Thief hides 76 bottles of stolen wine in wheelie bin and flees in tuk-tuk
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A tuk-tuk driver was caught on CCTV using a wheelie bin to steal 76 bottles of wine in thefts that amounted to £24,000. Iuliu Kubola broke into a restaurant in central London on May 6 before loading the haul into his pedicab and cycling away. The 61-year-old was arrested when a vigilant police officer recognised him as a person of interest following a police briefing. PC Jordan Felstead stopped the Islington resident outside a bar in the Cornhill financial heartland on June 22. After making enquiries with the City of London Police's Criminal Investigations Department, he discovered that Kubola was a suspect connected to a spate of burglaries. He had been seen on CCTV taking the bottles of wine, putting them into the bin and loading it into the back of his pedicab. Kubola returned to the Threadneedle Street restaurant on June 15 to steal a further three bottles, worth around £680. He went back four days later but left without taking anything. Det Con Marcus Fairclough, of the Criminal Investigation Department, said: 'Thanks to the good work by our officers, who spotted him and quickly made enquiries and the arrest, Iuliu Kubola will face the consequences of his criminality. 'Burglary has a significant impact on businesses and residential communities. 'We will attend all reports of break-ins in the city; giving us the best chance of making an arrest and collecting evidence from a scene. 'We will always take this type of criminality seriously and thoroughly investigate all evidential leads, including forensics, to bring those perpetrators to justice.' Kubola damaged an external door and locks, costing £1,425 to repair. Physical forensics manager Andrew Walker said: 'Our fast response is vital to maximise forensic opportunities and lessen the impact on the victims. 'Being burgled is horrendous; not being able to tidy up or open your business and resume trading exacerbates this massively. More Trending 'The victim is at the heart of everything we do. Delivering them justice, whilst minimising the impact that crime has on them, is the bedrock on which City of London Police Forensic Services operates.' City of London Police said it is one of the few forces where scenes of crimes officers go to every incident where forensics can be recovered and it does not screen out 'low level' crime. Kubola will be sentenced in September. Do you have a story you would like to share? EastEnders star confirms different side to Oscar as things take a turn
Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) is set to do something 'awful' to Peter Beale (Thomas Law) in EastEnders next week. The newcomer has made quite the impact on Albert Square and viewers alike ever since he arrived in the BBC One soap last week. Sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) was forced to take him in after being released from a three-month stretch in a young offenders institute, where he'd spent time for joyriding. Their mum Tanya (Jo Joyner) had made it clear that he wasn't welcome to return to her house as a result of the dodgy characters he was hanging around with. When Oscar tipped off the police about their involvement in the car robbery, they attempted to petrol bomb his property, mistakenly targeting the neighbours instead. Despite his attempts to escape his brutish mates, they've tracked him down to Walford and are seeking revenge. 'Oscar feels threatened as Mike (Tai Hilferink) is a serious guy who doesn't seem to care about getting caught or the consequences,' actor Pierre told us. 'Since he arrived in the Square, Oscar has been all fun and games, but you'll see another side of him this week because Mike wants to make him suffer for what he's done!' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video And Pierre's right – next week's episodes see him launch an attack on an apparent intruder, believing it's Mike. Lauren learns that the thug has been threatening Oscar, and has left a knife as a way of threatening him. She reckons that their their uncle Jack (Scott Maslen) should be alerted for protection. 'Oscar believes getting Jack involved will only make things worse because if Mike finds out that there's a policeman in his family, he'll be even more on [his] case,' Pierre explains. 'I think that because Oscar is a smooth talker and he's been getting himself out of tight spots all his life, he believes he can do it again…' Things soon kick off, and Jack's forced to intervene. Lauren gives her brother a final warning, but that night, his paranoia intensifies when he hears a noise coming from the hallway. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Sneaking up on a hooded figure, he goes in to attack – unaware that it's actually Peter Beale (Thomas Law) in his dressing gown. 'It's so awful for Oscar when he realises that he's done this to Peter, who has been kind enough to take him in. More Trending 'Oscar plays lots of games with people, but deep down, he'll do anything for the people he cares for, and Peter has become one of those people, so this is awful.' And, despite Oscar receiving his marching orders, Pierre reckons there could be one saving grace. 'No matter how many times he messes up, Lauren is still there for him and backing him, which really surprises him. Masked hooligans shoot flares and chuck iron slabs in violent football clash
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Masked football hooligans battered each other with fireworks, golf clubs and iron slabs in a massive fight. Young fans of Bohemians FC and Derry City FC violently clashed before the two teams played each other in Derry, Northern Ireland. At least two men, including one teenager, were injured in the fighting on Friday. In one video, the two groups of youths, wearing masks, hoodies and tracksuits, clashed on either side of a metal fence. One man shoots an endless stream of fireworks 'like a machine gun' at the rival supporters. At the same time, his pals chuck heavy objects over the fence and wave golf clubs. It is at this moment that a little girl can be heard screaming 'Daddy' to an unidentified man. The gut-wrenching cry gets a reply of 'you're all right', before he tells the fighting youngsters: 'Calm down lads'. While some scatter from the missiles coming towards them, some youths on the other side of the fence attack back as the situation escalates. They pick up heavy slabs and throw them back over the railings. Footage from other parts of Derry show huge groups of masked young men attacking each other. Many throw planks of wood, and one can be heard shouting: 'Give it to 'em'. Following the violent scenes, the Police Service for Northern Ireland released a statement about the fights between some supporters of Bohemians FC and Derry City FC. They said the disorder kicked off at 7pm around Lecky Road and Lone Moor Road areas of Derry. It came as the second and third placed teams in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland faced-off. A teenage boy and a man in his 20s were injured in the clashes, which continued throughout the game around the Brandywell stadium. The match was even stopped for five minutes when a flare set fire to the artificial pitch. Superintendent William Calderwood said: 'We believe that the disorder we witnessed on Friday evening was pre-arranged and we will be reviewing all available footage to identify those involved.' They asked for people to come forward to help with their investigations. No arrests have been made and stadium staff helped to quell the violence. More Trending The football fixture itself ended in a 1-1 draw, with the goals scored shortly before and after half-time respectively. The game was peaceful, in contrast to the scenes outside, with only three yellow cards and no red cards handed out. Local representative Mark H Durkan said the violence had 'all the hallmarks of an organised attack' and said the fighting 'must stop before someone is killed.' He added: 'It is disgusting and disgraceful that so many football fans and families left the match in fear tonight due to violent clashes that occurred outside in what had all the hallmarks of an organised attack.'
