Four bills to be tabled at State Assembly sitting

Hajiji chairing the Chief Minister's Department post-cabinet meeting at Menara Kinabalu on Wednesday. KOTA KINABALU (July 2): Four bills will be tabled during the two-day State Assembly sitting, beginning next Monday. The Chief Minister's Department will table two bills: the Forestry (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Climate and Carbon Governance Bill 2025. The other two will be tabled by the Finance Ministry — the State Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Supplementary Supply Bill 2025. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor disclosed this at the Chief Minister's Department post-cabinet meeting at Menara Kinabalu on Wednesday. The State Assembly sitting is expected to be the last before the assembly is dissolved to make way for the next state election. The current term expires in October. Meanwhile, Hajiji hoped public service personnel will continue to uphold the principles of professionalism, neutrality and integrity in carrying out their duties during this election year. 'We are facing the state elections this year. As the backbone of the State Government administration, civil servants must ensure that all administrative affairs and service delivery to the people are not disrupted and continue to run smoothly as usual. 'The efficiency and transparency of civil servants in facing this challenging period will reflect our commitment to continue supporting the democratic system and stability of the state administration,' he said at the meeting. Hajiji also urged all department heads to demonstrate strong commitment in carrying out their responsibilities. He said they must carry out their duties with greater efficiency and accuracy, as well as monitor projects more effectively to ensure all approved projects are completed within schedule. 'This is crucial to avoid having to deal with delays in execution, wastage of resources and jeopardising reputation and public trust in the capabilities of the government's administrative machinery,' he said. The Chief Minister also reminded all public service personnel to always be responsive, proactive and to practise good governance in carrying out their duties in order to provide the best services to the people. 'Civil servants must carry out their responsibilities with trust, transparency and a strong sense of accountability. They must avoid conflicts of interest so that the state government's goals and objectives can be successfully achieved. 'The interest of the government is always more important than personal interest,' he said. Hajiji also reminded civil servants to always uphold personal integrity and make it a core value in their character. 'Without high personal integrity, the consequences to the image of the public service and the entire state government institution would be severe,' he said.

Malaysia and Indonesia to resume annual consultation in Jakarta

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Indonesia will restart their annual consultation, last held in 2017, following discussions between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The meeting is scheduled for July 29 in Jakarta, alongside ASEAN-related events. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the decision, highlighting the positive atmosphere during Anwar's recent visit to Indonesia. The consultation will serve as a platform for both leaders to address bilateral issues, including the long-standing Ambalat maritime boundary dispute. Fahmi noted that the Ambalat issue, unresolved for decades, remains a priority but stressed that discussions would mark the beginning of a resolution process rather than an immediate conclusion. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan previously emphasised Malaysia's commitment to a win-win solution. The leaders also reaffirmed plans to enhance strategic cooperation in trade, security, and joint maritime development. The upcoming talks aim to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster regional stability.

