Bruce Springsteen's New Collaborative Project Will Be Released This Month

Forbes01-04-2025
Bruce Springsteen is getting involved in Record Store Day 2025, and he's not doing so alone. This time, the legendary rocker is teaming up with The Killers for a brand new — and very limited — EP, one that captures a one-of-a-kind moment that many longtime lovers of both bands already know well, even if they weren't there to experience it in person.
Encore at the Garden will be released as a 12-inch vinyl, and it's being billed as a Record Store Day exclusive. Only 5,000 copies are being pressed of the EP, so fans will need to move fast to get their hands on a copy of the title.
The short, three-song project is centered around Springsteen's surprise appearance during The Killers' show at Madison Square Garden back on October 1, 2022. Those who were in the audience that night surely remember the amazing performance, and thankfully for those who were not at the New York City concert, it's been preserved, and will now be available as an album for the very first time.
Side A of the vinyl is set to feature two cuts: 'Badlands,' a staple of Springsteen's catalog that continues to get crowds on their feet decades after its release, and 'Dustland,' a special reworking of The Killers' own 'A Dustland Fairytale' that originally featured Springsteen on the studio version.
Side B includes just one track, but it's a special one. 'Born to Run,' perhaps Sprinsteen's most familiar tune, closes the effort.
The joint performance itself was a highlight of The Killers' Imploding the Mirage Tour. Springsteen wasn't just the only guest star, as he brought longtime E Street Band collaborator Jake Clemons with him.
Record Store Day is a music industry initiative meant to bring people back into independent shops, as well as to celebrate music in its physical form, and this release fits the mission perfectly. Many well-known artists take part, dropping special projects – such as this EP – or offering collectible versions of popular projects on vinyl. The idea is that these projects are only available in brick-and-mortar locations throughout the world, so fans can't jut head to an artist's website or Amazon to buy what they want, they need to go out and support their local record store.
Record Store Day 2025 is set to take place on April 12, 2025.

Patti Scialfa makes rare appearance at Linda Ronstadt tribute in Nashville

Bruce Springsteen's sweetheart and storied musician, Patti Scialfa, made a rare appearance this week. Scialfa, 71, was part of a star-studded tribute to Linda Ronstadt at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Alongside Trisha Yearwood and other singer-songwriter legends, Scialfa took the stage on July 22 for a spate of heartfelt performances. Springsteen's longtime wife and collaborator, and a member of the E Street Band, Scialfa sang "To Know Him Is to Love Him" and "Birds" with Yearwood and Emmylou Harris. Her set also included a duet of "Valerie" with Harris and "The Water Is Wide" with Yearwood, Harris, Rodney Crowell and James Taylor. The event was co-produced by Yearwood and the Country Music Hall of Fame, and was put on in connection with the museum's newest exhibition, "Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock." "I'm not exaggerating when I say that Linda Ronstadt is the reason I became a singer," Yearwood said, according to the Country Music Hall of Fame. "Celebrating Linda and her fellow LA-based musicians alongside some of my biggest musical heroes is a lifelong dream come true for me." Scialfa, a New Jersey native, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer, in September, and her appearances and performances since have been sporadic. 'This affects my immune system, so I just have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go," said Scialfa in the 2024 documentary "Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band." "Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs onstage, and that's been a treat," she added. "That's the new normal for me right now, and I'm OK with that." Sciafa's last live performance was in April, when she took the stage to celebrate at the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music's American Music Honors. Smokey Robinson, John Fogerty, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello and Joe Ely, in absentia, were bestowed honors by Scialfa, Springsteen, Little Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren. For fans eager to hear from the red-headed songstress, The Yearwood and Friends Ronstadt salute was filmed and will be available next month on the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's website and YouTube channel.

Bruce Springsteen Joins Zach Bryan for Surprise Appearance at New Jersey Concert

Zach Bryan has been called 'Bruce Springsteen's heir' — and on Sunday, the latter surprised fans at Bryan's concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Springsteen took the MetLife Stadium stage in his home state to perform his own 'Atlantic City' with Bryan. At the end of the song, the audience could be heard yelling 'BRUUUUUCE' (not booing, as some on social media misheard). Just last August, Springsteen surprised fans at Bryan's Philadelphia concert for a rendition of 'Atlantic City' and 'Sandpaper,' on which the two collaborated. On Sunday, concertgoers got a tease of Springsteen's appearance early in the evening, when 'House of a Thousand Guitars,' from his 2020 album, Letter to You, was heard across the sound system. Later in the set, Bryan brought out Caleb Followill, a member of opening band Kings of Leon, to the stage, introducing him as the 'sweetest man I've ever met.' He then took a beat to bring on 'one of the greatest men to ever exist, a New Jersey native, Mr. Bruce Springsteen.' The band then launched into 'Atlantic City' off Springsteen's 1982 solo album, Nebraska, which Followill also joined in on. That era of Springsteen's music career will hit the big screen in October with the release of the film Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen. Springsteen came out again for the show's encore, Bryan's 'Revival.' Sunday's concert was the last of Bryan's three-night engagement in East Rutherford. The shows also marked Kings of Leon's first live performances since canceling a portion of their European dates due to a heel injury sustained by Followill earlier this summer. Their setlist included past hits as well as new music from their latest release, Can We Please Have Fun. Bryan, whose songwriting is often compared to Springsteen's, is a U.S. Navy veteran from Oklahoma who has helped usher in a new era of country music. His career took off in 2023 with his fourth album, Zach Bryan. He released another hit album, The Great American Bar Scene, in 2024. Springsteen recently wrapped a European tour and has been seen in and around his hometown of Freehold, New Jersey. Bryan also spent much of June in Europe, headlining two nights at London's Hyde Park. Watch the Sunday night performance below.
