Sophie Ellis-Bextor to 'flip the script' with music
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the 46-year-old Groovejet singer said she used to feel that she might not be able to continue in the pop music genre as she got older.
Asked about where the idea for the title of her upcoming album Perimenopop, a play on the words perimenopause and pop, came from, she said: "I can't think.
"It might be to do with the fact I'm in my mid-40s, but my girlfriends and I, we felt like all the algorithms have shifted towards what this chapter of our lives would bring and I find myself feeling really good in myself actually.
"I'm enjoying life, I'm surrounded by lovely people.
"I love what I do and I poured a lot of that joy and celebration of years of experience of what I do, I'm so proud of it actually, so I was like, flip the script, Perimenopop here we come."
She continued: "When I was younger, I felt like pop maybe would be something I'd do when I was younger, because it wouldn't be something I could expect to still do when I got older.
"I actually think a lot of my kids' generation don't care what age you are, they just want to have good music, but also, there's so much fun to be found in this chapter of my life and I love the fact that the years have piled up.
"I'm actually super into it. I like it."
The Murder On The Dancefloor singer currently presents a weekly show on BBC Radio 2, began her career in 1996 and has gone on to have six UK top 10 singles and five UK top 10 albums.
Perimenopop is due to be released on Friday September 12.

In May, The Sun exclusively revealed how 4 Coleen Nolan has revealed how she really feels about the major changes coming to Loose Women Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 4 Coleen has been on the show since 2000 Credit: ITV 4 ITV bosses have axed Loose Women and Lorraine episodes for 22 weeks of the year Credit: Rex The plans also included cutting Lorraine episodes by 30 minutes and extending Good Morning Britain. This Morning and Loose Women were unaffected by scheduling changes and will remain in their regular slots of 10.30am to 12.30pm and 12.30pm to 1.30pm, respectively. However, Loose Women will broadcast fewer episodes - airing "on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year" according to the network. Now Coleen - who has been a Loose Women panellist since 2000 - has spoken out about the 'devastating' impact the changes will have. Read More on Loose Women She told "It's going to be very different in the respect of the size of the crew, but it's still running. "Which it should be – there isn't another show that celebrates and supports all women of every size, age, whatever. Oasis fans warned to 'be very careful' ahead of first show in 16 years
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Oasis fans have been warned to "be very careful" ahead of the band's much-anticipated reunion tour starting on Friday (July 4). Thousands of music lovers have started arriving in Cardiff as brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher reunite on stage for the first time in 16 years. The band's eagerly awaited world tour, spanning 41 dates, is set to launch with shows at the Principality Stadium this weekend. They will then head to Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin as part of the UK and Ireland leg, before jetting off to Canada, Los Angeles, Mexico and Japan. Liam and Noel's last performance together was in 2009, with their latest tour selling out within hours of its announcement last year, as fans are eager to catch a glimpse of the reunion, reports Wales Online. (Image: Simon Emmett) Ahead of the reunion tour starting tonight, ITV Lorraine star Claer Barrett issued a warning to viewers about an uptick in ticket frauds. "There are last-minute ticket deals that are not deals, they're just scams," said host Ranvir Singh during Friday's programme. Claer responded: "The message to get across is that social media and ticket sales are not a good look. "There's lots of scams going on, the banks are all warning people to be wary of bot accounts on social media that don't have many followers but are following lots of people and offering tickets." Her advice was clear: "The key message here is stick to the official ticket resale site. Be very careful." Good Morning Britain's Nick Dixon was also on the scene at the Principality Stadium, giving the lowdown on the eager fans. (Image: ITV) "Some of the more passionate fans with tickets have been queuing up at different sections of the stadium since yesterday," he disclosed. "Of course, they want to get in there as soon as the doors open at five o'clock and rush right to the stage." Oasis will be joined by indie rockers Cast and The Verve's Richard Ashcroft for their gigs in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin. The tour is sold out, but the band has said that some additional tickets could be released. In an Instagram post last week (June 25), the band advised members of Oasismynet to "keep an eye" on their inbox. The final releases would come "over the coming days" once production was "fine tuned", they said. Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 at 9am
