Ross Kemp's wild love life - 'rollercoaster' marriage and wife who 'straightened' him out

Daily Mirror06-05-2025

Former EastEnders star Ross Kemp might be a well-known face on TV - but he prefers to keep his private life out of the spotlight. Here's everything we know about his love life
Ross Kemp is back on screens this week, researching his ancestors for the hit series, Who Do You Think You Are? But how much do you know about his family life at home? From his rollercoaster first marriage through to the arrival of his four children, we've taken a closer look at the EastEnders star's private life away from the cameras...
Rebekah Wade
Ross met his first wife, Rebekah Wade, at a golf tournament when she was deputy editor of News of the World and he was starring as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders. The couple got engaged in 1996, but in 1997 took a brief break 'due to work pressures'. They soon reunited and, in June 2002, they got married in Las Vegas.

They encountered a rocky relationship, and Rebekah later revealed that their marriage was a 'rollercoaster', with her admitting to having an affair. They separated in 2006 and divorced in March 2009. That same year, Rebekah married racehorse trainer Charlie Brooks.
Speaking about her split from Ross, she said: "I think we were both working incredibly long hours… in completely different industries. The whole relationship was a bit of a roller coaster. Sometimes it was really good, and sometimes it wasn't so. I think that's how he would describe it."
Renee O'Brien
In 2012, Ross married his second wife, Australian-born Renee O'Brien, and the couple remains happily married to this day. The family like to keep their personal life private, and little is known about Renee. But Ross has briefly spoken about his wife in the past.
While discussing his intense filming schedule, the former EastEnders actor revealed his guilt about leaving his family. He told Metro Online: "Guilt, I think that's part and parcel of it. But I think, my wife didn't really know me from my soap days […] So when we [he and Renee] first got together, she just thought I was some kind of grumpy old bald bloke like in a bar – and she's probably right about that today, I'm still a grumpy old bald bloke in a bar."
In an interview on the Plot Twist podcast in 2022, he went into more detail and explained why his marriage has lasted. "Renee's pretty practical, she's Australian, she's a lawyer, she's very straight. She'd never seen EastEnders. She had no idea I was Grant Mitchell or anything like that and she didn't really understand that I was doing documentaries," Ross said.

He also revealed how he misbehaved in the early days of their relationship, but Renee 'straightened him out'. "I'd just come back from Afghanistan when I first met her and I generally behaved quite badly the first four or five weeks," he admitted.
"I've changed now, obviously, but I used to go on a bit of a bender with some of the guys, and she sort of straightened me out. But she knows what I do and you know, there's a great saying, particularly used by mates of mine in the armed forces, which is 'quick goodbyes and long hellos'."

Children
Ross is a proud father of four. After his divorce from his first wife, Rebekah, he welcomed his first child, a boy, with his former partner and makeup artist, Nicole Coleman. He and Renee also share three children together; a son Leo, born in 2015, and twins Ava and Kitty, born in 2017.
Speaking to the Mail Online in 2019, Ross said: "I'm very happy I've got my children and wouldn't have it any other way. I could have done it about a decade earlier though, I should've done.
"I was old, I was in my 40s, I was quite selfish before, in terms of you put yourself first, you look at what's going to be best for you and that totally goes out the window when you have children, you put your children way in front of everything you do."

Emmerdale's Sarah Sugden star wants two major ITV soap legends to return

Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) is facing a difficult time in Emmerdale following a cervical cancer diagnosis. Already living with a condition called Fanconi anaemia, which could mean she'll have a shorter than average lifespan, Sarah has made the decision to have IVF so she can become a mother. She previously thought she was pregnant, but while his turned out to be a false alarm it left her realising that she desperately wants to be a mum before it's too late. She decided to look into having IVF, and it was at an appointment about the IVF that a possible problem was spotted. 'She's trying to stay positive, she thinks everything is going to work out. She's obviously dealt with cancer growing up, she's been through so much she's quite good at handling stuff like that as much as it hurts to hear. 'She takes the route of 'I'm going to focus on having this baby and the IVF,' so that's where she's at with her mental state. She just wants to have this baby and get the cancer out the way.' Tragically, earlier this week, she was told she can no longer carry a child. As Sarah prepared herself for the operation, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) arrived, ready to support her. The two characters ended up having a really moving conversation about their connection. Sarah called Charity strong, and said she's been a better mum to her than her actual mother Debbie, who now lives in Australia. The conversation quickly changed when the IVF was brought up. Sarah spotted the look on Charity's face, and realised that she still didn't think her plan was a good idea. The argument was not resolved, unfortunately, as Sarah was wheeled away to theatre in the middle of their clash. While she waited, Charity became consumed with guilt over the row, and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) of all people did his best to make her feel better. Moments later, Sarah's surgeon arrived to reveal some news. As Sarah woke up, Charity and Cain stood beside the bed as she was told a complication occurred during surgery. As a result of this and Sarah's Fanconi Anemia, she had to have a hysterectomy – and Sarah knew exactly what that meant. As a result of this and Sarah's Fanconi Anemia, she had to have a hysterectomy – and Sarah knew exactly what that meant. Having been at Emmerdale for eight years, Katie has reflected about her time growing up on the show. 'It's funny because when I came into the show, I was the kid on set,' she told us. 'I wouldn't get involved in all the adult conversations and now Emma [Atkins] is my best friend. She's a 50-year-old woman and is one of my bestest friends. 'I know we all say it's like a family, but it really is. If I ever need help with anything I've got someone to turn to. It's been nice. The Dingle WhatsApp group chat, that's always going off. It's called 12 Angry Dingles after that storyline with Lydia (Karen Blick). We're a really tight bunch and I adore them all.' Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? There are two Emmerdale legends that Katie would love to see back in the Dales, however, and that's Charley Webb and Kelvin Fletcher, who played Sarah's parents Debbie Dingle and Andy Sugden. Charley left the show in 2021. More Trending 'Funnily enough I never met Kelvin Fletcher,' Katie told us, as Kelvin was last seen in the show in 2016. 'Obviously it would be great if he came back and we got a chance to explore their relationship. And obviously Charley, she was my person here for so many years. She really took me under her wing when I joined the show so it would be so nice to work with them both. I'd like that.' View More » This article was originally published on 23rd May 2025. Shark attack at 'Ant and Dec beach' leaves teenager in serious condition

A shark attacked a boy at Cabarita Beach on Sunday and he is now in hospital with serious arm injuries A teenage boy has suffered serious injuries after being bitten by a suspected Great White shark at a beach in New South Wales regularly used by TV hosts Ant and Dec. Australian emergency services were called to Cabarita Beach, between Tweed Heads and Byron Bay, at 3.50pm on Sunday after the attack. ‌ Surfers and two off-duty paramedics rushed to the boy's aid, reportedly applying a tourniquet to help restrict the bleeding. ‌ The teen suffered injuries to his arms and hands and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a "serious but stable" condition. ITV hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, have regularly been spotted enjoying downtime at Cabarita Beach in Australia during the filming of " I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!". They were seen having lunch together at a local cafe and also have been pictured enjoying the beach with their families including regularly swimming there. In NSW, Australia, shark fatalities are rare but it is thought there have been three deaths since 2021. The recent attack comes just weeks after a 17-year-old girl was mauled to death by a shark while swimming at a popular tourist spot at Bribie Island, north of Brisbane. ‌ Emergency services had rushed to the scene, with victim Charlize Zmuda treated for life-threatening upper body injuries. Tragically, she later died. Her devastated family said after the incident that they wanted to focus on "incredible life she lived and not the awful way she died". They said in a statement: "Charlize was loved by many and was such a shining light who truly touched the lives of everyone she met." Local Chris Potter told the Courier Mail at the time of what he saw as the devastating scenes unfolded: "People originally thought she had just been caught in a rip. "It was shocking."

Home and Away Tug star hasn't aged a day three decades later with lookalike son

Home and Away actor Tristan Bancks is best known for his role as Tug O'Neale on the popular Australian soap and, since leaving the show, has landed a string of impressive roles From its debut in 1989, Home and Away became a must-watch for soap fans With its gripping plotlines and the beautiful backdrop of Summer Bay, it's no wonder audiences continue to enjoy the Aussie soap after more than three decades. Over its impressive 36-year run, Home and Away has seen a host of stars grace its screens, including Tristan Bancks, who played the character Tug O'Neale. From 1992 to 1994, Tristan was a regular fixture on the soap, having been chosen from among 200 hopefuls for the role. As Tug, Tristan found himself at the heart of numerous high-profile storylines, tackling issues such as mental health and bullying. However, after two years, he decided to step away from the show to explore new opportunities. After leaving Home and Away, Tristan, now 50, relocated to London for a short time where he secured several presenting roles, including hosting the game show Don't Try This At Home. ‌ ‌ Upon his return to Australia, Tristan resumed his acting career, with roles in the short film Dust and the 2002 feature Beneath Clouds. He has also ventured into directing, with his short comedy Soar being showcased at both the London Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival, reports OK!. Tristan seemingly remains ever-youthful, and has carved out a successful career as an award-winning author, penning popular children's and young adult books such as Two Wolves, The Fall, and Detention. His latest work, Scar Town, hit the shelves recently, with Tristan attending a flurry of book launch events. With over 5,000 followers on Instagram, the ex-soap star frequently offers glimpses into his life as a writer, sharing moments from writing retreats, literary talks, and book festivals. Beyond his professional achievements, Tristan enjoys a private life with his partner, editorial and wedding photographer Amber Melody. The couple are proud parents to two sons and although he keeps much of his personal life under wraps, Tristan occasionally shares heartfelt posts about his family on Instagram. He posed with one of his sons for a picture on Instagram in September last year, saying: "First Father's Day with my eldest son living away in Melbourne. Missed him a lot but he's doing great things. And I did get to have lunch with my youngest son and his girlfriend and my mum and her husband. And my beautiful wife who I've been lucky enough to bring up our two fine boys with. Also, Lego!" ‌ And one Valentine's Day, he shared an affectionate post for Amber, referring to her as the "love of my life". His Instagram caption read: "Happy V Day to the love of my life, Amber Melody. [man and woman in love emoji] Great start to the day with brownie pain au chocolate and croissant French toast (breakfast of champions) at @bambam_bakehouse. :)." ‌ In another heartwarming post, Tristan uploaded a photo with his sons during a magical trip to Disneyland Paris, expressing that travelling with his family is his "favourite thing to do." His books have won and been shortlisted for many awards, including a Children's Book Council of Australia Honour Book, the Prime Minister's Literary Awards, and the YABBA children's choice book awards. Scar Town was named the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year for Younger Readers. But his talents don't stop there, as Tristan's website reports that "he is currently working with producers to develop a number of his books for the stage and screen."
