West Indies vs Australia, 3rd T20I: Highlights from St. Kitts

08:13 IST:Right then, the fate of the series has been sealed, and Australia continue to remain unbeaten on this Caribbean sojourn. West Indies now have pride to play for as they look to end the series on a high and ideally win the remaining two games. The fourth T20I will take place here at Warner Park in Basseterre in less than 24 hours, on Sunday, 26th July at 11 pm GMT. As always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye! 08:12 IST:The skipper of Australia, Mitchell Marsh, describes the series win as really special, especially with a young team where players are getting opportunities to shine. He is pleased with the 3-0 lead after three games. Marsh mentions that the team is exploring different options by giving players chances in various positions. He praises the team's collective performance, highlighting their excellent execution with the ball, particularly in the later stages of the game. Marsh is particularly impressed with Tim David's outstanding innings, which left him speechless. 08:08 IST:The captain of West Indies, Shai Hope feels that they were a few runs short with the bat and credits Australia for their disciplined death bowling. He mentions that it's something the West Indies need to revisit, especially with the ball in hand. Hope shares that the team needs to execute their plans better and make it a lot more difficult for batters to score freely. He acknowledges that they are aware of where they are falling short, but stresses the importance of stepping up in those key moments. 08:12 IST:Tim David is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his breathtaking ton. Tim says that he was just having a great time out in the middle, playing for the Australian team. He appreciates every opportunity to play and is grateful for the chance to score a hundred for Australia, which he hadn't expected. David credits the good pitch and strong breeze for allowing him to back his strengths and attack the bowlers. After nursing a niggle, he is happy to have a break at home to get his body right before seizing the opportunity to shine on the field. With his power-hitting skills already well-developed, David is now focusing on improving his shot selection to make the right decisions at the right time and maximise his chances of making big scores. He also jokingly thanks Dre Russ for his bat and feels it suited his game perfectly. 08:06 IST:Time for the presentation ceremony... 08:02 IST:Earlier, West Indies were put into bat for the third straight game, and Shai Hope, along with Brandon King, gave them an ideal start with a 125-run opening stand. Australia overpitched too often and paid the price. King fell for 62, and although Hope brought up his maiden T20I century, the innings lost steam in the final six overs. Nathan Ellis led Australia's late fightback as West Indies, after scoring 156 in the first 14 overs, managed only 58 in the last six with Hope facing just 12 of the final 36 balls. 08:15 IST:71 runs came off those three overs of spin, and that pretty much sealed the fate of the game. One could argue and rightly so, that Romario Shepherd should have been brought back into the attack earlier, especially considering he was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies before Tim David's onslaught. David stitched together a 128-run stand with Mitchell Owen that took Australia over the line, breaking records along the way. He first smashed the fastest fifty for Australia in T20Is in just 16 balls and then went on to rewrite the record books again, bringing up the fastest T20I century for Australia in just 37 deliveries. 08:14 IST:At the halfway mark, it felt like West Indies had left some runs on the table, and Australia came out blazing, racing to 30 in just 2 overs. From there, both sides traded blows. The Aussies kept up with the required rate, while the Windies kept chipping away at the wickets. At 87/4, another wicket or two from there would have really made it difficult for the visitors, but up stepped Tim David. He took a real liking to the spinners and took the wind out of the home side's sails. 07:55 IST:Signed, sealed, and delivered! Australia have wrapped up the series with two games to go. The last time they toured the Caribbean for a T20I series, they were handed a 4-1 defeat, but this time, they have flipped the script. It is a real concern for West Indies, who have now won just 3 of their last 18 T20Is. Their bowling lacked bite, and much like the first game, their finish with the bat once again left plenty to be desired. 07:52 IST:16.1: Romario Shepherd to Tim David, FOUR! CENTURY FOR DAVID! The onslaught from Tim David helps Australia win the 3rd T20I by 6 wickets and they now gain an unassailable lead of 3-0 in this 5-match series. This was a fuller one, on the pads. Tim David flicks this off the inside towards the fine leg region for four to wrap this game. 07:52 IST:15.6: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, SIX! Back of a length around middle and off. Mitchell Owen pulls this off the front foot. The ball does just enough to travel to the fence. Rovman Powell, at long on, backpaddles and holds onto this. RP just couldn't stop the body momentum going backwards and he ends up stepping over the ropes. Rovman Powell signals six. 07:50 IST:A halt in play as there is a lighting issue with one of the bails. 