Kelly Wickramasuriya, 24, packed her bags and moved to Thailand at just 21, expecting to run out of money within weeks.

But now she lives between Bali and Dubai, enjoying year-round sunshine, luxury apartments and a life she says is miles away from her old one.
Kelly said: 'I find the UK super depressing.
'People are always complaining and have a victim mindset.'
Originally from Essex, Kelly says she was stuck in a rut, working long shifts at an Italian restaurant in Covent Garden, scraping by on low wages and only going out for special occasions.
'I couldn't afford the amount of hobbies I have right now,' she said.
'Back then, my big treat was going to the pub at the weekend. Now, I do acroyoga, take singing classes and learn languages – all under the sun.'
After graduating from uni in 2022, Kelly booked a one-way ticket to Thailand, hoping to travel for the summer before reality pulled her back home.
She added: 'I had £1,000 in my account. I thought I'd be sofa-surfing back in the UK by the end of the month.
'But I was desperate not to go back.'
Instead, she scoured the internet for ways to make money remotely and stumbled across user-generated content (UGC) creation, filming videos for brands to post on social media.

Kelly explained: 'I started creating content for brands and it just took off. I'm now earning five times what I made as a waitress."
These days, her 'office' is wherever she wants.
It could be a sunbed in Bali, her Dubai apartment balcony or a beachfront café in Thailand.
She also travels regularly to Australia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
Her day-to-day routine is a far cry from her old life in grey, chilly London.
She added: 'I wake up with no alarm, meditate for an hour, then hit the gym or grab breakfast at a cute café.
"I work a few hours and then I'm off to a class or hobby, whatever I feel like.'
Kelly says the shift in her mental health since leaving the UK has been huge and it's not just the sunshine that's helped.
'The people and the energy are totally different.
"Everyone is friendlier and happier. It rubs off on you. In the UK, it's cold and people are just miserable.'
Despite missing her loved ones, Kelly insists her relationships haven't suffered.
She said: 'We FaceTime all the time, and they come out to visit me. My best friends are now scattered all over the world and I love that.'
She's even inspired her family to follow in her footsteps.
She said: 'My mum started UGC too, she's 55, has a full-time job and managed to fly herself out to see me. If she can do it, anyone can.'
And while she'll occasionally pop back to Essex to visit, Kelly says her future is firmly overseas.
'I'll go home to see family for a month every year or two but that's it. The UK is one of the most depressing countries in the world.
"After living abroad, I completely get why.'
She added: 'It's really not hard to change your life. If it doesn't work out, you can always go back – but I know I never will.'
She's not the only Brit trading dreary, concrete skylines for golden sands.
A young woman recently revealed how her health improved after she moved from the UK to Dubai, saying life at home was 'making her sick'.

With her body 'crying out for change', she decided to try life in sunnier climes and jetted off to Dubai for a new life in January and has never looked back.

Unsurprisingly, the comments didn't go down well with her two million-plus YouTube subscribers who said she was 'out of touch', 'tone-deaf' and 'always moaning'. One former fan summed up the controversy by pointing to her slew of holidays and brand endorsements this year, writing: 'She's a millionaire. She can literally wake up tomorrow and do whatever the hell she wants.' On Sunday, Molly-Mae gave a tearful defence in a separate video: 'I don't care who tells me I am out of touch with reality or all this stuff that's going on on TikTok at the minute... I don't care. QUEEN Of THE TV SCREEN On May 9, she released the second part of her documentary series, Molly-Mae: Behind It All. DON'T FORGET THE TENT PEGS That same month, she swapped the five-star hotel stays for a motorhome holiday to the Isle of Man with Tommy and Bambi. This year Tommy revealed that he had bought the swanky Elddis Avalon 255 motorhome – which costs £86,995 – because he had wanted Bambi to know 'the meaning of normal, which is... a nice camping holiday'. But it wasn't quite happy camping. In a YouTube video last week, Molly-Mae said the trip had been blighted by delays, leaving Bambi 'overtired and overstimulated' and herself 'having a breakdown'. AND THAT'S NOT ALL... Alongside all her summer trips, has been seen racing to her regular nail, hair and therapy appointments. Fortnite streamer forced to ban 15-year-old fan from his Twitch chat after he donated him $36,000
As technology and social media become increasingly embedded in our lives, people become more fearful as to how it may affect people - specifically younger generations. And as a popular Twitch streamer learned, children who are given unlimited access online tend to make some questionable decisions. Cody Conrod, or 'Clix,' is a popular pro Fortnite streamer with more than eight million followers. This means that he plays the online game on a live stream, all while interacting with subscribers and fans. These fans have the ability to donate real money to streamers, usually as an indication that they enjoy their content. While this is typically something a streamer would be happy about, Clix found himself in a situation where he was contemplating sending the money back to a viewer. Reddit users reposted a clip from Clix's stream, along with the title 'Fortnite Streamer Clix bans a 14-year-old in his Twitch chat for donating over $36,000 to him in a month.' After listening to the clip, it's revealed that the fan, Lucas, is 15 years old and donated $35,000 to streamers. Clix tries to make sense of the situation. 'You [made] $18K profit this year, you spent $35K on streamers, and now you want to quit the one thing that's making you revenue after you just spent all your money?' Clix asked the boy, incredulous. From the conversation, one can surmise that this 15-year-old boy is also a streamer who makes a good amount of profit - but also uses double that on other streamers. The boy confirms this information and says, 'Yeah, 'cause I don't enjoy it.' 'Dude, I don't want to promote refunds... but like, bro. Why the f**k did you spend $35,000?' Clix continued. Clix then tells Lucas that he makes 'millions and millions' of dollars but still wouldn't donate 'more than $2,000' to streamers a month. Lucas goes on to explain that he gets a 'dopamine rush' anytime a streamer says his name - 'it's addicting,' he said. In response, Clix first asks Lucas if his parents are 'financially stable' and then 'financially well,' and Lucas responds 'Yeah' to both.' When asked why he finally stopped, Lucas admits that his father found out and was 'annoyed.' From the clip, it's hard to tell what Clix ended up doing in the situation since he said goodbye to Lucas and the young fan said he was going to bed, but based on the title of the Reddit thread, it's assumed that he eventually banned the streamer for the irresponsible behavior. And Reddit users agreed with action while in disbelief that a teenager would have access to that much money - and then spend it so frivolously. 'This is my question. Where's this money coming from? Because if it's his parents' money, how have they not noticed?!' one Reddit user said. 'Kid donated my yearly salary to a streamer over the course of a month... Jesus Christ,' another added. 'Kids are f***ing stupid and have access to mom and dads credit card. What do you expect?' one user said, summarizing the situation. 'Plus, this type of media glorifies it because you can be seen in front of thousands of others, generating a false sense of popularity.'
