Charlie Woods storms into Junior PGA contention with nine-birdie second round
A week removed from a missed cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur, the 16-year-old Woods fired a 6-under 66 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. He is currently solo fourth on the leaderboard at 7 under, six shots behind 2027 Auburn commit Lunden Esterline in the 72-hole event.
Playing his second round on the Kampen-Cosler Course, a Pete Dye design that hosted the 2008 NCAA Championship, Woods carded nine birdies. He had his round to 8 under after a birdie at the par-4 15th, but he proceeded to bogey the par-5 16th and par-3 17th holes before closing with par.

Woods' Junior Ryder Cup hopes hinge on a strong performance this week. Automatic spots on the six-player team that will compete ahead of this year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage will go to the Junior PGA's winner and runner-up. There is also one captain's pick, though that should go to world No. 26 amateur Luke Colton, provided Colton does not finish among the top two places (Colton was 3 under through 36 holes).
Colton was a semifinalist last week at Trinity Forest, where Woods shot 81-74 to miss the match-play cut at his second straight U.S. Junior.
Woods, a 2027 recruit who has yet to commit to a school, broke out this past May with a win at the AJGA's Team TaylorMade Invitational, which came against a field that included Colton, top-ranked Miles Russell and another top-50 amateur in Tyler Watts.

Hugh Freeze is happy about Auburn's secondary depth
The Auburn Tigers return plenty of experience to their secondary this season. Fall practice is underway at Auburn, and a lot of attention is on the 2025 edition of the Tigers. Auburn fans are hoping for a big year that results in the program making strides in the right direction. The Tigers have had four straight losing seasons, which is something the faithful are not accustomed to. While there are questions around this football team, a position that the Tigers do have plenty of experience and talent is in the secondary. Auburn returns Kayin Lee and Jay Crawford at the cornerback position while Champ Anthony also returns to the Tigers after playing well in 2024 before suffering a season-ending leg injury in the Tigers' SEC opener with Arkansas. Head coach Hugh Freeze is looking forward to having Anthony back. 'We might limit some of (Anthony's) reps, but it gives us some flexibility because some of those guys can play multiple positions', Freeze said of Anthony as camp opened this week. Auburn also returns key contributors to both safety positions with Kaleb Harris and Sylvester Smith. Both players gained valuable experience last season playing as freshmen. The Tigers also added some depth to the secondary with the transfer portal and the 2025 recruiting class. From the transfer portal they added Raion Strader (Miami-Ohio) and Rayshawn Pleasant (Tulane) at the corner back position. At safety, Auburn added Taye Seymore from Georgia Tech and signed safety Eric Winters out of Enterprise High School. It is clear the Tigers will have depth in the secondary this season. 'You're glad you have more depth where you're not somewhat feeling like there's a drop off, when you do rotate people, or if you do have an injury," Freeze said. "I think every team at this level would be excited to have the type of depth that we do." He also acknowledged that, despite the depth, they do need to figure out who plays where. 'Now we've got to figure out what their seat is on the bus. Who are the best nickels, and who are the best safeties, and who are the best corners," Freeze said. "I know we have increased our speed and our depth. So that's exciting to us, and now we've got to figure out exactly all the pieces of where they go.' Last season the Tigers ranked ninth in the SEC last season giving up 213 yards passing per game. The secondary will need help, and an improvement in their pass rushing ability will help. As good as the group is, if the front cannot create pressure the defensive backs will not be able to hold their coverage. KeAndre Lambert-Smith impresses in 2025 Hall of Fame Game in Chargers debut
Former Tiger, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, made big plays in Chargers debut Thursday night. The 2025 NFL Preseason got underway on Thursday night with the annual Hall of Fame Game played in Canton, Ohio Thursday night. A big standout in the game was Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith. The former Auburn Tigers pass catcher impressed anyone who watched him play last season on the plains. He was one of the few bright spots for a tough season for Auburn that ended with a 5-7 record. In his one season with Auburn, Lambert-Smith caught 50 passes for 981 yards and eight touchdowns. He led the team in catches and yards. Lambert-Smith was tied with Cam Coleman for team lead in touchdown receptions. When he arrived at Auburn he did so as the top wide receiver in the transfer portal after playing at Penn State for four seasons. His production over his career resulted in being drafted by the Chargers with the No. 158 pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Lambert-Smith did not wait to impress the Chargers or the national audience watching the game on Thursday night. In the Chargers 34-7 win over the Detroit Lions, Lambert-Smith caught two passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. On the second possession for the Chargers, he caught a deep pass near the sideline for 28 yards from quarterback Trey Lance. While that catch did not result in points for the Chargers, the second one did. With 1:51 remaining until halftime, Lance found Lambert-Smith on a slant for a 15-yard touchdown catch. According to Pro Football Focus, Lambert-Smith was the highest graded offensive player from the Hall of Fame Game at 90. On Thursday night, Chargers fans got a glimpse at what Auburn fans already knew about Lambert-Smith. He is a big time player that will make big time plays at the next level. Cameron Young extends lead to three as Round 2 concludes Saturday morning at Wyndham
Some talented golfers, including Austin Eckroat, Max Homa, Nicholas Dunlap, Adam Hadwin and Sahith Theegala, missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina and will not advance to the FedExCup Playoffs GREENSBORO, N.C. — Cameron Young capped off a bogey-free second round on Saturday morning for an 8-under 62, giving him a three-shot lead in the Wyndham Championship as the New York native goes for his first PGA Tour win and tries to get in the Ryder Cup conversation. Young knocked in a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-3 16th when he returned to complete the storm-delayed second round at Sedgefield Country Club. He got up-and-down for par after driving into the rough on the 17th and closed with a par. Young was at 15-under 125. He is widely considered the best player without a win on a major tour, having finished runner-up seven times, including a World Golf Championship and at The Open at St. Andrews. Defending champion Aaron Rai, who led Friday evening one shot behind, took double bogey on the 16th hole. He wound up four shots out of the lead. Mac Meissner, Joel Dahmen and Sungjae Im were three shots behind. The cut came at 3-under 137. This is the final tournament of the regular season that determines the 70 players who advance to the postseason. Among those who are left out of the lucrative FedExCup playoffs are Keith Mitchell, Max Homa and Sahith Theegala, who all missed the cut. Homa and Theegala were on the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup just 10 months ago. Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard are still in the mix, but just barely. The cut was looking at 4 under par at one point. Both finished on 3 under and will now have 36 holes to play well enough to try to move into the top 70 — Nicolai is at No. 71, Rasmus at No. 82. Adam Scott is No. 85 and made the cut with one shot to spare. The third round was scheduled for threesomes off both sides Saturday afternoon.
