Stephen Holt's lone field goal lifts Ginebra to 18-point comeback vs. SMB in semis
The veteran guard buried a clutch triple — his first and lone field goal of the match — to give the Gin Kings a 70-69 lead late in the fourth after being down by as much as 18 points in the first half.
CJ Perez then continued his brilliance by completing a layup to regain a San Miguel lead, before Troy Rosario calmly sank a pair of free throws for another one-point Ginebra lead, 72-71, with 1:21 left in the game.
San Miguel had an opportunity to make another desperate comeback after Jamie Malonzo missed two charities but Perez could not secure the rebound.
Holt then sealed it with a split from the stripe as Ginebra drew first blood in the best-of-seven series.
"We saw that June Mar [Fajardo] was getting treatment on the sidelines, we took advantage of the time that he was absent on the floor to get back in the game," Ginebra head coach Tim Cone said.
"When he's on the floor, it's really tough and the good news is we just battled tonight. We didn't play great, we didn't shoot great, we didn't really defend that great."
Japeth Aguilar was also huge for Ginebra, scoring seven points as part of a 15-5 run that allowed Ginebra to turn a 55-41 deficit to just 60-56 advantage heading to the payoff period.
The seasoned big man then came up big early in the fourth, knocking down two layups to further cut the gap to 69-67 before Holt took over to seal the win.
Aguilar top-scored with 18 points alongside nine rebounds, two assists, and a block while Scottie Thompson and Malonzo chipped in 16 and 14 markers apiece.
Holt, who was limited to 1-of-6 from the field, finished with four important points together with seven rebounds, and four dimes.

There is no time off for June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, and Calvin Oftana as the veterans join Gilas Pilipinas shortly after a grueling PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup finals series between San Miguel and TNT. Fajardo and Perez of the Beermen and Tropang 5G sniper Oftana are shifting their full attention to national team duties with Gilas Pilipinas' 2025 FIBA Asia Cup preparations already underway. The trio is coming off an exhausting All-Filipino finals duel. Fajardo and Perez both played crucial roles in the Beermen's title run, which allowed the franchise to capture its 30th overall title and 11th in the All-Filipino edition. The Beermen also completed their redemption arc following a rare playoff absence in the Commissioner's Cup. Oftana was also huge for an injury-hit TNT, which missed key players Jayson Castro, Rey Nambatac, Poy Erram, and Simon Enciso due to different injuries. Still, Perez and Oftana are not thinking about the fatigue as they look to bolster Gilas Pilipinas in the continental tournament. "'Di mo maiisip 'yung pagod pag nanalo ka eh. Gilas will take on Chinese Taipei on August 6 before slugging it out against New Zealand and Iraq on August 7 and 9, respectively. PBA: Chot Reyes says TNT has nothing to be ashamed of even as Grand Slam quest falls short
The TNT Tropang 5G's Grand Slam hopes may have slipped away, but for head coach Chot Reyes, the journey was nothing short of commendable. The multi-titled tactician praised his players for enduring a grueling PBA season, one that saw them capture the Governors' Cup and Commissioner's Cup before falling short in the season-ending Philippine Cup against San Miguel. "So, so proud of this team. I think our chairman MVP put it best, he said, 'Our heads bowed in sorrow but not in shame,'' Reyes said following their 107-96 loss in Game 6 on Friday. Still, they kept up with the Beermen, drawing first blood with a slim 99-96 win in Game 1. They, however, lost the next three games before mounting a huge fight in Game 5 to extend their life and drag San Miguel to a Game 6. But San Miguel proved too much for the undermanned Tropang 5G, as the Beermen made sure to close out the series and deny TNT any chance at a comeback. Reyes, though, stressed there were no regrets despite missing out on the historic Grand Slam. "I have absolutely no regrets. Like I said, when we started the series, I never coached for the Grand Slam. I'd rather almost have it than not get there. 'Unexpected' Finals MVP award just a bonus for Jericho Cruz

His name has been involved in a post-game fuss back in Game 3 of the finals where he was allegedly 'showboating' in which he denied. But more than that, Cruz has been one of the consistent players for the Beermen for the finals series as he finished with 13.83 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.33 assists per game to help San Miguel win the All-Filipino crown. With his strong showing in the series, Cruz was named as the Most Valuable Player of the finals which is the first in his career. For him, it was an unexpected one and was just cherry on top of the championship. "Yung championship na 'to, sobrang sarap kasi kakabalik lang ni Coach Leo [Austria]. Nanalo rin ako ng award which is bonus lang naman. 'Di ko maisip, 'di ko maipinta ang words na dapat sabihin ko ngayon," Cruz said in the post-game conference. "'Di ko in-expect pero binigay sa akin kaya maraming salamat," he said in a separate interview. He also clarified that there is no bad blood with him and TNT officials such as manager Jojo Lastimosa. "Shoutout pa rin sa Talk 'N Text kasi hard fought series. Shout out din kay Coach Jolas, alam niya naman na mahal ko 'yan, and Coach Chot [Reyes]... At the end of the day, it's just basketball. Tapos na 'yun, move on na and prepare for the next conference," he said. After a grueling series, Cruz is also expected to join Guam in the FIBA Asia Cup. However, he revealed having some knee issues and will still determine if he will join the tournament.
