Murder arrest after man's body found in Everton area of Liverpool

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a property in Liverpool, police have Police said officers were called to Thirlmere Road in the Everton area of the city at about 09:20 BST following the discovery of a man's death is being treated as "unexplained" and efforts are being made to formally identify him, said a force said a 60-year-old man from Everton was being held in custody and would be questioned. Det Insp Mike Fletcher said: "We are in the very early stages of our investigation and are carrying out inquiries to establish the circumstances of the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained."We are determined to find out what happened and would appeal to anyone who has any information to please get in touch."An investigation is ongoing and officers remain in the area to carry out house-to-house and CCTV inquiries." Boy, 15, arrested after being 'seen with gun' in Liverpool

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a member of the public reported seeing what they believed was a gun in his pocket. Police were called to Merthyr Grove, Childwall, shortly after 3:05pm on Thursday 5 June following reports of a suspicious item. Officers found and arrested the teenager around nearly 30 minutes later on Chelwood Avenue. He was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm and has been taken into custody for questioning. Merseyside Police confirmed there is no indication the item was used to threaten or harm anyone. The teenager is believed to have travelled from Inchcape Road before being stopped by officers. A significant police presence was seen in the area, including officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries and searches using sniffer dogs. Police dogs were spotted combing through grass, trees, and front gardens along Bowring Park Road, and officers also searched areas near the Greystone Footbridge over the M62. In a statement, Merseyside Police said no weapon had yet been recovered, and a full forensic examination of the scene is underway. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses as part of the investigation. Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: 'Merseyside Police investigates all firearms-related reports thoroughly and will pursue anyone involved in carrying or using weapons. 'We are grateful to members of the public who reported this incident, allowing us to make a swift arrest. Officers remain in the area conducting extensive enquiries. 'We've worked hard to reduce the number of firearms on our streets and will continue to use all resources available to keep Merseyside safe.' A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after reports of someone carrying what was believed to be a firearm in their pocket in Liverpool. Members of the public contacted officers following the incident in Merthyr Grove, Childwall, at about 15:00 BST, Merseyside Police said. There was no suggestion the item was used to threaten or harm anyone, the force added. The teenager, from Childwall, was arrested in nearby in Chelwood Avenue on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate. Detectives are speaking to potential witnesses and analysing CCTV from the area. A man has been shot in the buttock in a drive-by shooting, police have said. Officers were called to Fountains Road in Walton, Liverpool, just after 21:00 GMT on Friday but the victim had already left the scene and attended hospital. Officers said they believed the driver of a car had pulled up alongside him before a passenger in the back of the car opened a door and fired a gun. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, Merseyside Police said. The force has appealed for help in identifying the driver and two passengers in a dark car used in the attack. Det Insp Mike Fletcher added: "Any information provided will be acted upon. Help us to put the person responsible for firing the gun where he belongs - behind bars." He said more officers would be on patrol "to reassure the local community", while investigators carry out forensic examinations and house-to-house inquiries.
