It's official: Singapore is home to one of the most beautiful outdoor cinemas in the world

Time Out17-07-2025
We knew it, and now the world does too. Singapore has officially landed a spot on Time Out's list of the world's most beautiful outdoor cinemas – coming in hot at 11th place, thanks to the stunning Hendrick's Sunset Cinema. With its breezy beachfront setting at Tanjong Beach, pre-show live DJ show, coastal cuisine from nearby Tanjong Beach Club, immersive silent disco-style experience, and free-flow vibes, it's no surprise this alfresco film affair always sells out. Top spot went to Sydney's WestPac OpenAir – we'll happily concede to a cinema with front-row views of the Opera House and that unbeatable Aussie sunshine.
While this year's edition of Hendrick's Sunset Cinema has already wrapped, there's good news for cinephiles craving that under-the-stars kind of movie magic. The team behind the seaside screenings is bringing back its sister event: Films At The Fort, an open-air cinema experience set against the lush, green backdrop of Fort Canning Park.
The event runs from August 21 to September 7, with a nightly lineup of acclaimed films and cult classics. This year's buzz-worthy titles include The Life of Chuck, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, F1: The Movie, and all-time greats, including 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shawshank Redemption.
Instead of deck chairs, you get space to spread out your picnic blanket and settle in under the trees. You can also rent backrests for maximum comfort. Food-wise, you're in for a treat as The Prince, Firangi Superstar and Neon Pigeon come together to curate a menu that includes sweet and savoury popcorn, juicy beef burgers, flavourful kebab dishes, ice cream sandwiches, and more.

Tributes pour in as pioneering Australian musician dies

Tributes have flooded in for pioneering Australian musician Pete Carroll, who passed away earlier this week aged 82. The Victorian-born performer was a bass player for The Playboys, who were the backing band for 1960s Australian teen idol Normie Rowe. It was Pete's son Dan who broke the news on social media on Friday, revealing his dad died doing what he loved best – listening to music. 'It's with great sadness I tell the world that my Dad passed away at 1:06pm today listening to The Shadows' Apache, surrounded by his family,' Dan revealed. He also urged Pete's friends, family, and fans to 'turn up' the tunes as a way to remember the beloved Aussie muso. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'When there is a date and details for a service I will post it here. But please play some Buddy Holly for him today and turn it up,' he added. 'And thank you for all the messages and support so far. It means the world.' News of Pete's passing elicited a flood of tributes from friends, former bandmates and fans. Fellow musician Terry Dean, who played alongside Pete in the band The Mustangs, took to Facebook to share a sweet tribute to his mate. He posted a photo of The Mustangs on stage in the early 1960s, while offering a brief overview of Pete's illustrious career. 'Vale Peter. This photo of us from about '63 just appeared recently. He was a mighty bass player and, as a proud Glenroy boy, he was always happy to tell anyone that he was taught by local legend Peter Robinson. Great days,' Terry remembered. 'Pete left our group to join Normie Rowe and the Playboys!' Melbourne musician Mick Hamilton also took to Facebook in the wake of Pete's death to share a photo that showed him sitting next to the bass player on a stage next to another muso – Aaron Schembri. 'Another good man down. Mick captioned the image. Another post came from The Melbourne Debonairs – a group of music industry professionals who gather for lunches and social events. They shared a photo of a beaming Pete well and truly in his element - standing on stage with a Fender Precision bass slung over his shoulder. 'I don't know what is happening in this world, we've been losing so many of our old friends of late,' the post began. 'I've just gotten back in the office and received the news that Pete has passed. The post continued: 'Pete used to love coming to the Debonairs and catching up with some of his old band mates from the '60s and early '70s. I'm so down about this. My sincere condolences go out to Pete's family and friends.' After Pete parted ways with Normie Rowe and the Playboys, he continued to work as a freelance bass player before exiting the industry entirely. However, the music bug caught Pete again in 2014, when Normie phoned him to take part in a Playboys reunion - some forty years since he last picked up a bass guitar. 'He said: "Oh, I'd love to but I haven't got an instrument",' Normie told the Geelong Independent at the time. 'So he went out and bought himself a reissued 1963 Fender Jazzmaster bass and an amplifier. He made a damn good fist of it. Us old guys have got some energy left, I tell ya.' Pete is survived by his son Dan.

