Boy, 15, arrested after being 'seen with gun' in Liverpool
Police were called to Merthyr Grove, Childwall, shortly after 3:05pm on Thursday 5 June following reports of a suspicious item.
Officers found and arrested the teenager around nearly 30 minutes later on Chelwood Avenue. He was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm and has been taken into custody for questioning.
Merseyside Police confirmed there is no indication the item was used to threaten or harm anyone. The teenager is believed to have travelled from Inchcape Road before being stopped by officers.
A significant police presence was seen in the area, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries and searches using sniffer dogs.
Police dogs were spotted combing through grass, trees, and front gardens along Bowring Park Road, and officers also searched areas near the Greystone Footbridge over the M62.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said no weapon had yet been recovered, and a full forensic examination of the scene is underway. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses as part of the investigation.
Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: 'Merseyside Police investigates all firearms-related reports thoroughly and will pursue anyone involved in carrying or using weapons.
'We are grateful to members of the public who reported this incident, allowing us to make a swift arrest. Officers remain in the area conducting extensive enquiries.
'We've worked hard to reduce the number of firearms on our streets and will continue to use all resources available to keep Merseyside safe.'

The horror unfolded at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show, near Southampton, in Hampshire, at 10.53pm on Saturday. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up Paramedics rushed the girl to hospital with head injuries after her hair reportedly became stuck in one of the rides. Fairgoer Emma Perry, who was there with her daughter, described the "traumatic" scenes. She told the DailyEcho: "The girl was on the oscillating floor in the Fun House when she slipped, fell backwards and her hair got caught in the rollers on the floor. 'Her friend came off the ride and said she was bleeding, so I offered my services as a first aider. 'When I got up there, I saw that three quarters of the girl's scalp had been ripped off in what we call a degloving incident." Emma claimed the teen was taken away on a stretcher, while fire crews had to cut a section of the ride away. Thee 51-year-old recalled the youngster was "screaming" and "very distressed". Another bystander who helped the teen told the BBC: "One of the girl's friends came down and said how serious it was and some of us offered assistance. "It's very shocking it could happen on a fairground ride that young children go on. This must never happen again." Charles Cole, who runs the event, dubbed it a "freak accident" that was under investigation. He told the Echo: "Nobody wants to hurt anyone, and we are a family business. Last night was very upsetting, especially for the man who owns the ride. "Safety is our priority, and we sympathise with the girl and her parents." Cllr David Harrison said he is "shocked and saddened" by the incident. He added: "I am sure it will be properly investigated and any necessary action taken. "My thoughts are with the injured person, family and friends." A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson said the incident was "local authority enforced and with Hampshire police". Ross's home was raided and police discovered a drawing marked "Project Payback". A phone and tablet device were also examined which included the voice message about the 2001 Twin Towers atrocity and him discussing with others "murdering all the people who wronged you". Ross appeared in the dock this week at the High Court in Glasgow. He pled guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner which included sending the concerning messages and voice notes on Snapchat and Facebook causing an explosion, filming it and putting the footage on social media between June 25 and July 31 2024. He had a not guilty plea to a charge under the Terrorism Act accepted. Ross was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date. A Facebook friend of Ross had spotted the explosion video in late July 2024. He showed it to a young woman who was so "alarmed" she contacted police. Ross was held that day after being spotted in Methil. Detectives - along with Counter Terrorism officers - searched his home in the town. Inside a desk were various items including a roll of wire, mobile phone batteries, nails, screws and a watch. Mr Farrell: "He made reference to social media corrupting his decisions." Ross was asked about his interest in Kaczynski - captured in 1996 - and said he was "apparently some kind of mail bomber" that he had learned more about by going down a "rabbit hole" online. Ross went on to insist that he himself was "not a terrorist" as he had "made peace with everything in his life". But, police found a series of concerning messages during checks of his phone and black tablet. In late June 2024, he wrote to 15 users on Facebook Messenger: "Here guys, I am just here to inform you that the only thing stopping you from murdering all of the people who wronged you is just a box. "That is only if you cannot do it correctly and make sure enough evidence is gone so that the charges do not stick." He referred to "instructions on how to make a pipe bomb" adding: "Hope this comes in handy for you one day x". In messages on the day of the River Leven explosion, a social media contact called Ross "a human". Mr Farrell then told the court of a Snapchat conversation with a friend shortly before. Ross stated at one stage: "I am going to make 9/11 look like an episode of the Teletubbies, f*** sake." He then backtracked again, claiming it was "satire comedy" and that he was "only joking". The friend replied: "F**k Islam, f**k them all." During further rants, Ross said he had been let down by the "justice system" moaning he had been treated differently because he is a man. In messages to another contact, he said: "I have realised that I simply cannot allow what is happening to humanity and our world to continue. "I can and will have an impact on preventing the worst from happening xx." The court heard there were also photos, videos and sketches of the "Unabomber" on the devices as well as images of a pipe bomb and firearms together with "various other clips which suggest violence". Lord Colbeck deferred sentencing for reports.