KLIA's aerotrain in full flight now

After two years, travellers laud smoother and faster way of getting around SEPANG: After a more than two-year wait, travellers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport can breathe a sigh of relief as the aerotrain service resumed yesterday. Capable of ferrying a total of 270 passengers in one ride, the aerotrain shortens travel time between the main terminal and satellite building to about three minutes. Fishmonger Chia Kim Yee, 26, said the aerotrain was much more comfortable compared to using the shuttle bus service. 'The bus service was quite complicated. Other countries also have systems similar to the aerotrain. 'Now that it is back in service, it is much easier to move around the airport,' said Chia, who just arrived from Taiwan. Project engineer Ng Yong Loon, 25, also lauded the return of the aerotrain service. 'Taking the bus wasn't the best experience, and it could get rather hot. It is my first time taking the aerotrain and we hope this service can continue, as it makes it extremely convenient,' said Ng, who had travelled back from Vietnam. Oil and gas surveyor Amirudin Bahari, 40, said using the train was much more efficient. 'Now, we don't have to walk that much. It is only a three-minute ride and as a frequent traveller, it makes the journey more comfortable. 'Hopefully, the train can continue serving its purpose well, with no breakdowns,' he added. An Indian national, who wanted to be known only as Priya, said the aerotrain's return added a sense of efficiency to her travel. 'We are always pressed for time and the aerotrain makes a big difference. It is also much more organised,' said the business traveller. Private sector worker Nazihah Abdullah, 35, said she was excited to see the aerotrain back in service after such a long hiatus. 'We were quite eager to ride it. The train is much better compared to the bus, where there is a longer waiting time. 'The current train also seems more spacious and has a display, compared to the previous aerotrain operations,' said Nazihah. The aerotrain, which came under public scrutiny for its frequent breakdowns, had its service suspended in March 2023. During the aerotrain's hiatus, shuttle bus services were deployed as a stop-gap measure. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was also among those who rode the train yesterday, during a walkabout at KLIA Terminal 1. 'Good and very fast, maybe faster than before,' he said briefly when met while making his way to the Bunga Raya complex. Anwar arrived at about 1pm with an entourage including Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Anwar is set to make his inaugural official visit to Italy as Prime Minister. Rome is the first stop of the Prime Minister's week of working visits, which also includes Paris and Rio de Janeiro.

PM Anwar To Lead Malaysian Trade Mission To Three Major Economic Hubs From July 1-7

GENERAL PUTRAJAYA, June 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to undertake an official visit to three countries, namely Italy, France, and Brazil, from tomorrow until July 7, which will include his participation at the 17th BRICS Summit. Senior press secretary to the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said the visits to these major economic hubs - Rome, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro - aim to strengthen Malaysia's diplomatic ties and trade relations with the respective nations. He said these three markets collectively recorded bilateral trade valued at RM50.91 billion (USD11.14 billion) last year. 'The visits present opportunities for rapid growth in sectors such as the economy, culture, technology, and education,' he said during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Daily Briefing today. In Italy, according to Tunku Nashrul, the Prime Minister is slated to hold a bilateral meeting with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni to advance economic cooperation and pioneer joint cultural initiatives. A Business Roundtable will convene industry leaders from both countries, while dialogues with local Muslim community leaders and meetings with the Malaysian diaspora will highlight people-to-people connections and showcase Malaysian talent in Europe. In France, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with President Emmanuel Macron, with discussions focusing on trade, technology, and education. 'In addition to the roundtable with France's industrial giants, the Prime Minister will engage with local Muslim leaders, meet Malaysian citizens in France, and deliver a public lecture at Sorbonne University on July 4,' said Tunku Nashrul. He said from July 5 to 7, the Prime Minister will be in Rio de Janeiro to attend the 17th BRICS Summit upon invitation from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

PM Anwar To Use Chartered Flight For Three-nation Visit, Reducing Time And Costs

PUTRAJAYA, June 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will embark tomorrow on official visits to three major global economic hubs – Rome, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro – travelling via a chartered flight from Malaysia Airlines until July 7. According to the Prime Minister's senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Tunku Abaidah, the use of a chartered flight was decided after careful consideration of time efficiency, cost savings, and delegation coordination, especially given the Prime Minister's tight schedule with minimal transit time between destinations. 'This decision allows the Prime Minister's highly-packed itinerary to proceed smoothly without the need for long transits. 'The cost of chartering the aircraft is also more economical compared to deploying a full government aircraft operation. 'Additionally, coordinating the travel of both government and business delegations together ensures timely attendance at all meetings and engagements,' he said during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Daily Briefing today. Tunku Nashrul clarified that the Malaysian government will fully cover travel costs for official delegates, while business delegates will bear their own expenses. 'All business delegates will remain present at each of the three destinations. The Prime Minister extended the invitation to them to join the broader Malaysian mission to help lower costs for all parties and ensure smoother coordination throughout the visits. 'I would like to stress once again that there is no conflict of interest between the government and the business delegation,' he emphasised. Among the corporate representatives joining the mission are Petronas, Khazanah, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Maybank, FGV, YTL Power, and Sunway.
