Sabah governor urges integrity, honours 60 at investiture

KOTA KINABALU: Integrity must be upheld across all levels of administration and leadership in Sabah to maintain public trust in government institutions, said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.
He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being.
'I believe with strong leadership and the support of the people, Sabah will continue to grow and prosper,' he said in a special address in conjunction with his 74th official birthday here today.
He delivered the address at the 2025 Sabah Investiture Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, where 60 individuals received state awards, medals and honours.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other state leaders.
Tun Musa emphasised the need to strengthen development efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress, through close cooperation between the government and the people.
He also stressed the importance of addressing global challenges through progressive approaches, including the promotion of technological innovation, development of quality human capital, and the building of a resilient economy
'Building a dynamic and competitive society is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state's development,' he said.
He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah.
Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda.
Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led today's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'.
Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK.
A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang.
Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau.
The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title.
Earlier, Musa, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, attended the parade held in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah at Padang Merdeka.

Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin, who chaired the meeting, said discussions at the senior officials' level went smoothly and that preparations for the Foreign Ministers' Meeting are already underway. 'Hopefully, we have four more days, from Tuesday to Friday, to complete the full series of meetings, 'This includes the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat, and the ASEAN Plus One Post-Ministerial Conference with Dialogue Partners,' he told reporters after the SEANWFZ (Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Treaty) meeting, which was held immediately after the SOM on Monday. He said that Malaysia, as this year's ASEAN Chair, will also convene trilateral meetings involving the ASEAN Secretariat and four countries – Norway, Switzerland, Brazil, and Turkiye. Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from fellow ASEAN member states and dialogue partner countries. Today's meeting was attended by secretaries-general and senior representatives from the foreign ministries of ASEAN member states, who discussed preparations for the 58th AMM and related meetings. They also deliberated on key issues expected to be raised and highlighted during the upcoming sessions.

SHAH ALAM, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor State Legislative Assembly was briefed today on the progress of the Hulu Langat Flood Mitigation Project Phase 2, now in the detailed design phase. State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said once the design phase is complete, the project will proceed with land acquisition and utility relocation before physical construction begins, which is expected to start in 2027. 'The project covers several areas, including Kajang town, Kampung Sungai Serai, Kampung Sungai Lui, Kampung Dusun Tua, Taman Sri Nanding, Taman Sri Jelok, and Kampung Sungai Kantan. 'The work involves river deepening, constructing embankments and water gates, as well as installing pumps and building water retention ponds,' he said during the assembly sitting here today. He was responding to an oral question from Datuk Johan Abd Aziz (BN-Dusun Tua) regarding the status of the Hulu Langat flood mitigation plan. The project, part of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), entails the construction of Phase 2, Package 1 of the Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation Plan in Hulu Langat District, with a budget allocation of RM512 million. -- BERNAMA

The Malaysian capital takes centre stage on the international diplomatic calendar this week as it hosts the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related sessions from July 8 to 11 under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', in line with Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the high-level event gathers over 40 foreign ministers and representatives from ASEAN member states and external partners, with the exception of Myanmar, which will be represented by a senior foreign ministry official. Timor-Leste will attend as an observer. Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin confirmed full attendance from ASEAN's dialogue partners, reflecting global interest in the bloc's strategic role. Among the key attendees are US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Malaysia is also expected to announce the accession of two new countries from Africa and South America to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) during the meetings. A total of 24 ASEAN-level meetings, including bilateral sessions with partners such as Australia, the EU, Japan, South Korea, India, the UK, and others will be chaired by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
