Michelle Collins pockets six-figure payday as EastEnders return boosts earnings
Michelle Collins has revealed that her dramatic comeback as the iconic Cindy Beale in EastEnders has paid off not just creatively, but financially, with her personal company, It Worx Limited, seeing a major surge in earnings following her return to Albert Square.
The actress, 63, who founded the company in 1996 to manage income from her television work, saw its cash reserves jump from just £20,000 to nearly £200,000 in the year ending March 2024.
According to newly published Companies House records as seen by The Sun, she now faces a Corporation Tax bill of £69,694, suggesting her earnings from the period were roughly five times that amount.
Despite the financial success, Collins admitted she initially felt uncertain about reprising her role as Cindy after 25 years off-screen.
Speaking at the TRIC Awards at Grosvenor House in London, she said: 'I didn't know if people would be happy that she was back. I really didn't know, you have to take that risk! But I think she's gone down quite well.'
Since her shock return, following a twist that revealed Cindy had faked her death and lived under the alias Rose Sawyer in witness protection, Collins has thrown herself back into the soap's most outrageous storylines.
Now entangled in messy relationships and dramatic feuds, Cindy's latest arc includes an affair with her ex-husband George Knight's son, Junior.
Collins says audiences have embraced the character's villainous streak. 'I think people are liking her,' she said. 'People don't want to see nice Cindy. She was nice for a while, and they don't want to see nice Cindy - I promise you, they don't.
"Sometimes I'll pick up the scripts and I'll go, 'Oh no, you can't. Really? Having an affair with his son? No, it'll be fine, people love her.''
Michelle originally joined the cast in 1988, before returning in 1992 for a longer stint. Her 2023 return marked a major moment in soap history, with the twist that she had never actually died in prison as previously believed.
Outside of EastEnders, the 63-year-old is preparing to debut a one-woman show titled Motorhome Marilyn at the Edinburgh Festival this summer.
The play follows a Marilyn Monroe impersonator on the road, and Collins has been granted a month-long break from filming to take part.
While she's remained quiet about how Cindy will temporarily leave the Square, she hinted that details of her character's exit will be revealed soon.

Grand Slam finalist Danielle Collins reveals vile cameraman KISSED her & opens up on being called ‘b****' by sexist fans
TENNIS star Danielle Collins has opened up on her experience of dealing with vile sexism and misogyny in her career. The American, 31, has won four career titles and reached the final of the Australian Open Grand Slam. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 Danielle Collins has opened up on some of her vile experiences with 'weird men' around tennis Credit: EPA 4 The American revealed how one sick cameraman 'made out' with the side of her face Credit: Getty 4 Collins also revealed how she treats insulting language directed at her as 'a compliment' Credit: Getty But in a candid interview on the podcast, Reign with Josh Smith, Collins has spoken out about some of her previous experiences, including being labelled a "b****" by fans and being subjected to inappropriate behaviour from "weird men". The former world No7 has been outspoken on the subject of abuse women have received in the sport. She revealed how whenever people have seen her getting upset on the court, fans never truly know the full picture of what has happened. Collins says that whenever she voices an opinion on a situation, it is because she has reached "boiling point" after sitting on it for a "very long time". The Florida native explains: "And you know, a lot of the people that are watching sports and watching TV they only get to see a small clip of what takes place. "They see me getting upset with the cameraman. They don't see everything that led up to why I got upset... "It definitely seems like when you're a female, if I use my voice and I push back and I ask a question or I set a boundary or even if I don't set a boundary, and I just simply make a request for personal space it's like, how dare I, like I don't have the right to respond or I'm crazy." Collins highlights one example of when a cameraman "made out" with the side of her face after asking her for a hug. She explained: "I had a situation a bunch of years ago when I first got on tour and I was dealing with a cameraman that was very persistent. "And I remember I came off the court, I lost a long three set match, I'm kind of like cramping, I'm tired and all the things are happening. Moment Emma Raducanu clocks 'fixated' man in crowd & breaks down behind umpire's chair before he's 'escorted out' "And this guy goes, 'oh, Danielle, you know, I'm so sorry. Can I give you a hug?' And I, I look at my coach, I'm like, 'uh, sure.' "So I'm like, standing like this and he goes in to hug me and then all of a sudden he goes in to kiss me and I'm like, 'oh no, oh my gosh.' "And he literally starts making out with a side of my face." Collins adds that people often don't see behind the scenes interactions with "weird men" who show up at events before stalking