‘Star Wars' Music Dominates The Billboard Charts

May 4 is internationally recognized as Star Wars Day, as the date is a play on the iconic phrase "May the force be with you," which is a hallmark saying of the hugely successful franchise. Each year, fans honor the vision of George Lucas vision by rewatching the many films — and, apparently, by returning to the music that accompanied them. This renewed interest is reflected on the Billboard charts this week, as several collections from the brand become hits again.
As Star Wars surges in popularity again, multiple albums have returned to various charts — and there's even a new arrival. John Williams: The Star Wars Trilogy debuts on two Billboard rankings this frame. The full-length, credited to Varujan Kojian and the Utah Symphony Orchestra, opens at No. 4 on both the Classical Albums and Classical Crossover Albums charts. It's the second-highest rising new title this frame, landing just behind Gems by Josh Groban, which leads both lists.
Several other projects from the Star Wars universe return to both tallies this frame. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back reappears at No. 11 on the Classical Crossover Albums list and No. 12 on the Classical Albums chart. Star Wars: A New Hope is only a few spaces further down, landing once again at No. 13 on the Classical Crossover Albums ranking and No. 16 on the all-encompassing Classical Albums roster.
In total, Star Wars music fills four spaces on both Classical Albums charts this frame. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith dips slightly from where it stood last time. That film — and its accompanying score — has returned to the spotlight following a theatrical re-release in celebration of its twentieth anniversary. While fans continue to support the score, there's more competition now as Star Wars becomes a trending topic all over again.
Except for the brand new arrival, all three albums are credited to both John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra. Star Wars Episode III also credits a group called London Voices. Though Williams doesn't earn a new win on the charts with the debut, his name remains front and center in the album title, as it's his music that fuels this lasting success.

Mark Hamill recently appeared on the 'Bullseye with Jesse Thorn' podcast (via IGN) to promote his latest movie, Mike Flanagan's 'The Life of Chuck,' and cleared up some of the confusion surrounding his thoughts on Rian Johnson's divisive 'Star Wars' movie 'The Last Jedi.' Hamill returned as Luke Skywalker in the film, although he was not the hero some fans remembered. This Luke was a miserable, hardened recluse living in self-imposed exile after his protege, Ben Solo, joined the dark side and became Kylo Ren. Luke blamed himself. In interviews after 'The Last Jedi' opened in theaters, Hamill was honest about not loving this direction Johnson took with his character. He told Comic Book at the time that he 'still hasn't accepted' what happened to Luke and opposed such a dark heel turn. But in the new podcast interview, Hamill stressed that Johnson made 'a great movie' with 'The Last Jedi,' adding: 'I'd love to clear this up. … Rian Johnson is one of the most gifted directors I've ever worked with.' 'But I kept saying to Rian, 'This would just make Luke double down even…' and he said, 'Well, your class at the Jedi Academy were wiped out.' I said, 'Rian, I saw entire planets wiped out! If anything, Luke doubles down and hardens his resolve in the face of adversity.' So that's all.' Hamill believed Luke would become even more of a hero and an advocate for the Jedi in the wake of Ben Solo's betrayal. In order to go in the complete opposite direction that Johnson scripted, Hamill needed to convince himself that Luke was possible of such darkness. 'I said, 'Can I make up my own backstory of why he is the way he is? I don't want to just say that I have bumped my head and I have brain damage,'' Hamill said. [Rian] said, 'Yeah, do whatever you want.' So I made up a much, much darker backstory that I thought could justify him being that way.' 'I thought, 'What could make someone give up a devotion to what is basically a religious entity, to give up being a Jedi?'' Hamill then explained. 'Well, the love of a woman. So he falls in love with a woman. He gives up being a Jedi. They have a child together. At some point the child, as a toddler, picks up an unattended lightsaber, pushes the button and is killed instantly. The wife is so full of grief, she kills herself. I thought, that would be. … Because I hear these horrible stories about these children who find unattended guns and wind up dead. That resonated with me so deeply. … But [Rian] didn't have the time to tell a backstory like that, I'm guessing. He just wanted a brief thing to explain it. And to me, it didn't justify it.' 'That said — and I told [Rian] this — despite the fact that I disagree with your choices for Luke, I'm going to do everything within my power to make your screenplay work as best as I can,' Hamill added. 'And the only thing unfortunate about that is, I've heard comments from fans who think that I somehow dislike Rian Johnson, and nothing could be further from the truth.' Luke died in 'The Last Jedi,' although Hamill continued with the 'Star Wars' franchise by appearing as a Force Ghost in 'The Rise of Skywalker' and then using de-aging technology to appear as a young Luke in the series 'The Mandalorian' and 'The Book of Boba Fett.' Hamill told Comic Book earlier this year he has no plans to return as Luke. 'I had my time,' Hamill said. Eminem's Timeless Classic Becomes A Top 10 Bestseller

These days, the rapper remains on the weekly rankings thanks solely to some of his decades-old compositions. As Americans continue to buy and stream some of the hip-hop superstar's classics, one track in particular reasserts itself as his most successful and becomes a proper bestseller yet again. "Lose Yourself" returns to a pair of Billboard rankings this frame, breaking back onto both the Rap Digital Song Sales and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales tallies. It reenters those lists at Nos. 8 and 14, respectively. It wouldn't be unusual for a musician as celebrated as Eminem to score one or two hits in the United States, even with decades-old tunes. But what is notable is that "Lose Yourself" remains a top 10 bestseller — albeit only on a genre-specific roster. "Lose Yourself" is approaching 500 weeks on both of the charts on which it currently appears. If it can hold on for another month on the Rap Digital Song Sales tally, it will hit that milestone. While it still has several dozen more frames to go on the broader R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales ranking, it seems likely that it will eventually make it to that landmark figure as well. Amazingly, despite the fact that "Lose Yourself" has spent nearly 500 spans on both charts, it has yet to reach No. 1 on either of them. Eminem's smash has stalled in the runner-up space on both sales lists, coming frustratingly close to adding to his growing roster of champions on more than one occasion. Eminem's Oscar-Winning Smash Eminem released "Lose Yourself" in October 2002. The song served as the lead single from the 8 Mile soundtrack. The tune was a huge commercial success, ruling the Hot 100 for 12 consecutive frames and dominating multiple other rankings around the world. In addition to becoming yet another hit for the rapper, "Lose Yourself" also won Eminem several Grammy Awards and even the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making him the first rapper to snag that prize.

‘Rust' crew settles lawsuit against film producers and Alec Baldwin in fatal shooting
A settlement has been reached in the civil lawsuit alleging negligence in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Western movie 'Rust', according to court documents released Friday. The lawsuit was brought by three 'Rust' crew members seeking compensation for emotional distress from producers of 'Rust,' including Alec Baldwin as co-producer and lead actor. The civil suit accused producers of failing to follow industry safety rules — allegations they denied.
