now 48, is awaiting sentencing after signing a plea deal in 2021. At various points, prosecutors filed to squash the deal, then go forward with it. He told police that he, another Walmart co-worker, Triplett, talked about robbing the dealer months earlier. That evening, they picked up co-defendant Marcell Ellison in East Chicago. At the Gary apartments, as the marijuana dealer approached Johnson's car, Triplett came up behind him and fired four shots, charges state. Ellison also fired shots toward the man. Johnson told police he was the getaway driver. Ellison's trial is set in November. The case was further complicated after the original detective got indicted in a federal child porn case. It has since been reassigned to a different investigator. Former Gary Police Det. James Bond, 52, of Crown Point, a former deputy chief, commander and homicide supervisor, was indicted in September 2024 after soliciting an explicit video from a 17-year-old boy working as a city intern in the police department last summer. Investigators found a latent cached screenshot on his iPhone. Triplett was sentenced in December 2021 for killing 14-year-old Arion Lilly, who was shot in the back after leaving a barber shop, lawyers said. Triplett said he was fleeing another car shooting at him and didn't mean to hit the boy.

A 49-year-old Marietta man faces 170 years in prison after he was convicted of fraud. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On Friday, a jury convicted Carl Delano Torjagbo, AKA Karl Lucius Delano Torjagbo, 49, of Marietta, of bank fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. According to court documents, on February 13, 2021, Torjagbo submitted two tax returns to the IRS. Each tax return had a different social security number and date of birth. The counterfeit tax returns showed that Torjagbo had millions of dollars in losses that offset earnings from his African gold mine business, Kremkov Industries, the Department of Justice said. This resulted in the U.S. Treasury issuing a check for $3,366,240.76 to Torjagbo. The 38-year-old said he had 493 employees who reside across the U.S., and had an average monthly payroll of nearly $4 million. In March 2021, Torjagbo received $9.6 million in a PPP loan. Officials said he used the PPP loan and tax refund to purchase the following: $1,677,861.01 for his home; $332,999.80 for a 2014 Lamborghini Aventador; $120,799.79 for a 2022 BMW M850xi; $90,520 for a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Velar; $51,000 for the down payment on a 72-foot yacht; Over $1,000,000 for real estate, trucks, and trailers to start a new business; More than $15,000 for plastic surgery.
