The answers to today's Connections, game #716, are… YELLOW: ROUND FLAT THINGS COASTER, FRISBEE, PANCAKE, RECORD
COASTER, FRISBEE, PANCAKE, RECORD GREEN: AIRPORT FEATURES CAROUSEL, FOOD COURT, GATE, LOUNGE
CAROUSEL, FOOD COURT, GATE, LOUNGE BLUE: GUITAR PLAYING TECHNIQUES BEND, PICK, SLIDE, STRUM
BEND, PICK, SLIDE, STRUM PURPLE: WHAT CHARACTERS WERE TRANSFORMED INTO IN 'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' BEAST, CANDELABRA, CLOCK, TEACUP My rating: Moderate
Moderate My score: 1 mistake
You could argue that a FRISBEE isn't strictly flat, unlike the other three ROUND FLAT THINGS, but it's close enough and this yellow was an easy spot, before I had to do some thinking.
My mistake came in putting together a group of fairground rides – SLIDE, CAROUSEL, TEACUP and BEAST. Of these, BEAST was the one that didn't feel right – so I began thinking of other things that it could mean and after dismissing Mr as the link landed on Beauty & The Beast and some of the other characters in the fairytale.
STRUM, SLIDE and PICK both felt like they had something to do with guitars but I took a risk with BEND, having completely overlooked the much more obvious AIRPORT FEATURES.
How did you do today? Let me know in the comments below. Yesterday's NYT Connections answers (Monday, May 26, game #715) YELLOW: ITEMS IN A LINEN CLOSET PILLOWCASE, SHEET, TOWEL, WASHCLOTH
PILLOWCASE, SHEET, TOWEL, WASHCLOTH GREEN: DIAMETRIC COUNTER, OPPOSITE, POLAR, REVERSE
COUNTER, OPPOSITE, POLAR, REVERSE BLUE: LINGERIE GARTER, HOSE, SLIP, TEDDY
GARTER, HOSE, SLIP, TEDDY PURPLE: CARD GAMES WITH FIRST LETTER CHANGED DIN, FRIDGE, GUMMY, JOKER
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite tough and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don't technically need to solve the final one, as you'll be able to answer that one by a process of elimination. What's more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little bit of breathing room.
It's a little more involved than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For instance, watch out for homophones and other word games that could disguise the answers.
It's playable for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Monday, August 4: Today's Clues And Answers

Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Sunday's: Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the start of a new week! I'm thrilled to be back with you for another Monday-Friday run of this here column. As you may know by now, I love to kick off the Monday editions of this column with a fun, upbeat song. Because who doesn't feel at least a bit better after a little Monday boogie? This is a sort of two-parter that lines up with today's recommendation at the end of the column, but this song is such an earworm all the same. 'Back on 74' by Jungle was one of the biggest viral hits of 2023, and I'm bringing it back for 2025: Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, August 4 are coming right up. How To Play Connections Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. What Are Today's Connections Hints? Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them. Today's 16 words are... And the hints for today's Connections groups are: One Word For Each Connections Group Need some extra help? Be warned: we're starting to get into spoiler territory. Let's take a look at one word for each group. Today's Connections word hints are… What Are Today's Connections Groups? Today's Connections groups are... What Are Today's Connections Answers? Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... Even though we had APPLE in the mix, I took a gamble with the greens and got it right first time. Nice. The bugs were next up after that for the yellows. I'll be honest, my first thought when I looked at the grid was that there might be a group of words that sounded like single letters, entirely because of YEW. But after I got the first two groups out of the way and said the remaining words out loud, the purples became obvious. They are DECAY/"DK," EASY/"EZ," GEO/"GO," and ZITI/"ZT." I didn't really get the blue connection, but (V for) VENDETTA should have been a giveaway. Can't say I'm a fan of that one! It's so tortured that even the category title looks like an algebra equation. In any case, that's a perfect game for me. It extends my overall streak to 157 wins. Here's my grid for today: 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday's game if you need them. P.S. I'm so very happy that Ren is back. His latest video is yet another fantastic piece of art. But it doesn't quite fit the upbeat vibe I usually go for on Mondays, so let's go with an older one from him (we'll get to the new one in a day or two). This one is a mashup of 'Back on 74' and 'Message in a Bottle' by The Police, with an added original rap verse and the help of a bass player and two terrific backing singers. Obviously, it's fantastic: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.
