Prabhas promises financial aid to Fish Venkat
According to the report, Fish Venkat's daughter said, 'Daddy is very unwell and in a serious condition. He's in the ICU and requires a kidney transplant, which will cost us at least Rs 50 lakh. Prabhas' assistant reached out to us and assured us of financial support. They asked us to keep them informed when the transplant takes place so they can cover the cost.'
As the family is in dire need of financial assistance, his daughter has seemingly appealed to other Telugu cinema actors who have worked with her father.
She added, 'Be it Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, or Jr NTR, I hope they help us find a donor for my father. He has worked in such good films with all of them. No one seems to care about him now. I request everyone to please help my father.'
For those unaware, Fish Venkat (aka Venkat Raj) is a Telugu actor known for his comedic and villainous roles. Over the years, the actor has made several appearances alongside stars in films like Khaidi No. 150, Shivam, Adhurs, Gabbar Singh, and more. He was last seen in the movie Coffee with a Killer.

Ishaan Khatter recalls pulling Amitabh Bachchan's beard on the set of Sooryavansham: ‘I was calling Bade Miyan'

On a lazy afternoon, if you flip through TV channels and land on Set Max, chances are you'll find Amitabh Bachchan's Sooryavansham playing. Though the film didn't do well in theatres when it was released in 1999, it has gained a cult following over the years. Those who grew up in the early 2000s watched Big B in a double role in the movie, but for actor Ishaan Khatter, the experience was more personal. He actually visited the sets of the film as a child, thanks to his mother, Neelima Azeem, who was part of the film's cast. Neelima Azeem played Mrs Varun Singh in the movie, while Ishaan's father, Rajesh Khattar, played her on-screen husband. In a recent chat with Mid-Day, Ishaan shared a sweet story from his childhood. 'I think my mom once did a children's show called Nayantara, and I appeared on it too. It was a talk show where she spoke about parenting and motherhood. I've always been fascinated by film sets. She once took me to the sets of Sooryavansham, and apparently, I kept saying 'Bade Miyan, Bade Miyan' to Amitabh Bachchan, because I had seen Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,' he laughed. But what happened next made the memory unforgettable. Ishaan said, 'He (Amitabh Bachchan) picked me up! And my mom later told me, 'You were the only kid he lifted, and you pulled his beard!' And he just smiled and said, 'It's okay.' These are the stories I've grown up hearing from my mom.' 'At the time, she was trying to get me admitted into a school and Jamnabai was then one of the nicest schools. She was having trouble getting admission for me there and he very kindly, personally went and spoke to the authorities,' he said.

Jurassic World Franchise India Opening Day Comparison: Where does Rebirth land?

Dinosaur movies have found a lot of love in India. The first Jurassic Park film back in 1994, took the global box office by storm and India was no exception. The Steven Spielberg directorial became the first Hollywood movie to hit the Rs 10 crore net mark. Since then, the films of the franchise have been doing exceptionally well in India, though not at a historic level like the first part. Jurassic World: Rebirth Has Opened With Rs 9.15 Crore At The India Box Office, Without Premieres The new film from the Jurassic franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth, took a strong opening of Rs 9.15 crore net, despite the showcasing issues that it faced. If not for the showcasing issues, the movie would have certainly opened in the double digits. Let's analyse how the last 3 Jurassic movies before Rebirth, performed at the box office in India, on their opening day. Jurassic World (2015) Opened To Rs 10.50 Crore Net In India Including Previews Jurassic World in 2015 caused global meyhem, grossing in the north of USD 1.7 billion worldwide. The movie was a superhit in India, netting close to Rs 90 crore. It premiered with Rs 4.25 crore net on preview Thursday, which when adjusted for inflation, is comfortably above Rs 10 crore net. It blasted with Rs 6.25 crore net on opening Friday and went on to net Rs 30 crore over the weekend. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) Opened To Rs 12.80 Crore Net In India Including Previews Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom took a good opening too, netting Rs 5.80 crore on preview Thursday, followed by Rs 7 crore on opening Friday, for a day 1 of Rs 12.80 crore net. The movie netted a little over Rs 70 crore in India, in its full run. Certainly a let down from Jurassic World, but still solid. Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) Collected Rs 11.50 Crore Net In India Including Previews Jurassic World: Dominion collected Rs 3.50 crore net on preview Thursday, and then a franchise record Rs 8 crore Friday, for a Rs 11.50 crore net opening. The film's reviews affected it adversely, and it ended with a little over Rs 60 crore net. The falling trajectory of Jurassic World films was not just at the India box office, as the movies went from USD 1.7 billion in 2015 to USD 1 billion in 2022. The Day 1 India Net Box Office Collection Of Recent Jurassic Movies Is As Under How Has Jurassic World: Rebirth Opened Vis-à-Vis Other Jurassic Movies? Jurassic World: Rebirth has taken a franchise record Rs 9.15 crore net Friday start, but it doesn't mean much in the larger scheme of things, as the adjusted collections of the previous parts are higher. A part of the reason is definitely the screen-sharing issues with new and holdover releases. But, the elephant in the room is that the interest in the franchise is declining. No doubt that the opening Jurassic World: Rebirth managed in these conditions is good. But, it's not as great as it could have been. The word of mouth seems better than Dominion, so one would hope that it eclipses the lifetime collections of that film in India, atleast. Jurassic World: Rebirth In Theatres

