The Washington Nationals have the No. 1 overall pick in 2025, giving them their choice at the top player in the class. Whether it's Ethan Holliday — the son of Matt Holliday and brother of Jackson Holliday — or one of multiple high-end college pitchers available such as Kade Anderson, Liam Doyle or Jamie Arnold, there isn't a consensus top player for the Nationals to select.
For the fifth consecutive year, the MLB draft will take place during All-Star weekend. The draft was typically held in mid-June before being moved for the 2021 MLB Draft.
Here's what to know of the 2025 MLB Draft, including where it's located:
Where is MLB draft located?
The 2025 MLB Draft will be held just outside of Atlanta, where the MLB All-Star Game is being held this season. The draft will take place live from Coca-Cola Roxy, a concert venue located in Cumberland, Georgia.
Starting in 2021, MLB moved the draft from mid-June to early-July to coincide with All-Star weekend. The 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be held in Philadelphia, which means the 2026 MLB Draft will also occur nearby.
How many rounds are in the MLB draft?
The MLB draft has 20 rounds, as the league shortened the draft in half starting in 2021.
The MLB draft has lessened the selections slowly over time: The 1996 MLB Draft featured 100 rounds, before shortening to 50 rounds from 1998-2011 and 40 rounds from 2012-19. The 2020 MLB Draft was only five rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before turning into its current state of 20 rounds.
The MLB draft is now a two-day event, with the first three rounds, including compensation picks and competitive balance rounds, taking place on the first night of the event. The remaining 17 rounds occur the next day.
When is the MLB draft?
The first three rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft start at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 13, from Coca-Cola Roxy Cumberland, Georgia. The next 17 rounds take place beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14.

Herrera, who missed time earlier this season with a knee issue, is hitting .320 with eight homers and 36 RBIs. He has played in 42 games this year. He was in the lineup Sunday as the designated hitter. Nootbaar left Saturday's game in the sixth inning and did not return. Nootbaar has battled rib pain and an intercostal strain for several weeks. He is batting .227 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs. ___ AP MLB:
