SD Guthrie, MBINS to develop Port Dickson Free Zone

SEREMBAN: SD Guthrie Bhd (SD Guthrie) and Menteri Besar Incorporated Negeri Sembilan (MBINS) will develop the Port Dickson Free Zone (PDFZ) in Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson, covering an area of 242.8 hectares (600 acres) with a gross development value (GDV) projected to exceed RM1 billion. The area is located at Ladang Sengkang, Pasir Panjang, which is owned by SD Guthrie. Infrastructure construction work is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, subject to the establishment of a joint venture entity and finalisation of the master plan, expected in the first quarter of 2026. The Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, said the PDFZ will be built opposite the Midport Smart Artificial Intelligence (AI) Container Port site in Port Dickson and will serve as a key catalyst for the growth of Midport. He said the development of this industrial zone includes the construction of facilities such as warehousing areas, high-tech factories, and other supporting infrastructure, subject to approval from relevant authorities. "This initiative has the potential to boost further the state's industrial sector as well as strengthen the economic and investment ecosystem in the region. The integration between Midport and PDFZ will maximise synergy in logistics operations, light processing, and manufacturing sectors. "This will position Midport as the preferred port with a smooth supply chain system for related industries. The existence of PDFZ also plays a role in attracting strategic investments from major global industrial companies and optimising the use of container transportation and maritime services," he said during his speech at the signing ceremony of the land sale agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MBINS and SD Guthrie here today. Also present was SD Guthrie group managing director, Datuk Mohamad Helmy Othman Basha. Meanwhile, Aminuddin explained that the initial focus of the project is on transferring basic infrastructure land and promotion to investors, while in the long term, PDFZ will become a high-tech industrial hub supporting the growth of Midport. "According to the plan, the physical construction of Midport will commence soon and is expected to take several years before becoming fully operational. The target is for the port to operate as early as 2027, and the first phase of PDFZ will also be completed by then to support port operations," he said, adding that by 2035, Port Dickson has the potential to emerge as a 'New Port City', famous domestically and internationally. Aminuddin said the state government targets a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 8.1 per cent annually until 2045, and under the Malaysia Vision Valley 2.0 (MVV 2.0) framework, the Midport and PDFZ projects are among the strategic drivers towards achieving that target. Meanwhile, Mohamad Helmy said the PDFZ project is a strategic and visionary initiative aligned with the nation's development aspirations and sustainable progress agenda, and can strengthen Midport's function through the provision of industrial infrastructure. He said the collaboration with MBINS further strengthens SD Guthrie's presence in the industrial development landscape of Negeri Sembilan. "The approach of combining land commercialisation with strategic partnerships allows us to realise asset value immediately while creating new potential recurring income streams for the company. This is a model that can be expanded, and we intend to apply it in efforts to leverage our high-potential strategic land reserves across the country. We are also proud to contribute to this development effort, which is expected to provide various socio-economic benefits to the people," he said.

Negeri Sembilan To Provide Affordable Homes For Asnaf Families

SEREMBAN, June 23 (Bernama) – The Negeri Sembilan government, through the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS), will soon begin acquiring affordable homes under the Rumah Mawaddah programme to assist eligible asnaf families in financial hardship, particularly those without land ownership. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the initial phase will involve the purchase of 13 Type A affordable housing units, each priced at RM110,000. He noted that while MAINS previously constructed three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses on land owned by asnaf at RM100,000 per unit, the new initiative targets those without land by providing completed homes directly. Speaking to reporters after officiating the Zakat and Construction Synergy Seminar here today, Aminuddin said MAINS built 12 Rumah Mawaddah units last year for RM1.2 million, with another four units (RM400,000) currently under development and expected to be completed by June. He added that the state government remains committed to promoting balanced material and spiritual development, aligned with the Malaysia MADANI framework, which emphasises social responsibility, inclusiveness and shared prosperity. 'Business zakat contributed by Muslim contractors not only increases overall zakat collections but also lays the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive development ecosystem, ultimately benefiting the poor and underprivileged,' he said. MAINS Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh Ab Kadir, who was also present, announced the launch of the EZp Zakat Business Assessment Declaration, an online platform designed to streamline submission, verification and transparency for corporate zakat assessments. 'This declaration will serve as the official document for business zakat contributions based on accurate calculations. I believe this initiative will drive greater awareness and compliance among Muslim-owned companies, further strengthening the ummah's economic ecosystem in line with Maqasid Shariah principles,' he said. -- BERNAMA

Negeri Sembilan records 225 COVID-19 cases in ME 24

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan recorded 225 new COVID-19 cases in the 24th Epidemiological Week (ME 24) for the period of June 8 to 14, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. He said the figure showed an increase of 104.5 per cent compared to the previous week of 110 cases and Seremban recorded the highest number with 200 cases in ME 24. 'However, the situation is under control with no outbreaks reported. The increase is believed to be due to social movements and activities during the recent festive holiday season,' he told reporters after chairing an Exco meeting here today. Meanwhile, he said dengue cases in the state showed an increasing trend with 84 cases recorded in ME24 compared to 64 cases in the previous week while 21 outbreaks were reported involving 16 controlled, four uncontrolled and one hotspot. Aminuddin said the public was advised to remain vigilant and practise preventive measures and to seek early treatment if they experience symptoms of dengue. In another development, he said the state government had agreed to demolish and rebuild the Seri Pilah Kariah Mosque in Kuala Pilah at a cost of RM5 million as the mosque building was no longer safe to use. 'We want to develop a better mosque that will provide more comfort, especially to the children of the parish. The mosque, which will be moved to a new site at Lots 5616 and 5618 in Pilah Tengah, is expected to be completed within two to three years,' he said.

Nidzam joins Negri as new coach for next season

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan have officially named Nidzam Jamil as their new coach for the upcoming Super League season replacing K. Nanthakumar. The appointment was confirmed by the club's chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who described the move as part of the club's ongoing commitment to building a more progressive and sustainable football future. 'Nidzam is a highly respected figure in Malaysian football, both as a former national player and as a tactically astute coach,' said Aminuddin.
