Negeri Sembilan To Provide Affordable Homes For Asnaf Families
SEREMBAN, June 23 (Bernama) – The Negeri Sembilan government, through the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS), will soon begin acquiring affordable homes under the Rumah Mawaddah programme to assist eligible asnaf families in financial hardship, particularly those without land ownership.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the initial phase will involve the purchase of 13 Type A affordable housing units, each priced at RM110,000.
He noted that while MAINS previously constructed three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses on land owned by asnaf at RM100,000 per unit, the new initiative targets those without land by providing completed homes directly.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Zakat and Construction Synergy Seminar here today, Aminuddin said MAINS built 12 Rumah Mawaddah units last year for RM1.2 million, with another four units (RM400,000) currently under development and expected to be completed by June.
He added that the state government remains committed to promoting balanced material and spiritual development, aligned with the Malaysia MADANI framework, which emphasises social responsibility, inclusiveness and shared prosperity.
'Business zakat contributed by Muslim contractors not only increases overall zakat collections but also lays the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive development ecosystem, ultimately benefiting the poor and underprivileged,' he said.
MAINS Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh Ab Kadir, who was also present, announced the launch of the EZp Zakat Business Assessment Declaration, an online platform designed to streamline submission, verification and transparency for corporate zakat assessments.
'This declaration will serve as the official document for business zakat contributions based on accurate calculations. I believe this initiative will drive greater awareness and compliance among Muslim-owned companies, further strengthening the ummah's economic ecosystem in line with Maqasid Shariah principles,' he said.

High MyKad usage for Sara programme in Sabah
BELURAN: Sabah has shown a high rate of MyKad usage for the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, with 94% of recipients making purchases on registered premises. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said there are 506,000 Sara recipients with RM500mil approved annually. 'Currently, there are almost 4,000 registered grocery shops and supermarkets in the country compared to 700 in 2024. 'In Sabah alone, there are over 430 registered premises, and this number will increase to ensure better access in all areas,' she stated in a press release yesterday. She also said that the government is enhancing the range of basic necessities permitted in the programme by expanding the current 14 categories to include household items such as soap, detergent, and floor cleaners, effective May 1. On her working visit to Beluran with Finance Ministry officers, Lim said it was part of their commitment. 'The main focus of the visit is to check out the implementation of the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) in addition to Sara and to directly interact with recipients, as the programme allows the government the opportunity to assess the effectiveness of the aid and to obtain feedback from recipients, especially from the interior of Sabah. 'In Malaysia, there are 566,000 STR recipients without bank accounts; in Sabah, 62,000 out of 830,000 STR recipients do not have bank accounts. 'Today (Monday), almost 400 recipients in Beluran without bank accounts showed up for the STR cash payment programme,' she added, Bernama reported. Lim also shared that RM410mil has been channelled for Phase One and Two of STR payments in Sabah, with two more STR payments to be made in August and November. 'As such, a mobile Bank Simpanan Nasional branch has been initiated to offer banking services, including deposits, withdrawals and financial advice, to rural residents in Beluran at their doorstep.'

More than just guards
Mohamad Shafiq Muraly (second from right) at the Pensec AGM. THE Penang Security Practitioners Organisation (Pensec) is working to remove the stigma tied to the security profession. Indeed, long hours, low pay and little respect are what most people might think of when they see security guards. But, the job that was once seen as the last stop for retirees or the unqualified is no longer just that. Security roles today are becoming critical parts of operations in high-value logistics, construction, oil and gas, and manufacturing. As such, the Penang-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), formed in 2001 for local security guards, is trying to change public perceptions of these personnel. 'There are degree holders in this job now. Some have engineering or IT qualifications. 'They're not here because they failed. They chose this,' said Pensec chairman Mohamad Shafiq Muraly Abdullah. He said a trained graduate security personnel would take home about RM4,000 a month. This amount excludes overtime pay, phone allowance and other benefits. 'This is not about manning a boom gate anymore. 'It's about protecting data, securing supply chains and responding to crises,' Mohamad Shafiq said after Pensec's annual general meeting (AGM). Pensec together with the Penang Skills Development Centre have trained more than 2,500 personnel. Among the courses offered are Fundamentals in Security Practices and Mastering Effective Security Practices. These cover everything from cyber hygiene and password protocols to social engineering, incident response, and access control. 'Security is now part of a company's operational backbone,' he said. Mohamad Shafiq Muraly admitted that many Malaysians still treated security as a fallback job. 'But, we're making progress.' One of Pensec's newest courses is Industrial Investigation Techniques that teaches incident analysis and compliance, especially for high-risk sectors.' Pensec now has about 150 active members. The NGO hopes its outreach and programmes will pull in a new generation of security professionals.

Kim Loong anticipates higher FFB production
PETALING JAYA: Kim Loong Resources Bhd expects the fresh fruit bunch (FFB) production for financial year 2026 (FY26) to increase by 5% to 10%, supported by a better age profile of young palms in productive areas and its replanting programme. According to TA Research, the group plans to replant about 300ha to 500ha in FY26 and projects the average crude palm oil (CPO) price to hover at around RM4,000 per tonne for the year. 'We maintain a cautious view on CPO prices, weighed down by softer export demand from major importing countries and a projected increase in global vegetable oil supply,' the research house said. It maintained Kim Loong on 'hold' with an unchanged target price of RM2.31, based on 15 times 2026 earnings per share. TA Research said the group's 1Q26 results were in line with expectations. The group posted a 13.7% decline in core net profit to RM41.1mil for 1Q26 (excluding exceptional items), despite a 6% increase in revenue to RM411.7mil. The weaker earnings were mainly attributed to reduced processing margins from its milling operations. The plantation operations recorded a profit of RM47.3mil in 1Q26, a 35.4% increase from RM34.9mil a year ago, driven by a 15.1% increase in the average FFB selling price and a 3% rise in FFB production. During the quarter, average CPO selling price rose 11% to RM4,622 per tonne from RM4,180 per tonne a year ago, while the average FFB selling price increased 15% to RM906 per tonne from RM787 per tonne. The company said the plantation operations did not face problems in selling FFB produce as most of it was supplied to mills within the group. Meanwhile, the milling operations' profit fell 43.8% to RM21.8mil from RM38.7mil a year ago, mainly due to lower processing margins, dragged by a reduced oil extraction rate. The research house pointed out that although the average CPO selling price rose by 10.6% to RM4,622 per tonne, CPO production fell by 5.9% to 71,200 tonnes, while CPO sales dropped by 8.8% to 71,000 tonnes.