GURU DUTT @ 100: Granddaughters recall their grandfather's legacy

THE presence of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt is apparent at the Mumbai home where his daughter-in-law Iffat, the wife of his son, late Arun Dutt, and his granddaughters, Karuna and Gouri, reside. The poster of Pyaasa (1957) hangs in the living room while another wall is adorned with black-and-white family photos featuring Dutt, his singer-wife Geeta Dutt and their children. These images are not mere reminders of the cinematic legacy that the sisters have inherited, they are a celebration of the brilliance of their grandfather and the life he led. 'Though our grandfather, Guru Dutt, has always been a big presence in our lives, this year we are experiencing it more since his birth centenary is coming up on July 9,' says Gouri. While growing up in Pune, they realised the significance of his legacy during their college days; Karuna studied at Fergusson College and Gouri at Nowrosjee Wadia College. 'When we were kids, we were introduced to our grandfather's work by our father. In Pune, we used to have frequent power cuts in the evenings and Dad used to talk about his parents as we waited for the electricity to be restored,' recalls Gouri. Iffat points out that Karuna is more social like her grandmother Geeta Dutt while Gouri is introverted like her father and grandfather. Getting reintroduced to his movies as teenagers had its advantages. 'We were able to look at his work objectively and understand his craft. The film that hit me the most was Pyaasa. But it is Mr & Mrs 55 (1955) that I believe has not got its due appreciation. Even today, it is relevant and entertaining,' says Karuna, while Gouri cites Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959) as her favourite. The family moved to Mumbai a few years ago when the sisters started working as film professionals. See here For the birth centenary, the family has not made any special plans yet. 'We celebrate such family occasions privately. However, we follow the tradition of cooking and feeding the favourite dishes of the deceased family member to birds. This tradition was started by Arun. So, on July 9 we will make simple Mangalorean dishes that Papa loved such as dal chawal and aloo saung (a spicy dish of potatoes and onions),' says Iffat. When they were younger, people assumed that Karuna and Gouri would join the film industry. 'When someone mentioned that, I found it annoying. However, when I was around 18, I wanted to become a film professional. My father, however, was not keen. That was strange because while growing up we were encouraged to explore theatre, singing and dance,' recalls Karuna. She struck a deal with her father that she can pursue a career in films if she is interested in it even after her graduation. When Karuna stuck to her decision, Arun started teaching her filmmaking. Incidentally, from 2010 to 2013, Arun ran Guru Dutt Films Acting Academy in Pune. But he had to close it later due to ill health. He also produced and directed the last film under Guru Dutt Films Private Limited, titled Khule-Aam (1992). ALSO READ | Filmistan Studios, founded by Kajol and Rani Mukerji's grandfather, sold for Rs 183 crore to real estate company Karuna entered the film industry as assistant director no 13 on the sets of That Girl in Yellow Boots (2010) and went on to be associated with several projects such as Ugly (2013), Masaan (2015), Trapped (2016) and Jubilee (2013). Gouri became a volunteer at Prithvi Theatre in 2010. 'I worked on the theatre productions of Manav Kaul and Rangbaaz group. I adapted Albert Camus's novella The Outsider as a play. The first film I worked on was Nitin Kakkar's Ram Singh Charlie (2020),' says Gauri, who was part of Victoria & Abdul (2017), Girls will be Girls (2024) and Tanaav (2024). She was first AD on the last two projects. The Dutt sisters aspire to make their own movies eventually. 'We already have started the process of writing and pitching,' says Karuna. They are clear that their stories and choices will be guided by their interests and the life they have experienced. The influence of Guru Dutt, they expect, will nudge them to achieve perfection in their craft and storytelling.
