MCMC seizes TikTok user's phone over false, offensive content
MCMC, in a statement, said the content was believed to have been uploaded in response to issues related to immoral party in the country as well as the Prime Minister's official statement on incentives for the people.
'In another post, the individual is also suspected of making false and highly offensive allegations regarding the Prime Minister's official visit abroad,' it added.
MCMC said the individual's statement was recorded yesterday at its headquarters in Cyberjaya to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
The commission reiterated that it will not compromise on any misuse of social media platforms to spread offensive content or unfounded allegations and will continue to take firm action to safeguard public order and national harmony. — BERNAMA

ACCCIM welcomes new measures to ease cost of living
PETALING JAYA: The slew of measures announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will help to ease the cost of living and spur household consumption expenditure, says the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). "ACCCIM welcomes the Prime Minister's announcement of measures to show its appreciation to rakyat, including one-off cash aid of RM100 for all Malaysians aged 18 and above under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid initiative, Rahmah madani sales and the freezing of toll hikes. "Malaysians will enjoy a lower RON95 petrol price of RM1.99 per litre once the targeted subsidies come into effect in September," it said in a statement on Wednesday (July 23). ACCCIM also said it was looking forward to the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) on July 31 as well as Budget 2026 later, adding that the government's five-year blueprint and spending plan would ensure the continuity of national development, prioritise sustainable economic resilience and high-quality investment. I did not search nearby garden where his body was found, says Zayn Rayyan's mother
PETALING JAYA: The mother of the Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin admitted in the Sessions Court here today that she did not search the garden area near her apartment in Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai, when her son with autism, went missing on Dec 5, 2023. Instead, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, said she searched around the apartment complex and nearby premises. "I searched every floor in Block R, then continued to Block S and Block A. All the apartment blocks have four levels. I searched alone at first while staying in contact with my husband (Zaim Ikhwan Zahari), who was then on his way home from work. "He told me he was almost at Idaman Apartment and asked me to wait in front of Block E. When he arrived, we continued the search together,' she said during cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin on the third day of her defence trial. Ismanira said she and her husband also looked for Zayn Rayyan at several places within a 500-metre radius from their home, including a petrol station, fast food outlets, her workplace, his school, Indah Apartment, Harmoni Apartment and Prima Damansara. Ismanira agreed with the prosecution's suggestion that all the locations she searched were farther away than the garden next to Block R. The first defence witness, however, disagreed with the prosecution's suggestion that she had encountered several people while searching the apartment blocks. "Perhaps a few, but not many. It was during working hours, so the area was quiet except for the shop section. I only met people when I stopped at Block A, where there were stalls. My husband and I left our contact numbers at each shop we visited,' she said. When questioned by defence counsel Haresh Mahadevan about her decision to search areas 500 metres away instead of the nearby garden, Ismanira said, "I know my son. He is on the autism spectrum, and he only goes to places he is familiar with. "I never brought Zayn to the garden or to the location where his body was found. Unless something unusual had happened or someone took him there, he wouldn't have gone there on his own,' she said. On Monday, Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case and ordered Ismanira to enter her defence. Her husband, Zaim Ikhwan, 30, was discharged and acquitted of the same charge. The couple had been accused of neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause him physical harm between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023, in the vicinity of Block R of Idaman Apartment and the nearby river. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both. The trial continues this afternoon. - Bernama

Datuk businesswoman claims trial for making false statement
KUANTAN: A 46-year-old businesswoman with a Datuk title pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to making false statements regarding the resignation of three company directors about two years ago. Azjuriyahti Azlan claimed trial after the charge was read before Judge Noor Aisah Mohamed. She was accused of allowing a company secretary to submit a false statement concerning the resignation of three directors in a 'Section 58 Notification of Change in the Register of Directors, Managers and Secretaries' document. The offence allegedly occurred at a premises along Jalan Gambut on June 20, 2023. Azjuriyahti was charged under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016, which provides for a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM3 million, or both, upon conviction. Companies Commission of Malaysia deputy public prosecutor Abdul Hadi Abdul Muti appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Muhammad Nazrin Mohd Seth represented the accused. Hadi proposed bail be set at RM30,000 with one surety, but Nazrin argued that the amount was excessive. Noor Aisah then set bail at RM8,000 and fixed August 28 for mention. Last month, the same court issued an arrest warrant for Azjuriyahti after she failed to appear for a hearing. Meanwhile, Noor Aisah also issued an arrest warrant today for Datuk Seri Mohd Nazrul Izad Mohd Arsad, 46, after he failed to attend court proceedings to face a charge under Section 591(2)(a) of the Companies Act 2016 for allegedly making a false statement. He was scheduled to jointly face the charge with Azjuriyahti. Abdul Hadi applied for the arrest warrant after Nazrul Izad failed to appear in court, citing health reasons. He also requested Aug 28 to be fixed for mention. Noor Aisah granted the application, issuing the warrant and instructing the accused to submit a medical certificate from a government hospital to explain his absence on Aug 28.
