CM Yogi assessed the preparations for the Kanwar Mela at the temple and sought detailed updates from district magistrate Deepak Meena regarding the arrangements for the influx of Kanwariyas, said officials of the UP information department.
'CM Yogi also inquired about the progress of the Dudheshwar Nath temple corridor being developed under the tourism department within the temple premises. After visiting the temple, CM Yogi proceeded to the Ghaziabad police lines, from where he boarded a helicopter to shower flower petals on Kanwariyas travelling along routes passing through various districts of western UP, especially near the borders of Muzaffarnagar and Meerut,' said officials.
'CM Yogi expressed satisfaction about the arrangements taken up for Kanwar Yatra and Kanwariyas in Ghaziabad. We also briefed him about the progress of the temple corridor, for which several old shops need to be shifted out. We will also hold a meeting in this regard within a week, and further progress is expected soon,' said district magistrate Deepak Meena.
The temple corridor in Ghaziabad is expected to be built on the lines of the corridor in Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi.
While in Meerut district, CM Yogi warned of strict action against any attempt to disrupt the Yatra.
'It is the responsibility of every Kanwar sangh and every Shiv bhakt to expose such elements and immediately inform the authorities. The entire Yatra route is under CCTV surveillance, and once the Yatra concludes, strict action will be taken against those identified. Their posters will also be displayed publicly,' said CM Yogi in a statement issued by the department.
CM Yogi while taking a dig at the previous governments said that before 2017, such pilgrimages were neither supported nor respected, but they were obstructed.
'Today, with a government that values and protects faith, it is the collective duty of all devotees to carry forward this tradition with peace and respect. If anyone receives information about any such person, they should inform the administration instead of taking the law into their own hands,' said CM Yogi.
Reacting to CM Yogi's statements, Samajwadi Party's district president Faizal Hussain, said, 'The Kanwar Yatra went on peacefully during previous years and previous governments, and it was never stopped. People of different faiths have always supported and contributed towards it. Political statements should be avoid during religious events. But, it is the habit of the BJP leaders to play divisive politics. They will never raise and listen to the issues of unemployment, poverty, lack of education facilities and healthcare which largely affect the common man.'

Sangli suicide: No dues owed as he was a sub-contractor, says govt

MUMBAI A day after a Sangli-based contractor died by suicide allegedly over pending dues of ₹ 1.40 crore for work related to the state's Jal Jeevan Mission, the government claimed he was a sub-contractor, and not appointed by the government. (Representative photo) (HT) A day after a Sangli-based contractor died by suicide allegedly over pending dues of ₹1.40 crore for work related to the state's Jal Jeevan Mission, the government claimed he was a sub-contractor, and not appointed by the government. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and contractors' body have however termed the death as 'murder, a consequence of mismanagement of the state's finances'. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, 'The incident is unfortunate, but he was a sub-contractor and the government had no role in paying his fees. There is a process for releasing contractors' bills. We will, however, probe the death.' While minister of water supply and sanitation, Gulabrao Patil, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, concurred with Pawar, officials from the department told HT anonymously that payment of dues amounting to ₹3200 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission was sent to the finance department in June, which responded only a few days ago citing paucity of funds for their inability to release the money. Opposition, assn criticize govt Maharashtra State Contractors' Association expressed displeasure over statements by Pawar and Patil, and shared details with HT about the deceased having completed four schemes for the project in Walwa and two in Shirala tehsils, and was indeed debt ridden. 'It is insensitive to see ministers washing their hands off the incident just because he was a sub-contractor. For the last one year, all contractors and associations have been raising their voice against pending dues. Yet, the government has not held any meeting over the issue related to the state's finances,' said Milind Bhosale, president of the association. Slamming the government, MVA leaders pointed to funds being diverted for populist schemes such as the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called it 'murder' and sought the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Mr Prime Minister, look at this innocent face. He took his life yesterday. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he completed works worth ₹1.40 crore, taking a loan of ₹80 lakh. But the government hasn't paid his dues, forcing him to take this extreme step,' Raut posted on X. Taking a dig at Ladki Bahin spends, NCP (SP) chief spokesperson Jitendra Awhad said, 'The scheme is not viable for the government. Thousands of crores were allocated for it, which have affected other government expenditures. I request the chief minister to look into the matter personally.' 'After farmers, now contractors are dying by suicide,' said Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar. 'This government pays thousands of crores to big contractors but has no sympathy for small players working in each district for government schemes.'

'His Life's In Danger': Rabri Devi Alleges Conspiracy To Kill Tejashwi Yadav Amid Bihar SIR Row

Rabri Devi alleged that the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance was behind a conspiracy to assassinate Tejashwi Yadav amid growing protests over the controversial SIR exercise. As the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) continues protests over Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi made a shocking claim, alleging a bid to kill Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. While addressing the media, Rabri Devi raised serious allegations against the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance, claiming a conspiracy to assassinate Tejashwi Yadav amid growing protests over the controversial SIR exercise. 'We have been surrounding the Assembly since 5 days. The state government must respond… There have been four attempts to kill Tejashwi Yadav, and his life is in danger… The BJP and JD(U) are the ones who are conspiring," she said. Rabri Devi accused the BJP of snatching the people's right to vote. While the Election Commission insists that the SIR exercise is a routine, court-monitored process aimed at eliminating bogus voters, the opposition has claimed that it risks the disenfranchisement of millions, particularly migrant workers and economically vulnerable citizens who may struggle to meet document requirements. 'I know him since childhood… he used to do hooliganism at Boring Road. He used to harass girls at Boring Road," she said. Her remarks followed a heated altercation between Choudhary and Tejashwi Yadav in the Bihar Assembly on Thursday over the Election Commission's ongoing SIR process. The BJP leader targeted Tejashwi personally and said, 'Who are you? The one whose father is a criminal, what will he say? Get lost… you're a lootera – lootera… what will he say?" In response, Tejashwi Yadav said, 'If you speak too loudly, you'll get wet." The RJD leader later reiterated that the parties in the opposition alliance could boycott the upcoming elections in Bihar if the Election Commission's voter roll revision in Bihar was not stopped. The Bihar SIR row has been at the centre of opposition protests in the Parliament, resulting in five consecutive days of disruptions as MPs raised slogans and displayed placards demanding a rollback of the exercise. Elections are likely to be held in Bihar around October-November, as the term of the assembly ends in November.
