Chris Paul agrees to deal with Clippers ahead of 21st NBA season: Report
Chris Paul has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. A 12-time All-Star, Paul will join Los Angeles for his first 21st NBA season. He played with San Antonio Spurs on a 1-year, $10.9 million contract last season. Paul entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and one of the best available point guards available. In fact, after Fred VanVleet re-signed with the Houston Rockets, Paul was Yahoo Sports' top-ranked free-agent point guard. While he's no longer a high-level scorer, Paul remains an effective floor general and distributor at 40 years old. And he's coming off his healthiest season in years. Paul played in and started each of San Antonio's 82 games last season. Paul averaged a career-low 8.8 points per game in 2024-25. But he remained one of basketball's best playmakers with averages of 7.4 assists and 1.6 turnovers per game. When called upon to shoot, he was efficient from long distance with a 37.7% success rate on 4.5 3-point attempts per game. And the six-time steals champion remained a factor on defense while averaging 1.3 steals per game. In short, Paul may not be what he was at his peak, which is arguably the greatest pure point guard of his generation on both sides of the ball. But he remains an impact player and one of the league's most respected veteran voices on and off the floor.

Should Boston Celtics fans be upset that Marcus Smart will sign with Lakers?
On Saturday, July 19, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that former Boston Celtics fan favorite, Marcus Smart, had agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards. Charania also noted that Smart, 31, plans to sign a two-year $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, meaning he will join his former team's most bitter rivals. Smart left the Celtics in the summer of 2023, after being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a 3-team deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the TD Garden. Since leaving the Celtics, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year has struggled to stay healthy. However, that hasn't stopped the Lakers from rolling the dice on a player who used to split opinion among the Celtics fan base. Shortly after the news of Smart's buyout and agreement with the Lakers emerged, the "Taylor Talks Celtics" podcast provided an immediate reaction. The hosts dove into what Smart could bring to the Lakers, why the deal makes sense for JJ Redick's team, and how difficult it will be for Celtics fans to see a former favorite now donning the Purple and Gold while trying to contend for a championship. Kelly Clarkson Duets With Daughter River Rose on ‘Heartbeat Song' During Vegas Residency Show
Kelly Clarkson turned her Friday night (July 18) performance at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace into a family affair. During her Studio Sessions residency gig, the talk show host and pop superstar invited 11-year-old daughter River Rose out to join her on stage for a very special duet. In an Instagram post of the mommy-daughter moment, Clarkson wrote, 'Last night we had a very special guest, my daughter River Rose, joined us for 'Heartbeat Song.' It's her favorite song,' alongside an image of her kneeling down on stage to touch foreheads with her eldest child. More from Billboard 8 Best Moments From the Opening Night of Kelly Clarkson's 'Studio Sessions' Las Vegas Residency Tyler, The Creator Releases 'Don't Tap the Glass' Album: Stream It Now Billy Corgan Reacts to MCR's Cover of Smashing Pumpkins Classic In a video posted by a fan, River Rose walks out on stage and gives her mom a big hug before Clarkson tells the crowd, 'we're gonna do her favorite song.' Snuggling up to the tween — who, like her famous mother was wearing dark wash jeans and a bedazzled T-shirt — Clarkson told River Rose she looked 'super cute' before revved the band up to play the lead 2015 single from her seventh studio album, Piece by Piece. River Rose hung in there like a champ, doubling Clarkson's vocals and swaying along in unison as she smiled and belted out the song, even holding a big note at the end that made the singer smile proudly. Staring into each other's eyes and touching foreheads, mother and daughter landed the plane while joyfully singing the chorus in unison. 'This is my heartbeat song and I'm gonna play it/ Been so long, I forgot how to turn it/ Up, up, up, up all night long/ Up, up all night long,' they sang, bouncing in place together as the band dropped out and the two sang the chorus one more time while giving a sweet boop finger tap to each other's foreheads. In a testament to a life lived with a pop star mom, River Rose gave the crowd a sassy power pose after hugging Clarkson, who asked the crowd to 'give it up for River Rose y'all, c'mon!' before planting a kiss on the tween's cheek as she walked off. Back in 2023 during her first Vegas residency run at the Bakkt Theater, Clarkson first told the crowd that 'Heartbeat Song' was River's favorite, bringing the then 9-year-old out on stage to belt the tune out. 'She's been jamming to this song since she was a baby,' Clarkson told her fans back then. In addition to River Rose, Clarkson shares son Remington 'Remy' Alexander, 9, with ex Brandon Blackstock. Clarkson will be back on stage at the Colosseum on Friday (July 25).
