Not a drill: Aussie icon Nagi from RecipeTin Eats is hosting a lunch in Sydney soon

Time Out29-05-2025

Now, this is exciting. Nagi Maehashi – Aussie icon, author of two record-smashing cookbooks (Dinner and Tonight), and the brains behind a seriously banging sausage roll recipe – is teaming up with Plate It Forward's Shaun Christie-David for a super special one-off Sydney lunch. Held at soul-warming Ukrainian eatery Kyiv Social – winner of Time Out Sydney's Impact Award 2025 – this edition of Mum Cha will see Nagi, her mum Yumiko, and RecipeTin's head chef Jean-Baptiste 'JB' Alexandre join forces with Shaun and his mum Shiranie to serve up a delicious eight-course meal to hungry Sydneysiders (hi, that's us) that celebrates culture, generations and stories.
Guests will enjoy four shared dishes by Nagi, Yumiko and JB, and four from Shaun and Shiranie, plus a cocktail on arrival and free-flowing red and white wine. It's happening on Saturday, June 28 – kicking off from 1pm. And our favourite bit? Dozer, Nagi's beloved senior golden retriever, will also be making a special guest appearance.
A social enterprise, Plate It Forward employs, trains and supports people from marginalised backgrounds and those who have experienced adversity (including refugees from war), shining a spotlight on their stories through their venues, including Kyiv, Colombo Social, Kabul Social and Kolkata Social. And as well as creating tasty, bulletproof recipes, Nagi is also passionate about supporting people doing it tough – she's the founder of RecipeTin Meals, a not-for-profit food bank that has donated more than 300,000 meals to Sydneysiders in need. So this is a beautiful collab in our books.
Created by Shaun and Shiranie, Mum Cha is a monthly celebration of the women and mothers in life who inspire us – and a way to bring people together over love and a banging meal.
Tickets to Mum Cha with Nagi, Yumiko and JB, as well as Shaun and Shiranie, cost $150 per person. They go on sale at 4pm today (Thursday, May 29), Sydney time. You can snap yours up here.

Dancing With The Stars' first elimination: Aussie icon sent home after BRUTAL slate from judges: 'Seven weeks wasted'

Dancing With The Stars ' first elimination of the 2025 season has seen a beloved Aussie icon dance their last dance. On Sunday night, this year's rookie ballroom dancers took to the dance floor in a heated battle for a spot in next week's lineup. Susie O'Neill, lovingly known as Madame Butterfly, struggled to move past her discomfort with close contact, a hurdle that saw her foxtrot receive low scores. Despite the phenomenal performances across the board, one 2025 participant had to bid farewell to the dancefloor and that star was Olympic swimmer Susie, who scored bottom of the leader board with 15 points. The judges admired her growing confidence and praised some of her footwork, but straight-shooter Craig Revel Horwood was brutal in his criticism. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Seven weeks and seven hours a day wasted, I'd say' he said. Despite the criticism, Madame Butterfly left with her head held high, beaming with pride as she expressed her gratitude for not only learning how to dance, but how to hug. Up first on Sunday was 7NEWS presenter Michael Usher, who raised temperatures with a fiery paso doble. Despite 'missing a matador position' and appearing 'too square', the judges were impressed with his characterisation and cape work. Similarly to Susie, AFL star Trent Cotchin overcame his unease with close proximity as he took on the foxtrot, which he dedicated to his family. The midfielder made a few footstep mistakes but was hailed for his storytelling ability, flowing movements and clear improvement. 'Something just clicked for you this week, I am so impressed with that change, well done!' said Sharna Burgess of the footy star's progress. This week, boxer Harry Garside showed his softer side in a moving contemporary number. Brittany Hockley (pictured left) closed the show with a bang, offering a high-energy samba with big risks that paid off - and nabbed her number one spot on the leader board with 31 points While his vulnerability was praised, Mark Wilson thought he had played it 'emotionally safe', which saw Helen Richey chime in with a challenge. 'I said you might be the heavyweight in this competition. Don't you prove me wrong Harry.' TV star Rebecca Gibney was the picture of grace as she took to the floor with the Viennese waltz, sweetly choreographed to her wedding song. The Gold Logie winner was hailed for her natural elegance, regal form and innate class, but was encouraged to work on her control and transitions. However, it was Brittany Hockley who closed the show with a bang, offering a high-energy samba with big risks that paid off - and nabbed her number one spot on the leader board with 31 points. 'For all the other competitors so far, they need to watch what you have just done,' Mark commended her, with Sharna and Helen mimicking his sentiments. Craig likened the samba to a Violet Crumble, calling it 'pretty brittle', but praised Brittany's determination and effort.

Home and Away Tug star hasn't aged a day three decades later with lookalike son

Home and Away actor Tristan Bancks is best known for his role as Tug O'Neale on the popular Australian soap and, since leaving the show, has landed a string of impressive roles From its debut in 1989, Home and Away became a must-watch for soap fans With its gripping plotlines and the beautiful backdrop of Summer Bay, it's no wonder audiences continue to enjoy the Aussie soap after more than three decades. Over its impressive 36-year run, Home and Away has seen a host of stars grace its screens, including Tristan Bancks, who played the character Tug O'Neale. From 1992 to 1994, Tristan was a regular fixture on the soap, having been chosen from among 200 hopefuls for the role. As Tug, Tristan found himself at the heart of numerous high-profile storylines, tackling issues such as mental health and bullying. However, after two years, he decided to step away from the show to explore new opportunities. After leaving Home and Away, Tristan, now 50, relocated to London for a short time where he secured several presenting roles, including hosting the game show Don't Try This At Home. ‌ ‌ Upon his return to Australia, Tristan resumed his acting career, with roles in the short film Dust and the 2002 feature Beneath Clouds. He has also ventured into directing, with his short comedy Soar being showcased at both the London Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival, reports OK!. Tristan seemingly remains ever-youthful, and has carved out a successful career as an award-winning author, penning popular children's and young adult books such as Two Wolves, The Fall, and Detention. His latest work, Scar Town, hit the shelves recently, with Tristan attending a flurry of book launch events. With over 5,000 followers on Instagram, the ex-soap star frequently offers glimpses into his life as a writer, sharing moments from writing retreats, literary talks, and book festivals. Beyond his professional achievements, Tristan enjoys a private life with his partner, editorial and wedding photographer Amber Melody. The couple are proud parents to two sons and although he keeps much of his personal life under wraps, Tristan occasionally shares heartfelt posts about his family on Instagram. He posed with one of his sons for a picture on Instagram in September last year, saying: "First Father's Day with my eldest son living away in Melbourne. Missed him a lot but he's doing great things. And I did get to have lunch with my youngest son and his girlfriend and my mum and her husband. And my beautiful wife who I've been lucky enough to bring up our two fine boys with. Also, Lego!" ‌ And one Valentine's Day, he shared an affectionate post for Amber, referring to her as the "love of my life". His Instagram caption read: "Happy V Day to the love of my life, Amber Melody. [man and woman in love emoji] Great start to the day with brownie pain au chocolate and croissant French toast (breakfast of champions) at @bambam_bakehouse. :)." ‌ In another heartwarming post, Tristan uploaded a photo with his sons during a magical trip to Disneyland Paris, expressing that travelling with his family is his "favourite thing to do." His books have won and been shortlisted for many awards, including a Children's Book Council of Australia Honour Book, the Prime Minister's Literary Awards, and the YABBA children's choice book awards. Scar Town was named the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year for Younger Readers. But his talents don't stop there, as Tristan's website reports that "he is currently working with producers to develop a number of his books for the stage and screen."