The rapper has travelled to the country for a headline concert this weekend but it seems he is making the most of his free time with wife Bianca whilst in the country. In the eye-popping clip, the couple can be seen dancing close with one another and surrounded by their pals. Strutting his stuff, Kanye had his hands above his head as he danced seductively with wife Bianca placing her hands around his body. The pair appeared to take a dip at the knees as his body began to lower onto hers whilst she stuck her tongue out playfully. Holding her tongue over the rapper's mouth, he soon stuck his own out as they caressed each other with their tongues in a public open-mouth kiss. Bianca appeared to be wearing a skimpy see-through top whilst Kanye kept his eyed hidden by a pair of shades. The couple haven't been spotted out in public as much over the last few weeks with Bianca instead turning up the head with a slew of seductive posts in barely-there underwear and outfits on Instagram. The Aussie model has been sharing several sets of Polaroid photos taken by her husband of late. In all of the snaps, Bianca is stood in front of a white backdrop while showing off her famous curves. Kanye West 'paid' Bianca Censori $100k to wear candy bra and thong in NYC after she 'first told him no' This November will mark the couple's third wedding anniversary. Shortly after Kanye's divorce from Kim Kardashian in 2022, the rapper began dating Bianca. The pair then got hitched just days after his divorce from the SKIMS founder was finalized. Since their nuptials, Kanye and Bianca often step out in sizzling and NSFW displays - often sparking backlash from the public and fans online. Bianca is often seen wearing very little clothing, and has her breasts and private regions on display while out and about. Bianca Censori and Kanye West's relationship Bianca Censori was born on January 5, 1995, in Melbourne, Australia Before her current full-time job, the 30-year-old started a jewelry company called Nylons after leaving high school. After working as a student architect for three years, she completed a master's degree between 2019 and 2020 ahead of moving to Los Angeles. In a radio interview, a childhood friend of Bianca's claimed that Kanye slid into her DMs on Instagram. The rapper reportedly said, "Come and work for me." At which point she says the designer moved to LA to join his company Yeezy as the "head of architecture" - and has been since November 2020. WEDDING BELLS On Friday, October 6, 2023, The Daily Mail reported Kanye and Bianca wed on December 20, 2022. The couple tied the knot under a "confidential marriage license" in the state of California. The two wed in Palo Alto, California, according to the document. The wedding came just one month after Kanye and Kim Kardashian finalized their divorce. 4 The couple are often known for their shocking displays Credit: X/Ye

The arty, colourful seaside town that is one of the best day trips from London

After a short bout of rain and thunderstorms, Londoners have been promised that the sun is on its way back to the capital. We're well into summer now, so there's every chance that you've now exhausted all there is to do in the city on a scorching hot day. The solution? Get out and go on a day trip. There's loads of wonderful places that are within easy reach of London – our expertly day trips curated list is packed with historic cities, cosy pastoral towns and charming villages perfect for whatever kind of excursion you fancy. If it's a seaside trip you're after, we've got just the place. Time Out named Whitstable our favourite day trip from London for summer 2025, but coming in close second was St Leonards-on-Sea. The smaller sister town to Hastings, St Leonards is a must-go destination all on its own. It was supposedly Queen Victoria's favourite coastal resort back in the 1800s and these days boasts a fab array of galleries, indie coffee shops, art deco architecture and antique treasure troves. Londoners can get to the town via an easy one hour and 18 minute train journey from Charing Cross, so there's really no excuse not to go and see it for yourself. Ella Doyle, Time Out's guides editor, said that St Leonards is a particularly delightful spot for foodies. She wrote: 'There's a reason so many Londoners moved to St Leonards-On-Sea during lockdown – it's a cracking day out from the Big Smoke for beachside drinks and a tonne of great food spots. 'Head to food market Heist (basically a much nicer version of Boxpark) for orange wine and street food, then sink pints at Goat Ledge, a vibey, colourful shack right on the beach. If you fancy splashing out a little, book dinner at the fabulously old-school St Clement's for white tablecloths and delicious seafood.' There's plenty more to do besides wining and dining, a bountiful cave of vintage treasures, stop by Teddy Tinkers and for a good dose of art, we recommend walking along the seafront to Hastings Contemporary. There you'll find rolling exhibitions from some of the world's leading contemporary artists, including the likes of Jake and Dinos Chapman and Sarah Lucas. here.
