Family and friends honour Ashling Murphy on what would have been her 27th birthday
Ashling's life was tragically and callously short in January 2022 when, aged just 24 she was brutally killed by Jozef Puška, while she was doing nothing more than out for her routine evening run.
Over three years on the schoolteachers' family and friends have rallied around to celebrate her all too short life. Ashling Murphy (Centre) with mother Kathleen, brother Cathal, father Raymond and sister Amy.
The tight-knit Tullamore town of Blueball, from which Ashling was born, bred, raised and dearly loved, have established The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund to ensure her enduring legacy.
In a post on Instagram the community fund today paid tribute to Ashling 's legacy writing :
'Today we remember the life of Ashling on what would have been her 27th birthday — her fourth heavenly birthday away from those who loved her, and who continue to love and miss her so dearly.
'Though Ashling is no longer with us, her memory lives on, and her legacy endures in the countless lives she touched during her short but remarkable time with us — and in those she will continue to inspire in the years ahead.
'We remember Ashling for her love of music, her unwavering dedication to teaching and learning, her kindness, her generous spirit, and her radiant smile.
'Though she may be gone, there is comfort in knowing that her light still shines — in the hearts of those she loved, and in the many lives her legacy continues to uplift.' Ashling Murphy. Pic: Supplied
And while Ashling has indeed left a hole in the lives of her loved ones and the community, the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund has raised thousands to sponsor initiatives in her local area.
An array of sport clubs, musical societies and other clubs have benefited from tens of thousands of funds raised in Ashling's honour by those whose lives she touched. Ashling Murphy
And it's not just Offaly, or even Ireland, that is determined to ensure Ashling's legacy spreads far and wide -this year, one woman completed the New York Marathon, crossing the Manhattan finish line wearing a T-shirt bearing Ashling's name and face.

Fury and hardman Kelbie were even treated to specially-made Gypsy King cocktails featuring the boxer's logo and their faces on the fancy drinks at VIP favourite Tigerlily. Kelbie has since reinvented himself as a boxing promoter and has previously been pictured in selfies with legendary former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, 82, retired England ace Wayne Rooney. Kelbie's latest snap comes just days after the funerals of two Scottish gangsters who were gunned down in the Costa del Sol. Gregg Wallace's alleged behaviour ‘never been acceptable', says watchdog chief
Baroness Kennedy, who heads the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority, which aims to improve behaviour in the creative industries, made the comments after BBC News reported fresh claims of inappropriate behaviour by the 60-year-old from 50 more people. Wallace had stepped back from hosting the BBC cooking show last year after a number of historical complaints came to light, with the latest claims including allegations he groped one MasterChef worker and pulled his trousers down in front of another. On Tuesday, the former greengrocer said in an Instagram post that he had been cleared of the 'most serious and sensational accusations' against him ahead of the report into his alleged misconduct, but added that he recognised some of his humour and language was inappropriate 'at times' and apologised for this. Speaking on the BBC's Newsnight magazine show, Baroness Kennedy said: 'The thing about this is that it should've never been acceptable behaviour, and people did complain about it. 'Being a cheeky chappy and the guy that the public were attracted to as being their frank-speaking, playful man that they saw on the telly, he was not speaking on the television the way that he was speaking to the people around him.' Baroness Kennedy said the public might have enjoyed watching Wallace playing the 'cheeky chappy' but that they had not seen his 'uglier side'. The latest set of allegations reported by BBC News, saw a university student claim that Wallace reached under her skirt and pinched her bottom in a nightclub, while a junior worker alleged he dropped his trousers in front of her while he was not wearing any underwear. Other recent claims include a MasterChef worker who said she tried to complain about comments he allegedly made about her body in 2022, and a former policeman who tried to raise concerns after he allegedly witnessed Wallace making inappropriate sexual comments at a charity event in 2023. BBC News reported the majority of new allegations claimed he made inappropriate sexual comments, with 11 women accusing him of inappropriate sexual behaviour, such as groping and touching. Baroness Kennedy added: 'Now I know that Gregg was saying that he is someone with neurodiversity problems, that he's autistic, and that may explain some of his deeply inappropriate behaviour, but he's not inhibited, he's disinhibited in what he does, but that's also a role for management. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more 'If you employ someone, and then you discover that they actually don't know how to contain themselves and how to behave, then you have to basically be taking them on one side and nipping it in the bud at an early stage. That was not done. 'I think that's part of a reflection of the way in which television has changed in the last 20 years.' Baroness Kennedy said 'it's not so much that suddenly we've become politically correct' but the issue was about behaviour that was never acceptable. BBC News said it had not seen the final Banijay report into Wallace's behaviour, but it was understood the presenter had been sacked. Philippa Childs, head of broadcasting union Bectu, said she would 'like to feel' a similar situation could not happen again, but added that convincing people to come forward was a 'real problem for the industry to tackle', adding that young workers were 'vulnerable' as they feared for their jobs. She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: 'I can't say I'm surprised that there have been further claims, given that's what normally happens when a story emerges about an individual of bad behaviour, then other people do feel more confident in coming forward.' Childs said her union had also been approached with further revelations. Production firm Banijay previously said Wallace was 'committed to fully co-operating' with the external review, while his lawyers had previously strongly denied 'he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature'. The most recent series of MasterChef: The Professionals continued to air last year amid allegations against Wallace, but two MasterChef celebrity Christmas specials were pulled from the BBC's schedule in December 2024. Speaking at the time, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said she would look to impose new standards in the creative industry amid the allegations.

Punk act Bob Vylan to play last-minute gig amid police investigations
Punk duo Bob Vylan have announced a last-minute gig at London's 100 Club on Wednesday night amid two police investigations into the band. The pair are being investigated by Avon and Somerset Police in the UK over their Glastonbury Festival set, which saw frontman Bobby Vylan, whose real name is reportedly Pascal Robinson-Foster, 34, lead crowds in chants of "death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)" during their livestreamed performance. The Ipswich-formed duo, who also include drummer Bobbie Vylan, are also being investigated by London's Met Police for alleged comments in a video of their performance supporting Iggy Pop at Alexandra Palace in May. In the video, Vylan appears to say: "Death to every single IDF soldier out there as an agent of terror for Israel. Death to the IDF." The new show at the venue in London's Oxford Street was announced in a short Instagram post, which saw them tell followers: "We play 100 Club tonight. On sale now." Over the years, the 350-capacity 100 Club has hosted gigs by The Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Stranglers and The Damned. Following their Glastonbury performance, the band have had their US visas revoked, ahead of their US tour later this year, were pulled from their Saturday headline slot at Radar festival in Manchester, and from an upcoming performance at a German music venue. Their agency United Talent Agency (UTA) has also reportedly dropped them following the comments and appears to have removed the act from their official website. The group issued a statement last week claiming they were being "targeted for speaking up." Bob Vylan are still expected to perform at the Boardmasters surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, in August. According to reports in The Times, the BBC's director of music Lorna Clarke was among a group of senior staff who have stepped back from their day-to-day roles after controversy over the broadcaster's decision to show Bob Vylan's set live. Their Glastonbury Festival set came directly before Irish rap trio Kneecap performed on the West Holts Stage. Formed in 2017, Bob Vylan are known for addressing political issues in their albums including racism, masculinity and class.
