Bonalu transforms Lal Darwaza into a spectacle of faith, colour
Women, adorned in traditional attire and jewellery, carried bonams, decorated pots filled with cooked rice, milk and jaggery on their heads an offering symbolising gratitude and a prayer for protection from misfortune and disease. Alongside bonams, bangles and sarees were also presented to the deity.
The festive spirit extended across the lanes of Lal Darwaza, Hari Bowli, Sultan Shahi and neighbouring areas of the Old City. Temple committees had made extensive arrangements to manage the influx of devotees and ensure a seamless darshan.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar visited the Simhavahini Mahankali Temple, where they presented pattu vastralu (silk robes) to the deity. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy CM announced that the Telangana government has allocated ₹1,290 crore for the development and renovation of temples across the State.
'We are committed to enhancing the infrastructure and spiritual ambience of the Simhavahini Mahankali Temple and the surrounding area. The Bonalu festivities, which began on June 26, have so far been peaceful, thanks to the dedication of officials across departments,' he said.
Several other dignitaries also offered prayers to the goddess, including Adluri Laxman Kumar, Vakati Narayana Reddy, MPs Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Anil Kumar Yadav, Legislative Council Vice Chairman Banda Prakash, MLC K. Kavitha, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, Finance Commission Chairman Siricilla Rajaiah, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, TTD chairman B.R. Naidu, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Endowments Commissioner S. Venkat Rao, and Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari.
The Hyderabad Police made heavy security personnel and implemented strict traffic diversions in the Old City and other Bonalu hubs to ensure public safety and a smooth conduct of the festivities. With even larger crowds expected for the Simha Vaahini Sri Mahankali procession on Monday, several routes in the Old City will witness a shutdown of vehicular movement. In view of the celebrations, the State government has declared a public holiday on Monday for all educational institutions and government offices in Hyderabad.

Police, Forest officials not allowed to enter RoFR land: Deputy CM
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has said that Police and Forest officials were not allowed to enter the lands falling under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) category. He was chairing a review meeting with officials of both Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem at the Integrated District Offices Complex in Palvancha on Sunday. The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Animal Husbandry Minister and Khammam district in-charge Vakiti Srihari. It reviewed flood preparedness, implementation of welfare schemes and other key policy initiatives, official sources said. Addressing the review meeting, the Deputy CM said that farmers cultivating RoFR lands would be provided solar pump sets, sprinklers, drip irrigation systems and saplings of fruit crops, free of cost, under the Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme. The flagship scheme will benefit tribal farmers holding land titles under the RoFR Act across the State over the next three years. He emphasised that there is no shortage of urea and the government is taking all the necessary steps to meet the demand for urea in the current kharif season. He directed the officials to prepare plans to promote fish seed farming through women self-help groups in each district. The government is presently releasing 89 crore fish seed into water bodies annually by purchasing them from other areas, he noted, highlighting the vast potential for creation of livelihood and income generating opportunities for women by involving the SHGs in fish seed farming. He asked the officials to submit details of number of saplings planted under Vanamahotsavam programme over the past ten years, expenditure incurred and survival rate. Mr. Vikramarka instructed the officials to ensure quality food is served to students in Welfare and Gurukul schools in strict adherence to the prescribed menu and regular medical check-ups for students.

TTD to hold 6-day Ashtabandhana Mahotsavam in Vijayawada from today
Vijayawada: Marking the completion of 12 years since the consecration of Lord Bala Venkateswara Swamy at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Punnama Thota, Vijayawada, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will organise a six-day Ashtabandhana Mahasamprokshana Kumbabhisheka Mahotsavam from July 26 to 31 at the temple premises. Addressing the media on Friday, temple head priest Murali Krishna, following the advice of TTD Agama pandits, announced the six-day Ashtabandhana Mahotsavam. This customary ritual is performed every 12 years in TTD temples, during which priests undertake repair works inside the temple's sanctum sanctorum and on idols, if required. Murali Krishna said the Mahotsavam will be held on a grand scale amidst spiritual fervour, under the supervision of priests from TTD Tirumala. It will begin with Vastu Shanti and Akalmasha Homam, performed from 8:30 am to 10:30 am on July 26, followed by Ankurarpanam from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm the same day. The priest further informed that darshan of the presiding deity, Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy, will be suspended during the event, as the idols will be temporarily moved from the sanctum sanctorum to the Homa Gundam in Yagashala.
