Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik visited Rangia, Missamari, Thakurbari, and Tezpur military stations in Assam as part of his ongoing engagement with the armed forces in the region.
During his three-day tour, Parnaik interacted with officers, troops, and military leadership, sharing insights from his extensive operational experience. His visit concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at the 4 Corps War Memorial on Friday, according to an official statement from Raj Bhavan.
A former northern Army commander and ex-corps commander of IV Corps, Tezpur, Parnaik emphasised strategic foresight and readiness, urging troops to stay vigilant and resolute amid the region's sensitive border dynamics.
"Stay vigilant, stay resolute, and always be one step ahead of adversarial forces," he urged.
He encouraged officers to think beyond conventional frameworks when addressing evolving security threats, stressing the importance of perception management in forward areas and enhancing combat skills.
Parnaik also highlighted the critical role of armed forces in collaborating with civil administration, particularly for the successful implementation of the vibrant villages programme.
He noted the programme's positive impact, citing improved infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, and essential services that are reversing outmigration trends.
"When development reaches the doorstep of our border communities, it strengthens the frontiers of our nation," he said.
Appreciating the Sadbhavana (goodwill) initiatives undertaken by the Army, Parnaik commended efforts in community development, education, and healthcare. He urged officers and troops to inspire local youth to pursue careers in the armed forces.

Long-range precision hits had psychological impact on Pakistan: CDS

NEW DELHI: Long-range precision strikes during the cross-border hostilities in May caused "a huge psychological impact" in Pakistan, chief of defence staff General Anil Chauhan said on Tuesday, reiterating that Operation Sindoor had not yet been called off. The CDS emphasised the need to adapt swiftly to disruptive technologies, rethink legacy structures and prioritise synergy across the Army, Navy and IAF to tackle the challenges emanating from the constantly evolving nature of warfare. "War and politics are closely related. Wars are often fought to achieve political purposes. Today, we see very short, precise wars - like in Operation Sindoor - where political goals are achieved through rapid and targeted action," the CDS said at the inaugural edition of the Annual Trident Lecture Series organised by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies. Noting that "domination" through impact and effect is the new norm, the CDS said Operation Sindoor was not undertaken to capture territory or prisoners of war. "There were very long-range precision strikes (at selected targets). The impact was important. Physical was less, but the psychological impact was much more. (India) could hit very, very deep inside with precision," he said. "It created a huge impact psychologically, displaying sophistication and superiority. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo This is the matrix of victory today, it has nothing to do with territory. This is how domination is changing," he added. In keeping with the "new norms" laid down by the govt, the CDS said the Indian armed forces need to maintain "a very high order" of operational preparedness around-the-clock. Cross-border terrorism will get the appropriate response from India and terrorists can no longer find safe haven within Pakistan, he said.

Army says no ceasefire violation along LoC

NEW DELHI: The Army on Tuesday said there has been no ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. "There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been no ceasefire violation along the LoC. Please avoid spreading unverified information," the Army said in a statement here. Earlier, official sources in Jammu said the Pakistan Army had on Tuesday evening indulged in "unprovoked" firing on forward Indian posts along the LoC, prompting strong retaliation by the Indian Army. The exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector but there was no immediate report of any casualties, the sources had said, adding it was the first instance of ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J-K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone.

TN governor refers Kalaignar University bill, another to President

R N Ravi CHENNAI: Amid an ongoing legal dispute between Tamil Nadu govt and the Raj Bhavan, governor RN Ravi has referred to President Droupadi Murmu two bills, including one to establish Kalaignar University and another to amend the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University Act to empower govt to appoint and remove the vice-chancellor of the sports varsity. These were among the 18 bills passed by the state legislature during the Budget session that concluded in April. Ravi gave assent to 16 of these bills following a Supreme Court order that set deadlines for such actions. "The governor has informed state govt about sending the two pending bills to the president," said a source. The governor is still sitting on two bills passed last year, one on fiscal responsibilities and the other on cooperative societies. DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson accused the governor of defying the top court's order and the advice of the chief minister and the council of ministers and called for him to be sacked. "This action poses a serious threat to parliamentary democracy. The governor displays continuous blatant disregard for the Constitution and the highest constitutional court."