them and following them to their hotels. British No1 Emma Raducanu was the victim of a terrifying stalking case which saw her burst into tears on court at the Dubai Tennis Championship in February. The 22-tear-old hid behind the umpire's chair as the "fixated man" was removed by security after she spotted him just two points into her game. Raducanu's former coach Roman Kelecic, claimed the man previously stalked her in Singapore, the UAE and Qatar and had even given her a letter and asked for a photo in a coffee shop the day before. He was handed a restraining order from Dubai police while his name was also circulated among tennis authorities before it was revealed in June that the sick man had applied for tickets to this year's Wimbledon. Collins spoke about stalking issues for tennis stars last year, saying it was something many people outside of the sport weren't even aware of, with the tennis pro telling The Telegraph how she doesn't really go places without security detail. But no matter how much these issues need highlighting, Collins will still be the victim of insults. However, Collins actually takes great pride in being insulted, believing that being called a "b****" is often directed at women she "loves and respects". Collins says: "When somebody says that, 'Danielle Collins is a b****.' I kind of just take it as a compliment because so many of the women that I love and respect have been labelled as a 'b****,' and they're a badass woman. "There are women that get s*** done. There are women that go after their dreams. There are women that are assertive, powerful, hardworking and they are people that I strive to be. "So I feel like being a b**** can actually be kind of like a good thing because it also means you're not afraid to back down when someone's being a jerk. "It means that you're not afraid to be yourself, and you're okay with not being liked and you're gonna be confident regardless of what other people think about you."

Shock Emmerdale exit as villain's disturbing plot against Kim Tate takes terrifying twist
EMMERDALE has aired a shock exit for villain Dr Crowley as his plot for Kim Tate took an unexpected twist. The doctor - who is played by actor James Hillier in the ITV soap - has been driven out of the village after trying to blackmail Joe into helping him steal money from millionaire Kim. 2 Kim was left seemingly helpless before turning the tables on him Credit: ITV 2 Crowley bit off more than he could chew by taking on Kim Credit: ITV He planned to have Joe drug her, and then transfer the money from her accounts to his before fleeing - but Kim had other ideas. However as Crowley thought he had the upper hand with a paralysed Kim forced to tell him her bank details, he really had no idea who he was dealing with. As he leaned in to try and hear what she was saying more clearly, Kim stabbed him with his own needle and revealed her own plan. While Joe had before been trying to find a way out of it - he did and realised that he could just tell Kim the truth and ignore Crowley's blackmail. He filled her in and she did what she did best and took matters into her own hands. With Shaun already well-aware of just how dangerous Kim could be, she made him realise that he should be on her side. And when he got Crowley into Home Farm, it was all at Kim's behest. Drugged on the bed, Kim interrogated Crowley before giving him a chilling warning. She told him: 'If you even try to mess with us again, they'll never find your body. Nothing personal, it's purely business.' Later, still shaken, Kim took Joe to task after he ensured Crowley and Shaun was out of their lives for good. Emmerdale villain returns to torture Joe Tate in grisly scenes 'Kim I am so sorry,' he told her. 'He drugged me, I was terrified. I've never been so helpless in my life. I would never have let him hurt you.' But Kim told him: 'I'm sorry Joe but I'm struggling to believe a single word you say anymore.' Darkest soap storylines Over the years the likes of EastEnders, Emmerdale and Coronation Street have all tried to try outdo each other with their outlandish plots in a bid to keep us tuning in each week. But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock... EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) - Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca's adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police. Emmerdale: Holly's drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) - In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale's first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose. Hollyoaks: Luke's rape (2000) - Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap's first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs - who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance. Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) - Just a mere mention of 'Richard Hillman' is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it's not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn't. You brought him into our lives and once again it's me who had to pay the price. The first man I met after Will. I let my guard down and look what happens. It took a long time for me to trust you and now we're back at square one.' 'This will never happen again,' said Joe, promising to rebuild their trust.