07:49 IST:15.5: Jediah Blades to Tim David, Full toss on off, Tim David thumps this down to long off for one. 07:48 IST:15.4: Jediah Blades to Tim David, FOUR! Back of a length around middle and off. Tim David pushes this back to the bowler for a dot. 07:47 IST:15.2: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, Short-pitched again, around middle and leg. Owen smashes this flat and hard towards deep mid-wicket region for one. 07:46 IST:15.2: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, WIDE! Full and way too wide outside off. Mitchell Owen leaves it. Wided. 07:45 IST:15.1: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, SIX! It keeps getting better and better and better for the Aussies. Short-pitched, on middle and leg. Mitchell Owen pulls this right out of the middle of his bat and clears the fence over the deep square leg fielder for six runs. 07:44 IST:14.6: Jason Holder to Mitchell Owen, Low full toss, on off, Owen drills it to long off and takes a single. 07:44 IST:14.5: Jason Holder to Mitchell Owen, FOUR! Not where he intended but Mitchell Owen will take it! Pace off and into the wicket, wide on off, Owen flays at the delivery and gets an outside edge that flies over short third for a boundary. 07:43 IST:14.4: Jason Holder to Tim David, Full and going away, David smashes it down to long off for a single. The 100-run stand comes up between these two batters, out of which Ian Bishop informs that Mitchell Owen has contribueted only 18. 07:42 IST:14.3: Jason Holder to Mitchell Owen, Full and around off, Owen slices it towards deep cover. Brandon King runs in off the ropes and collects it on the bounce. 07:42 IST:14.2: Jason Holder to Mitchell Owen, Gets the yorker in, outside off, Owen digs it out down the deck. 07:41 IST:14.1: Jason Holder to Tim David, Low full toss, on middle, David thumps it down to long on for one. 07:39 IST:13.6: Romario Shepherd to Mitchell Owen, Low full toss, on middle, Owen sets low to whip it away. Skies it up but well wide of deep square leg to his left. A couple of runs taken as the fielder in the deep mops it up. 07:39 IST:13.5: Romario Shepherd to Tim David, DROPPED! Brandon King shells a sitter! Angled away, on a good length, on middle, David has a swing across the line. Tries to whip it away but gets it right off the bottom part of the bat. It goes straight down the throat of deep mid-wicket, where Brandon King looks to take it reverse cup but the ball bursts through his hands. A single taken. 07:38 IST:13.4: Romario Shepherd to Tim David, Nails the yorker, around the off stump, Tim steers it to short third. 07:38 IST:13.3: Romario Shepherd to Tim David, SIX! Absolutely nailed! Romario Shepherd goes into the surface again but this gets only as high as the chest. Hit flat and hard! Going across from around the wicket, full in length, Owen walks closer to the line and stays low to make the connection. Australia need 47 runs from 42 balls. 07:34 IST:12.5: Jediah Blades to Tim David, Fuller and on middle, Tim hits it down to long on for a single. 07:34 IST:12.4: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, 'Catch it' is the cry but the ball lands safely! Banged in short by Blades and he gets it high enough to trouble the batter, Mitchell drags the pull and skies it but it lands well in front of long on. They cross. 07:33 IST:12.3: Jediah Blades to Tim David, On a shortish length, on off, David steers it to deep third for a single. 07:32 IST:12.2: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, Another full toss, outside off, sliced away to deep backward point for a single. 07:32 IST:12.1: Jediah Blades to Mitchell Owen, Going across, a full toss, Owen swings to go through the off side. Gets an outside edge that goes on the bounce to the keeper. 07:31 IST:What an onslaught by Tim David! The Aussies have scored 71 runs in just the last three overs, thanks to his incredible hitting. He's single-handedly taken the game away from the Windies, bringing Australia to the brink of a thrilling win. This high-scoring contest is living up to the hype, and the outcome might just determine the series' fate. 07:30 IST:11.6: Roston Chase to Tim David, SIX! Another full toss, another six! Low full toss, sprayed on the pads by Chase as he errs once again. Tim David just nonchalantly picks it up over square leg for six more. 71 runs have come off the last 3 overs. 07:29 IST:11.5: Roston Chase to Tim David, FOUR! Easy pickings! Thigh-high full toss, on middle, Tim needs no second invitation as he just swats it through backward square leg for a boundary. 07:29 IST:11.5: Roston Chase to Tim David, From over the wicket, Chase fires in a yorker, on off, Tim jams it out. NO BALL called as Chase as overstepped. Free Hit to follow. 