Cause of death released for Redwood City inmate Kyle Harrison
The county coroner's office determined that Harrison died on March 15 at Maple Street Correctional Facility in Redwood City 'due to toxic effects of three medications,' the sheriff's office wrote.
The coroner concluded that the 25-year-old inmate's manner of death was an 'accident' and found Harrison died due to toxic effects of Methadone, Amitriptyline, and Gabapentin.
Harrison previously pleaded no contest to engaging in a speed contest and felony vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of Grace Spiridon, and her husband, Gregory Ammen. The couple's 7-year-old daughters 'miraculously' survived the crash on El Camino Real, prosecutors said.
In February, Harrison was sentenced to serve eight years in state prison. Court records show that Harrison was slated to be transported from the county jail to a state prison facility in May, but he died in jail before he was transferred.
Investigators did not say why Harrison was taking Methadone, a medication typically used to treat opioid use disorder. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant medication. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsive medication that's also used to treat certain types of neural pain.
The street race happened on Nov. 4, 2022 in Redwood City. Harrison raced his BMW against a teenager, Cesar Salto Morales, who was driving a Mercedes Benz on El Camino Real. Morales' Mercedes slammed into a Chevrolet Bolt with Spiridon, Ammen, and their two young daughters inside.
The parents were killed on impact, while their daughters survived in the backseat. The family was less than 10 minutes away from their San Carlos home. Prosecutors said Harrison fled the scene, and a witness recorded his BMW's license plate number with her cellphone as he was driving away. Police found and arrested Harrison weeks later.
After his in-custody death, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office and San Mateo County Coroner's Office conducted independent investigations into Harrison's cause and manner of death. The DA's investigation is still underway.

Missing woman feared dead in California desert found alive and safe in Colorado
Kelsey Pittman's family had already reported her missing weeks earlier when authorities found her car parked outside Death Valley National Park. Pittman was known to go by 'Infinity Jane' or 'Jane Jones,' but her family had few clues about where she was — until their search eventually led them to a rugged part of the Sonoran Desert where people prefer to live off the grid. Pittman was known to visit Las Vegas, but the last time anyone heard from her was in November when she made contact with local police in Utah. Besides her abandoned vehicle, there were no signs the 33-year-old was in the Inyo County area, or camping out in Death Valley, Joshua Tree or Slab City. But now, the search is over. Authorities this week said she was found alive — in Colorado. 'The Inyo County Sheriff's Office is relieved to announce that Kelsey Pittman has been located alive in the state of Colorado,' the agency said in a Facebook post Tuesday. Out of respect for her and her family's privacy, the department said it would provide no other details about the case. The news closes the chapter on a months-long search that involved law enforcement agencies in multiple states. Pittman's family in North Carolina reported her missing in November. Inyo County Sheriff's deputies first became involved in the case when they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Slab City on Feb. 9. Deputies found a 2009 Chevrolet HHR with North Carolina plates parked in the area. The vehicle was registered to Pittman. Deputies searched the vehicle and the area but did not find her. A missing person's investigation was launched. Even her mother came to Inyo County to join in the search, the Sheriff's Office announced earlier this month in a news release. The Slab City community is made up of RV dwellers, artists and other bohemian living off-the-grid. Conditions in the area where Pittman's vehicle was found are notoriously harsh, and hikers have been known to become disoriented in extreme heat and disappear and die in the surrounding desert. Investigators coordinated with multiple police agencies, drone pilots, cadaver dog handlers, and volunteer search-and-rescue crews to look for Pittman, until they exhausted those efforts. In announcing her discovery, Inyo County officials thanked search-and-rescue workers for their efforts.

