Level Up Your Summer Style With a Scarf Skirt
As soon as I feel the first rays of sun hit my pasty skin after a long, blustery winter, I'm immediately struck by a primal urge to get rid of all of my clothes and start my closet afresh. It goes without saying that this is not sustainable—environmentally or financially. But this year, I've finally found a styling trick that keeps that desire at bay. Enter: the scarf skirt.
Recently, celebrities have been sporting silk scarves around their waists, be it as a skirt or over a pair of pants. Chloë Sevigny, like the trendsetter that she is, kicked things off with a Vaquera scarf, worn slung around her hip with an asymmetrical hem.
While Sevigny opted to show lots of leg, others prefer to wear theirs over trousers. On a walk through London, Alexa Chung offered an update on a simple white tee and businesslike gray trousers thanks to the brown Gucci scarf she wore over her pants. Alessandra Ambrosio had the same idea when she touched down at the Nice Airport ahead of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Breaking up an otherwise-all-white outfit, the model slung a pale pink printed silk triangle across her waist.

Beyond celebrity street style, the scarf skirt has several fans among the Vogue editorial staff. I, for one, like to interrupt an all-black outfit with a colorful silk scarf. Meanwhile, my colleague Laia Garcia-Furtado, Vogue Runway's senior fashion news editor, channels her inner Alanis Morissette. 'I always bring all these scarves with me when I travel and usually they never get worn but suddenly I figured out they could help me channel what I like to call Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie vibes, or how Alanis dressed after she came back from India (thank you, India!),' she says. 'I don't think of them as a skirt per se, but they're definitely a more low-key way to do a skirt or dress over pants, which is at the core of it all.'
So, for anyone feeling stuck in a fashion rut this summer, allow a scarf skirt to do the heavy lifting for you.

Cannes is done with huge cruise ships. The French city is joining the overtourism backlash
PARIS (AP) — The French Riviera resort of Cannes is imposing what its city council calls 'drastic regulation' on cruise ships, banning any vessels carrying more than 1,000 people from its harbor starting next year. The home of the world's premier film festival is joining a growing global backlash against overtourism, which recently saw uproar over Jeff Bezos' and Lauren Sanchez' Venice wedding this weekend, water-gun protests in Spain and a surprise strike at the Louvre Museum. 'Less numerous, less big, less polluting and more esthetic' — that's the aim of Cannes city councilors who voted Friday to introduce new limits on cruise ships in its ports starting Jan. 1. Only ships with fewer than 1,000 passengers will be allowed in the port, with a maximum of 6,000 passengers disembarking per day. Larger ships will be expected to transfer passengers to smaller boats to enter Cannes. France — which drew in some 100 million visitors last year, more than any other European country and more than the country's population — is on the front line of efforts to balance economic benefits of tourism with environmental concerns while managing ever-growing crowds. 'Cannes has become a major cruise ship destination, with real economic benefits. It's not about banning cruise ships, but about regulating, organizing, setting guidelines for their navigation,' Mayor David Lisnard said in a statement. Cruise operators have called such restrictions damaging for destinations and for passengers. Two cruise ships were scheduled to dock in Cannes on Sunday, each bigger than the upcoming 1,000-passenger limit and with a combined capacity of more than 7,000 people. Their owners did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the new restrictions. The nearby Mediterranean city of Nice announced limits on cruise ships earlier this year, as have some other European cities.

In 1971, Ms. magazine was co-founded by Gloria Steinem and was first published as an insert in New York magazine. By January 1972, the first stand-alone issue was released on a monthly basis. The three-part series 'Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print' looks at the magazine's founding and its history as a publication that focuses on women-centered issues, including abortion, work balance and sexual politics in a primarily male-dominated space. The documentary also features interviews with Steinem, her co-founders Letty Cottin Pogrebin and Pat Carbine, and the first editor of the magazine, Suzanne Braun Levine. Following Menswear Milan Fashion Week, it's now time to dash to Paris for Menswear Paris Fashion Week. Running June 24-29, The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode have bestowed upon us a packed schedule of back-to-back shows and presentations. The 6-day Menswear Paris Fashion Week Fall 2025 schedule promises to be one for the books – for a whole multitude of reasons. This season, it will Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent who will ultimately kick-start PFW into high gear on Tuesday June 24, as dusk falls over the French capital. Soon after, Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton is scheduled to present his ninth collection for the famed French fashion house. On the calendar for Tuesday is Acne Studios, Lemaire, Isabel Marant, Wales Boner, and Ami (to name a select few). Sacai, Issey Miyake, Dries Van Noten, Yohji Yamamoto, and Rick Owens will present Wednesday June 26.