07:27 IST:11.4: Roston Chase to Tim David, SIX! That's gone as well! Flatter and fuller, going across, Tim gets under the ball, frees his arms and tonks it over extra cover. The ball goes over the roof and we will need a new ball. 07:26 IST:11.3: Roston Chase to Tim David, SIX! Dispatched with disdain! Chase looks to go into the blockhole but ends up serving a low full toss, around the pads, David does not miss out and just swats it over square leg for a biggie. 07:25 IST:11.2: Roston Chase to Tim David, Pushed across, very full, Tim David lets it go. 07:25 IST:11.1: Roston Chase to Tim David, Very full, on middle, David smashes it down the ground to long on but guess what? Despite losing four wickets, they haven't backed down, and Tim David's onslaught has brought the required rate below 10. With 95 needed off 60 and small boundaries in play, the Aussies will back themselves to get the job done from here. Shai Hope has gathered his team in a huddle. This pause might have come at just the right time for the Windies. The hosts need a couple of quick wickets to wrest back control, or the game could slip away quickly. 07:14 IST:9.6: Gudakesh Motie to Tim David, SIX! FOUR IN FOUR FOR DAVID! A slight hold-up in play as a blue line on the LED sightscreen, which displays ads, seems to be bothering Shai Hope. Tim David tries to lend a hand, even jokingly placing his towel on the sightscreen in an attempt to fix it. The issue has been sorted and we are ready to resume. 04:35 IST:0.6: Ben Dwarshuis to Brandon King, Back of a length around middle and leg. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources of St Kitts, Samal Mojah Duggins, steps forward to place the trophy on the pedestal. Up first, it's the anthem of St Kitts and Nevis, followed by that of Australia, and then the West Indies. 04:18 IST:PITCH REPORT - Samuel Badree is in for a chat. He says he wouldn't want to be a bowler on this wicket and informs that the average winning first-innings score here since 2022 is 205. He points out that one of the key reasons for such high scores is the boundary dimensions. Mentions that the square boundaries measure 61 and 65 meters, with the straight hit being 68 metres. Expects plenty of sixes tonight. Shakera Selman echoes the sentiment, mentioning that bowlers are likely to struggle on this hard surface with true bounce. She shares that using the wind could be crucial for bowlers, and suggests that pace-off deliveries and bowling into the surface might be the best option on a pitch like this. 04:14 IST:Cameron Green is in for a chat. Expresses his comfort with batting at various positions in the lineup, particularly highlighting the third spot as a favourable one where he feels like an opener. He emphasizes that his approach depends on the openers' performance, adapting to build partnerships if early wickets fall or accelerate when the situation demands it. Green notes that the Australian team is working on being aggressive and positive, leveraging their lineup of six-hitters to attack the opposition's bowling. He also shares his perspective on fearlessness, suggesting it comes with age and experience, allowing players to handle pressure more effectively. With the current team dynamics, Green appreciates the positive outcomes in recent games 04:11 IST:The skipper of West Indies, Shai Hope, says the key for his side is to carry the same power and intent through the middle phase as they do at the back end. Mentions that they started well in the last game and need to replicate that strong start again. Hope shares that the biggest focus is on backing their own skills and it is all about the right mindset. He also urges the players to understand the pride that comes with playing for the West Indies and feels it is a great opportunity to turn things around. Informs that they have made two changes with Romario Shepherd coming in for Andre Russell and Jediah Blades making his debut, replacing Alzarri Joseph. 04:11 IST:Australian captain Mitchell Marsh informs that his team would bowl first, citing the small ground and strong breeze as key factors. He believes these conditions will give his bowling unit an advantage and hopes they can restrict the opposition to a reasonable total. Marsh describes the ground as the smallest he's seen in world cricket, predicting that the ball will travel quickly. He emphasises that the team is looking to improve and will stick to their plans. With Sean Abbott replacing Matthew Kuhnemann, Marsh is confident in his team's strategy. 04:10 IST:Australia (Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh (C), Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis (WK), Cameron Green, Tim David, Mitchell Owen, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott (In for Matthew Kuhnemann), Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa. 04:33 IST:West Indies (Playing XI) - Brandon King, Shai Hope (C/WK), Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd (In for Andre Russell), Jediah Blades (On T20I debut) (In for Alzarri Joseph).