New York Liberty's Isabelle Harrison is raising awareness about her brother's struggle with lupus
NEW YORK -- Isabelle Harrison always looked forward to going to Indiana to play no matter what WNBA team she was on. It gave her a chance to catch up with her brother Daniel, who's been battling lupus since he was 13. Last weekend, when Harrison accompanied her New York Liberty teammate and girlfriend Natasha Cloud to the WNBA All-Star Game, Daniel was in the hospital dealing with complications from the autoimmune disorder. Harrison spent most of the weekend — except when Cloud was competing in and winning the skills competition — with her brother, who has spent four years waiting for a kidney transplant. He needs to be healthy to receive a new kidney. The average wait time for a kidney transplant is 3 to 5 years, though it can vary in different parts of the country. 'I will say the past month now, he's been in and out of the hospital,' Harrison said. 'The first game this year he couldn't come to because he was in the hospital, the second we had to use a walker since he couldn't get around well.' Daniel couldn't make it to the arena for All-Star weekend. "It's just been kind of hard for him mentally because he's never dealt with this type of it before," Harrison said. 'The doctors haven't really seen anything like this.' Daniel is a rare case since 90% of people living with lupus are women. Harrison lost her sister, Danielle, to the disease in 2017. Three of Harrison's 12 siblings have been diagnosed with lupus. 'It's very prevalent in the African American community,' Harrison said. Lupus is a chronic disease that can cause pain and inflammation in any part of the body, though it typically affects skin, joints, the heart and kidneys. Approximately 1.5 million Americans have some form of lupus and there are an estimated 16,000 new cases per year, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. The disease causes the immune system to attack healthy tissue and impacts each person differently. Harrison carries some of her sister's ashes in a necklace she wears to keep Danielle close to her heart. She's doing everything she can to make sure she doesn't lose another sibling to the disease. She has a tattoo that reads 'faith over fear.' Harrison came to New York this year after struggling with the Chicago Sky last season. She missed all of 2023 due to meniscus surgery. She's been playing well lately, averaging 8.0 points over the past month as a key reserve for the Liberty. While competing in Athletes Unlimited over the winter the last four years, Harrison has played for the Lupus Foundation of America, raising almost $18,000 for the organization. Harrison said the Liberty have been supportive. The team doctors check in with her, as does general manager Jonathan Kolb. Although Harrison does not have lupus, she battled another autoimmune condition in 2018. 'It means a lot. They really care,' she said. 'I've never ever felt that before on teams I've been with."

GloRilla's home was targeted by burglars. She says it's ‘crazy' that she was arrested instead
Rap star Glorilla is spilling her tea about her recent arrest, sharing her side of the chain of events that led to her felony drug charges this week. The 'Sticky' and 'TGIF' musician, whose real name is Gloria Woods, said Thursday on X that her run-in with law-enforcement officials was 'CRAZY.' She claimed that police, 'instead of focusing on finding the Suspects' who broke into her Atlanta home, 'they focus[ed] on some cannabis.' '1. So no I wasn't busted 2. My house got robbed 3. I wasn't home,' the 25-year-old performer wrote. 'Long story short my house gets home invaded and I'm the only one that gets arrested.' Officers with the Forsyth County [Ga.] Sheriff's Office were dispatched early Sunday morning to the rapper's home, responding to a report of a burglary. Woods was in Indianapolis at the time for the WNBA All-Star Game, where she was the halftime performer. Three suspects entered Woods' home and were stealing items when an occupant of the house fired a weapon at the intruders. The intruders fled the scene and did not appear to have been injured, the sheriff's office said. Deputies investigating the burglary noticed a 'strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics,' and a drug task force secured a warrant to search the home. A statement from the sheriff's office alleges the task force found marijuana 'in plain view inside the master bedroom closet.' Woods was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She voluntarily turned herself in on Tuesday and was released on $22,260 later that day. The sheriff's office said that it has not located the suspects and that its investigation into the burglary is ongoing. Legal representatives for Woods alleged the suspects fled the scene with 'high value jewelry' and that Woods' family members staying at the home 'were traumatized' by the incident. Attorneys Drew Findling and Marissa Goldberg said in a statement that Woods' arrest is 'a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become' and that their client 'is a victim, not a suspect.' Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a statement that the homeowner is the 'victim of a serious crime' and that officers seek justice but 'at the same time ... must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.' After speaking out on X about her arrest, GloRilla moved forward by celebrating the arrival of Leo season. The 'Typa' artist, who celebrates her birthday Monday, shared on social media revealing pictures of herself posing with a chair. 'Anyways, dey done let da LEOS ina door,' she captioned the pics.
