The Framingham, Massachusetts native would play the first season of his NBA career with Boston, coming to an end when he was was picked up by the (then) San Diego (now, Houston) Rockets in the 1967 NBA expansion draft.

Kendrick Perkins challenges Karl-Anthony Towns to drop 15 pounds: ‘You going to be ready'
Kendrick Perkins has a suggestion for Karl-Anthony Towns. The former NBA-veteran-turned-ESPN-analyst laid into the polarizing Knicks big during his 'Perk Unplugged' show by bluntly advising Towns. 'Karl-Anthony Towns, if I was you, I'd go lose me about 15 pounds… You get 15 pounds off of you, bro, and you stay consistent… It's going to be smoke. Boy, you going to be ready. I'm telling y'all, man. I'm looking forward,' Perkins said. Advertisement Karl-Anthony Towns Jason Szenes / New York Post Perkins stressed that shedding weight isn't just cosmetic, suggesting it could significantly enhance Towns' lateral quickness and on-ball defense under new coach Mike Brown, whom the Knicks hired earlier this week. Perkins argued that conditioning, not talent, remains the only thing holding KAT back defensively. Advertisement The former Celtic has expertise in this arena, given that he was listed between 270 to 280 pounds for the bulk of his NBA tenure. NBAE via Getty Images Towns, who turns 30 in November, posted strong numbers in 2024–25, averaging 24.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game across 72 regular-season outings, shooting 37.1 percent from three. But his defense remained a glaring weakness, especially in the playoffs, magnified in the Knicks' Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement Towns averaged 21.4 points and 11.6 rebounds on 49 percent shooting and 35 percent from three during the playoffs. In his first year as a Knick, Towns was also named All-NBA for the third time in his career, and an All-Star for the fifth time. This past season, the Knicks finished just 14th in team defensive rating, their second-worst margin under former coach Tom Thibodeau.

Grizzlies Announce Trade With Warriors on Sunday
Grizzlies Announce Trade With Warriors on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Memphis Grizzlies are making moves in the offseason after their first round playoff loss to eventual NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder. Following the subpar campaign, Memphis has been aggressive in reconstructing its roster around superstars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. by adding young defensive talent and improving backcourt depth after moving on from key veteran guard Desmond Bane. Advertisement So far this summer, the Grizzlies have made several notable moves through the draft and trade market, including shuffling future draft picks and bringing in prospects who fit the franchise's trademark defensive identity. The front office is adding versatile, high-motor players to complement Morant and Jackson Jr. as the franchise looks to stay competitive in a loaded Western Conference. Memphis Grizzlies former guard Yuki Kawamura, forward Jaylen Wells and guard Ja Morant© Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images On Sunday, Memphis announced its latest move — a previously reported deal with the Golden State Warriors that gives the Grizzlies the draft rights to Jahmai Mashack. According to the team's official announcement, Golden State traded Mashack's rights to Memphis in exchange for the rights to Justinian Jessup and a top-50 protected 2032 second-round pick. The Warriors made the swap after jumping three spots in the second round to select Florida guard Will Richard at No. 56, while Memphis received Mashack, originally taken No. 59 overall. Advertisement Mashack arrives in Memphis known for his defensive tenacity and high-energy playing style. The 6-foot-4 guard made his mark at Tennessee, earning SEC All-Defensive Team honors this past season while averaging 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Known for his toughness and his willingness to guard multiple positions, Mashack projects as a high-energy role player who fits Memphis's physical style. While he wasn't the flashiest prospect on draft boards, Mashack's work ethic and defensive upside could make him a valuable piece for the Grizzlies' rotation as they reload for next season. He also brings an inspiring backstory of resilience, having overcome Guillain-Barré syndrome as a child to become a standout defender in the SEC.