Tim Davids record-shattering century sends Hopes milestone-breaking efforts in vain

Basseterre [St Kitts], July 26 (ANI): Tim David produced a spectacle with his brute force to blaze his way to the fastest T20I century for Australia and propel his side to a 3-0 unassailable lead in the five-match series at Warner Park. Cricket lovers in Australia and T20I fanatics switched on their screens in the morning to witness how their side was faring against the Caribbean powerhouse. West Indies had muscled their way to a daunting 214/4 after being put to bat against their will. In reply, Australia were threadbare at 87/4 after 8.4 overs, slowly allowing the idea of living to fight another day to sink in their minds. But David embraced the role of finisher and left the Men in Marron gobsmacked with his sheer power-hitting. David's destructive potential was on display when he orchestrated a six-hitting lesson in the two monstrous overs. In three consecutive overs bowled by ball tweakers, Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase, David flaunted his six-hitting nerve and blasted nine. Within the blink of an eye, the 29-year-old brought up his half-century in just 16 balls, the fastest for the Baggy Greens, going past Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis' record of 17. He went firing all cylinders and celebrated his maiden and the fastest T20I ton for Australia, achieving the feat in a mere 37 deliveries. David bettered Josh Inglis' 43-ball effort against Scotland in Edinburgh last September. Estonia's Sahil Chauhan is at the top of the overall summit, hammering a ton in 27 deliveries against Cyprus last year. David wasn't the only centurion of the run-scoring fest in Basseterre. In the first innings, West Indies captain Shai Hope notched his maiden T20I hundred in 55 deliveries. He became just the second batter after legendary Chris Gayle to tonk a T20I hundred for the West Indies. However, his efforts went in vain courtesy of David's masterclass. He raised a 128-run stand for the fourth wicket with Mitchell Owen, who played a belligerent, unbeaten cameo of 36(18). He landed the decisive blow, and David's relentless onslaught ended with 102* from 37 balls, laced with six fours and 11 towering maximums. His record-shattering efforts allowed Australia to gun down the target in 16.1 overs and savour success with a six-wicket victory. (ANI)

'Hell be driven to make it to number one': Pope on Root toppling Tendulkar as top run-getter in Tests

Manchester [UK], July 26 (ANI): England batter Ollie Pope felt Joe Root could go on to break the record of legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run getter in Test cricket after Root surpassed former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in the longest format. Root achieved this feat in the fourth Test at Old Trafford cricket ground on Friday. Root was removed by World No.1 all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for a brilliant 150 in 248, consisting of 14 fours. "I'm sure if his body allows, I'm sure he'll have the hunger to play. I'm not sure how many games he needs, the way he's batting. He'll obviously be driven to make it to number one, but I think he just wants to keep playing as long as he can. The excitement he still has to play Test cricket, whenever we rock up at the start of the series, he's always got the biggest smile on his face. So I think the hunger he has for it, I wouldn't be surprised if he can chase him down," Pope told the media. He also praised Root's 150-run innings and said it was exactly what England needed. "Knock like today, I think exactly what the team needed. Pretty flawless, didn't really give away any chances, and just played his game. And I think, yeah, the way he goes about his cricket, the way he trains, the amount of runs he's scoring now is just amazing. He's a joy to watch and see how he goes about his stuff. And yeah, obviously just keeps getting better and better," he added. Root continues to shine against India and surpassed Steve Smith's record on Friday for centuries against the Men in Blue. Root has now scored 12 centuries against India. Root now has nine Test hundreds against India at home - the most by any batter against an opponent in home Tests, surpassing former Australia legend Don Bradman's eight against England. Ollie Pope explained that England skipper Ben Stokes experienced cramping in his leg, likely due to the physical demands of the ongoing series. He noted the significant amount of bowling Stokes has done, suggesting he has pushed his body to its limits. "I think he's [Ben Stokes] just cramping down his leg, and I think it managed to spread to his whole leg from what I understand. I think it's probably just a build-up of the amount he's sort of pushed his body over the last four or five weeks. The amount he's bowled, I think, is something that it's the most he's bowled in the series so far. And obviously, we've still got a game to go. So I think he's obviously pushed himself to some serious limits so far," Pope said. Stokes completed 11000 runs in his international career across all formats in his outing against India and remained unbeaten on 77 at the end of Day 3 of the fourth Test. England ended the day at 544/7, leading by 186 runs. Stokes, while he completed his fifty during the final session, went off the field due to trouble in his left leg. But Stokes (77*) came back to bat and, along with Liam Dawson (21*), kept any other possible disaster at bay. Stokes now has 11016 runs in 272 matches across all formats at an average of 35.88 with 18 hundreds and 61 fifties under his belt. Coming to the match, England started off their day at 225/2, with Ollie Pope (20*) and Joe Root (11*) unbeaten. The duo went on to have a century partnership, building on the exploits of openers Ben Duckett (94 in 100 balls, with 13 fours) and Zak Crawley (84 in 113 balls, with 13 fours and a six). They took England to 332/2 at the end of the first session, with both batsmen having scored their fifties. In the second session, while Washington Sundar (2/57) removed Ollie (71 in 128 balls, seven fours) and Harry Brook (3), skipper Stokes and Root thwarted any further resistance from India as Root completed his 38th Test ton and went past Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest Test run-getter. England ended the second session at 433/4, with Stokes and Root unbeaten. Siraj and Bumrah faced fitness issues during the session, having walked off the field; Bumrah contributed only one over with the new ball. Root was removed by Jadeja for a brilliant 150 in 248, consisting of 14 fours. Bumrah and Siraj removed Jamie Smith (9) and Chris Woakes (4) quickly, reducing England to 528/7. Earlier, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and India made 358 runs, with half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (61 in 151 balls, with seven fours), Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 in 107 balls, with 10 fours and a six) and Rishabh Pant (54 in 75 balls, with three fours and two sixes) were major contributions for India. Stokes (5/72) struck tough blows on India, never really letting them settle with a massive partnership. (ANI)
