Broncos cop brutal double blow as two players sidelined for at least four weeks

The Brisbane Broncos have been hit with a double blow ahead of Ben Hunt's return with Blake Mozer and Corey Jensen both expected to miss at least four weeks after injury setbacks. After Mozer recently re-signed to stay at the Broncos for another two years, but has not featured under Michael Maguire in the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, it appears he will be battling to return before the end of the regular season having broken his jaw in the Queensland Cup game on the weekend. According to The Courier Mail, Mozer left the field for a HIA and didn't return.
Although it appears Mozer fractured his jaw during the incident and could spend between six to eight weeks out. Mozer had only recently returned for the Broncos' feeder team after suffering a shoulder injury in pre-season. Mozer is considered a future star at No.9, but has not been used by Maguire so far this season.
While Mozer is set for some time on the sideline, reports suggest so will Jensen. The forward was a late withdrawal from the Broncos side to face the Bulldogs last week. And it appears Maguire won't be able to call upon the front-rower after he recovers from Deep Vein Thrombosis. Jensen is set to miss at least four weeks after suffering from the blood clot, according to .

While it appears the Broncos won't be able to call on the rising star and veteran for a number of weeks, Maguire has named Hunt this weekend. The veteran recruit injured himself against the Rabbitohs and hasn't played since round 10.
The 35-year-old was playing five-eighth before his injury, but with Ezra Mam's return the veteran is expected to switch to dummy-half. Having played plenty of No.9 for Queensland in State of Origin, Hunt could add some more experience to the spine, before the utility comes on.
Billy Walters is expected to keep his position in the 17 after a strong few weeks. Kobe Hetherington was full of praise for Hunt ahead of his return.
"Everyone knows how good a player he is," Hetherington said. "He is in the leadership group for a reason and brings that leadership, and all us younger fellas get around him. He is such a good talker and is tough as well. We have seen what he has done at Origin playing that hooker role, so if he can bring that back here the boys will be cheering."
The Broncos are riding a wave of momentum after coming back from 18-0 down to defeat the Bulldogs last Thursday with a number if key players out due to injury and Origin. And Hetherington claimed the squad was feeling confident after the win.
"That is one of the best wins I have been a part of in my career," Hetherington said. "Our back was on the fence in the first half and Madge (coach Michael Maguire) brought us in and said 'boys, keep sticking with it'.
"In the first half I thought we defended well, and Madge said 'stay in it and we will get them the back end of the half'. We all believed. We had all those players out (due to Origin and injury) and everyone stood up. It was a good feeling."

Brandon Jones gives Broncos' rookie cornerback a glowing review

Denver Broncos rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron (2020-2024) barely missed overlapping with safety Brandon Jones (2016-2019) while playing for the Texas Longhorns, but the two defensive backs are now teammates in the NFL (in total, the Broncos have five former Longhorns on their roster). 'I definitely heard a lot about him," Jones said in June when asked about Barron playing at Texas. "I am kind of showing my age when he got here because I did not play with him. I heard a lot of good things. Once a Texan, always a Texan. We always have that underlying brotherhood. It kind of explained itself when he got here.' Jones (27) is an established veteran in Denver's secondary. Barron (23) will look to make his mark as a rookie this fall. He's certainly off to a good start. '[He's] super smart, I would say that is the first thing," Jones said of Barron. "Especially from a rookie. You always ask a lot of questions as a rookie, but he asks the right questions. [He's] very eager to learn, super athletic obviously. [He's] representing Texas well, have to throw that in there." Barron is a versatile defensive back who can line up in the slot, as an outside cornerback or even at safety. After being picked by the Broncos in the first round of this year's draft, Barron figures to serve as one of the team's top three cornerbacks in 2025. "He's been a great addition," Jones said. "He's kind of like a Swiss army knife, he can play anywhere. It gives the defense a lot of freedom.' Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Broncos roster: LB Alex Singleton (No. 49) hopes to bounce back from torn ACL

Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at seventh-year linebacker Alex Singleton, No. 49. Before the Broncos: Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Bozeman, Montana, via Montana State University, with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. From 2016-18, Singleton took his talents north of the border to the Canadian Football League, where he played 54 games for the Calgary Stampeders. While in Canada, Singleton had 311 tackles, four sacks, one interception, six forced fumbles and 17 special-teams tackles. A two-time CFL All-Star, Singleton won the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award award in 2017, and he helped the Stampeders win a Grey Cup championship in 2018. In 2019, Singleton signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he immediately began making an impact. From 2019-21, Singleton played in 42 games, with 19 starts. Singleton had 262 total tackles (158 solo, 104 assisted, nine tackles for loss), 2.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, five pass deflections and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. Broncos tenure: Singleton was signed by the Denver Broncos prior to the 2022 season. Like he did in Philadelphia, Singleton made a huge impact in the middle of the Denver defense. Singleton played in all 17 games, starting 12. Singleton proceeded to have a career-high in tackles, with 163 total tackles (101 solo, 62 assisted, six tackles for loss). He also had three pass deflections and one forced fumble in 2022. According to the Broncos, Singleton became the only NFL player since at least 1994 to have recorded multiple games of 20+ tackles in a single season during 2022. In 2023, Singleton again played in all 17 games, starting 16 games. Again, Singleton set a career-high in tackles, with 177 total tackles (106 solo, 71 assisted, six tackles for loss), four pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and 2.0 sacks. In 2023, Singleton recorded the most double-digit tackle games (13) in a single season by any NFL player since at least 1999. Prior to the 2024 season, Singleton signed a three-year contract worth $18 million. In 2024, Singleton was rewarded as a defensive captain, a leader in the middle of the field. Singleton would likely have had another big season, had he not suffered a tremendous setback in Week 3, when he tore his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Remarkably, Singleton played the rest of the game on the torn ligament. After successful surgery, Singleton looks to be healthy going into 2025, once again a key leader in the Broncos' defense. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Likely. Singleton, 31, posted great numbers for the Broncos several years in a row. Denver chose Singleton over former linebacker Josey Jewell after they each had 100+ tackles in a season. Singleton displayed signature toughness and tremendous leadership, being voted captain for the first time in his career in 2024. Assuming he can return to his pre-injury form, Singleton is poised to start for the Broncos in 2025. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X!
